Abstract
Un método para calentar o fundir una carga de material en un horno (1) de fuego directo, que comprende: A) introducir dicha carga en dicho horno para exponer dicha carga a calor radiante desde un quemador (2; 31; 34; 37; 40) de fuego directo colocado encima de dicha carga; B) alimentar combustible y oxidante en el horno desde dicho quemador de fuego directo a una velocidad media en masa no superior a 15, 2 m/s (50 pies por segundo) y quemar el combustible y el oxidante dentro del horno para generar calor y para producir gases de combustión; y C) introducir un gas (4; 32; 35; 38; 41) próximo a la carga en el horno entre dicho quemador de fuego directo y dicha carga en un punto situado al menos a 50 % de la distancia vertical del quemador a la carga a una velocidad no superior a 15, 2 m/s (50 pies por segundo), en donde dicho gas próximo a la carga tiene una densidad superior a la de dicho combustible y dicho oxidante para crear un estrato atmosférico próximo a la carga que contiene una cantidad sustancialmente reducida de dichos gases de combustión, exponer por ello dicha carga a una atmósfera de horno con propiedades oxidantes que son diferentes de las que existen en ausencia de dicho gas próximo a la carga, y hacer salir los gases de combustión del horno por un tubo (5; 33; 36; 39; 42) de escape ubicado en o cerca del techo del horno.
