Abstract

A raw leather piece for use, for example, in making shoes or fancy leather goods is finished by applying a dressing and then a finishing composition to an intermediate support, independent from the leather piece and then transferring the coating consisting of layers of the dressing and finishing composition on to the raw leather piece in a moulding/pressing machine where the coating is heated by high frequency electromagnetic radiation. This overcomes the tendency for the coating to stick to the mould or press and the tendency for the decomposition or deterioration of the coating composition which sometimes occurs in externally heated presses.
