EL MANTENIMIENTO REMOTO DE UNA CENTRALITA TELEFONICA PRIVADA (N) CONECTADA A UNA CENTRAL DE CONMUTACION PUBLICA (VST) MEDIANTE UN EQUIPO DE ATENCION (SPC), CONECTADO TAMBIEN A LA CENTRAL DE CONMUTACION PUBLICA (VST), SOLO ES POSIBLE CUANDO TIENE LUGAR UN INTERCAMBIO REGULAR DE INFORMACION ENTRE LA CENTRALITA TELEFONICA PRIVADA (N) Y UN TERMINAL MAESTRO (LS). EN EL CURSO DE ESTE INTERCAMBIO DE INFORMACION, EL TERMINAL MAESTRO (LS) TRANSMITE A LA CENTRALITA TELEFONICA PRIVADA (N) SU PROPIO NUMERO TELEFONICO, CON AYUDA DEL CUAL SE ESTABLECE UN ENLACE NORMALIZADO CON EL TERMINAL MAESTRO (LS), QUE SIEMPRE ESTA CONECTADO A LA CENTRAL DE CONMUTACION PUBLICA (VST). SI EL NUMERO TELEFONICO MENCIONADO DEJA DE TRANSMITIRSE A LA CENTRALITA TELEFONICA PRIVADA (N), ESTA DEJA DE ESTAR EN SITUACION DE ESTABLECER UN ENLACE NORMALIZADO CON EL TERMINAL MAESTRO (LS). ENTONCES LA CENTRALITA TELEFONICA PRIVADA (N) SE BLOQUEA FRENTE AL MANTENIMIENTO REMOTO QUE PODRIA EFECTUARSE DESDE UN EQUIPO DE ATENCION (SPC).
