Abstract

A connecting terminal (1) is used for the detachable fastening of at least one power cable to a terminal (which is cylindrical or is slightly conical in the axial direction) of an accumulator or of a rechargeable battery, preferably for motor vehicles. The connecting terminal (1) has two clamping jaws (6) which, in the in-use position, hold the terminal in a positively locking manner between them and, in the open position, can be pushed axially onto the terminal. The clamping jaws (6) can be clamped onto the terminal by means of a screw (7), which runs at the side of the terminal, and a mating thread or mating element which is gripped by said screw. In this case, the screw (7) or its shank (7b) or its centre axis is oriented approximately in the direction in which the connecting terminal (1) is plugged onto the battery terminal. When the screw is tightened into the mating thread or mating element, at least one inclined surface (8) is moved towards a mating surface (9) so that the axial displacement which is produced by the screw (7) transversely with respect to the closing direction of the clamping jaw (6) on the oblique surface (8) can be converted into a displacement in the closing direction of the clamping jaws (6). Two inclined surfaces (8) which are directed towards one another are provided on the clamping jaws (6), that part which is to be screwed having the mating surfaces (9). The intersection lines (12) of a plane (which runs transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the screw (7)) with the inclined surfaces (8) on the clamping jaws (6) are curved, the mating surfaces (9) of the clamping element being shaped such that they are curved in a complementary manner. <IMAGE>
