Abstract

One of the two comparators coupled to the lead concerned responds acording to the direction of flow of current in the lead directly it reaches a set threshold value. The outputs of the comparators are connected to an evaluating circuit for digital signals galvanically separated from the coupling circuit. The evaluating circuit (A) is supplied from a voltage source also galvanically separated from the coupling circuit. The outputs of both comparators (1,2) are connected to at least one opto-coupler (8) with its receive side coupled to the evaluating circuit to prevent the latter affecting the current detection. The voltage source can be a photo-voltaic coupler. ADVANTAGE - Current flowing in coupling circuit (K) can be kept low. No reaction on current detection from circuit conditions.
