Improvements introduced in the manufacture of electrostatic capacitors that have a capacitance of a required value between a first electrode, a part of which at least is formed by a thin metal deposit on a dielectric layer and a second electrode characterized in that they comprise forming a capacitor that has a capacitance between the first and second electrodes above the required value and incorporate in the third electrode and a dielectric separating layer that remains between the first and third electrodes and in contact with them apply a voltage between the first and third electrodes and increase the applied voltage either gradually or step-by-step to pierce the top layer in an increasing number of sites and burn the thin metal deposit on the adjacent dielectric layer in the immediate vicinity of the piercing until the capacitance between the electrodes first and second is reduced to the required value.
