EL POLIURETANO ES EL PRODUCTO DE REACCION DEL AGUA Y UN PREPOLIMERO DE POLIURETANO TERMINADO POR UN ISOCIANATO. EL PREPOLIMERO DE POLIURETANO ES EL PRODUCTO DE REACCION DE UN COMPONENTE POLIOL Y UN COMPONENTE DIISOCIANATO, INCLUYENDO EL COMPONENTE POLIOL: UN POLIOL POLIESTER SULFONADO, UN ACIDO HIDROXICARBOXILICO DE FORMULA (HO) SUB,X}R(COOH) SUB,Y} DONDE (R) REPRESENTA UN RADICAL HIDROCARBURO LINEAL O RAMIFICADO QUE CONTIENE ENTRE 1 Y 12 ATOMOS DE CARBONO, Y X E Y REPRESENTAN VALORES ENTRE 1 Y 3, Y OPCIONALMENTE, UN DIOL ALIFATICO DE BAJO PESO MOLECULAR CON UN PESO MOLECULAR DE ENTRE 60 Y 400, UN POLIOL NO SULFONADO, Y SELECCIONANDOSE EL COMPONENTE DIISOCIANATO DE ENTRE EL GRUPO QUE CONSISTE EN DIISOCIANATOS AROMATICOS, DIISOCIANATO DE ISOFORONA, DIISOCIANATO DE HEXAMETILENO, Y MEZCLAS DE ESTOS.
