Abstract

Each feed (1-3), e.g. in the dial, of the multiple feed circular knitting machine is provided with selector cams (91-121) to position needles in one of three positions, knit, tuck and welt positions. Two types of knitting needles (4, 5) are provided and each type of needle includes a master butt (4a, 5a) for engaging a stitch cam (8), a knit selector butt (4b, 4c) and a tuck selector butt (4d, 5e). The selector cams (91-121) comprise knit selector cam (9, 10) and tuck selector cams (11, 12) and are mounted on rotatable selector cam cylinders (9-12), the knit cylinders (9, 10) overlapping the tuck cylinders (11, 12) to permit the selector cams to be arranged at the closest possible lateral distance from each other and to thereby permit an increased number of feeds to be positioned around the machine.
