Improvements introduced in the subject of the Main Patent No. 329,469 filed July 23, 1966, for "A Process for Preparing Linear Olefins" having a number average molecular weight of about 70 to 300, comprising polymerizing a gas containing ethylene in presence of a substantially soluble catalyst consisting of the reaction product of a halide of a transition metal selected from the group comprising X4Ti, TiX3OR ', TiX3OOCR', where X is selected from the group consisting of chlorine and bromine and R 'is selected of the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, aralkyl and cycloalkyl, with an aluminum alkyl compound such that the final formula of the aluminum alkyl compound is AlRnX3-n, wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aralkyl and cycloalkyl , X is selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine and iodine, and n is less than 1, in a diluent selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbon s aliphatic and naphthenic and their halogenated analogues, at a temperature of less than 75º C and a pressure of more than 3.5 kg/cm2 absolute, in which the molar ratio of ethylene to the reaction product is greater than 0.8, and the reaction product comprising at least 90 mol% of linear olefins.
