Abstract
Un procedimiento para la reducción de óxidos de hierro a un estado inferior de oxidación en fase sólida a temperatura incrementada con monóxido de carbono en presencia de combustible carbonoso sólido y un fundente, caracterizado porque una mezcla, consistente en partículas de mineral de hierro oxidado de un tamaño de grano de 6 mm. por lo menos, combustible carbonoso sólido en un tamaño de grano de 1 mm. por lo menos, en la cual el contenido de carbono es mayor que el que teóricamente es necesario para la reducción completo del mineral de hierro, estando presente el fundente en una proporción de por lo menos 4% en peso del mineral cargado, se lleva a reacción con monóxido de carbono en una zona de reacción que para alimentar al menos una parte del calor necesario para el mantenimiento de la reacción en mantenida a una temperatura prácticamente uniforme en todas sus partes mediante fuentes exteriores de calor.
