Abstract

Intaglio printing apparatus comprises a printing plate 2 having a plurality of grooves 5 on its rear face communicating via holes with an engraving (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), on its front face, a frame 1 containing a plunger 6, and a rubber sealing member 15 and an ink sachet 12 located within the frame 1 between the plunger and the plate 2. A renewable pack consisting of sheets 10 of nylon fabric and layers of felt 11 is positioned above the plate 2 and supports a frame 13 having teeth 14 which puncture the metal foil sachet when pressure is applied to the plunger 6. The apparatus together with a sheet of paper is placed in a press. The member 15 is compressed and ink escaping from the sachet is absorbed by the felt and fabric which is forced into the grooves 5. When the pressure is released, unused ink is held by suction in the fabric and felt.
