Abstract
Improvements in the combination of gear mechanisms in or for a transmission system for motor vehicles of the class in which the force of the machine is transmitted to the rear and front road wheels and in which a differential mechanism is interposed between the respective drive transmissions to the rear road wheels and the front road wheels, the combination including a reversing mechanism and being adapted to drive an input component of the differential mechanism in the forward or reverse direction, characterized by a freewheel device of a direction comprising a gear member connected to an output component of the differential and an overdrive member driven from a component of the gear mechanism combination in the input wing of the reversing mechanism so as to be unaffected by a gear thereof, being the arrangement such that in both forward and reverse drives the member Overdrive wheels relative to the movable member in the direction of freewheel movement, and because if the movable member is driven to outperform the overdrive member, the two members will lock together to stop the differential action.
