Abstract

A process for crimping the skirt portion of a thin cap 3 below the lower edge of a ring portion 2 provided on the neck of a bottle. The crimping is carried out by a roller which is provided with a shoulder 8 which prevents the crimping of the skirt immediately below the lower edge of the ring portion and thus prevents the skirt cracking or breaking in the transition region between the portion which covers the ring portion and the crimped region of the skirt.
