Abstract

Process for preparing a chemical nickel-plating aqueous bath particularly suitable for use in the chemical nickel plating of metal surfaces formed substantially of magnesium, characterized in that the bath is formed so as to comprise nickel ions, hypophosphite ions, a complexing agent in a sufficient amount to form complexes with all nickel ions, fluoride ions in the range of 0.10 to 0.40 moles per liter, sufficient hydroxyl ions to give a ph in the range of about 7.0 to 9.0 and a buffer system comprising alkali metal cations and boron oxide anions and equivalent to an addition of alkali metal tetraborate in the range of 0.5 to 0.20 moles per liter.
