The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0912131/IV (b)/1> (wherein R1 is a phenyl, 2-thienyl, cyclohexyl, halophenyl, lower alkyl-phenyl or lower alkoxy-phenyl, R2 is phenyl, cyclohexyl, 2-thienyl or cyclopentyl, R4, R5, R6 and R7 are hydrogen or alkyl, X and Z are straight or branched lower-alkylene groups having at least 2 carbon atoms in a straight chain between the nitrogen and the ester group, and A is hydroxy, halogen or an acyloxy group derived from benzoic acid, a phenylalkanoic acid of at most 8 carbon atoms or from a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid, the word "lower" referring to groups containing up to 6 carbon atoms) and acid-addition salts thereof and their preparation by reacting the appropriate di-hydroxyalkyl-piperazine either with a compound of the formula <FORM:0912131/IV (b)/2> (wherein A is a halogen or an acyloxy group and B is a reactive halogen) and, when required, hydrolysing A to form the dihydroxy-derivative, or with a compound of the formula <FORM:0912131/IV (b)/3> (wherein R3 is a hydrocarbon group).
