Abstract

In a process for the oxidation of cyclohexane with molecular oxygen the unreacted cyclohexane is separated from the products, washed with water, separated and recycled to the oxidation stage. The oxygenated products are fractionated and cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol recovered, or further oxidized to adipic acid, or dehydrogenated to phenol. The water extraction of the cyclohexane may be by rapid agitation or in a continuous countercurrent process. Specification 986,932 is referred to.
