Abstract
A method of increasing the surface area of an aluminum or aluminum alloy body by subjecting it to an electrolytic corrosion process in a suitable electrolyte of the type described in which the corrosion current is a pulsed direct current of high medium density, such being the degree the type and frequency of the pulsation of the current the average density of the current the composition and concentration of the electrolyte and the depth of penetration of the corrosion that the body corroded if it formed anodically subsequently at 500 v. formation voltage would have a substantially greater electrical increase than those exhibited for similarly anodically formed corroded bodies corroded by known electrolytic corrosion processes in which the corrosion current is essentially smoothed direct current.
