Abstract

A combined water inlet and powder dispenser for a washing machine comprises a powder receptacle 4 and a water supply hose 8 arranged to discharge water into a chamber 18 to flush powder from the receptacle. If the receptacle outlet becomes blocked water flows over ribs 16 defining the chamber and to the machine via outlet 2. If outlet 2 is blocked water is discharged from the overflow 3. Several receptacles or a compartmented receptacle may be provided.
