Abstract

In a process in which yarn passes through two operations-for example extruding and cold drawing-in succession, the yarn can be temporarily stored between the two operations by being packed in an enclosed zone by a fluid which is chemically inert towards and without plasticizing effect on the material of the yarn. The zone may be formed by a perforated or fluid permeable cylinder or parallelepipedal box having at the entry end a nozzle to inject the yarn thereinto, and possibly at the exit end a surface-for example a conveyer belt-on or over which the accumulated yarn may pass. The fluid may be air or steam and the yarn may be composed of viscose, cellulosic, polyamide, polyester, or acrylic filaments.
