Abstract

A pipe connector connects first and second pipe ends A,B, one pipe end having a circumferential groove 11 on its extemal surface spaced from the end of said pipe, the connector having a body 1 which screws into the other pipe and a nut 5 which engages therewith and presses in a ductile ring 4, which may be separate or part of the body 1, to force part of the ring into the pipe groove 11. Friction on the pipe and thus easier tightening and greater pressure to be applied to force the ductile ring into the groove 11 is provided by pressure projections on an internal surface of nut 5 and/or on the ring 4. Where the ring 4 is separate from the body 1, projections may be provided in the latter. The ring 1 may comprise two parts, or be part or all axially split for reducing its circumference as it is tightened. Also disclosed are tools for making the groove on the pipe end.
