LA INVENCION SE REFIERE A UN PROCESO PARA LA PREPARACION DE MALQUILFENOLES, PARTICULARMENTE DE 3-ETILFENOL, A PARTIR DE UNA MEZCLA DE ISOMEROS DE ACIDO ALQUILBENCENOSULFONICO MEDIANTE LA DESULFONACION SELECTIVA, LA ELIMINACION DEL AQUILBENCENO FORMADO Y LA FUSION CAUSTICA. EN LA INVENCION LA DESULFONACION SE REALIZA MEDIANTE LA ADICION DE VAPOR A LA MEZCLA DE ACIDO SULFONICO CON UN EXCESO EN RELACION CON LA CANTIDAD DE AGUA EVAPORABLE, MANTENIENDO SIMULTANEAMENTE LA TEMPERATURA DE LA MEZCLA POR ENCIMA DE 160 (GRADOS) C HASTA QUE SE OBTENGA LA PUREZA DESEADA DE LOS ISOMEROS, Y HASTA QUE EL CONTENIDO DE ACIDO SULFURICO EN LA MEZCLA DESCIENDA POR DEBAJO DEL 40%.
