Abstract

The system comprises an exchange transmitter, air exchange receiver and an exchange coupler for coupling the transmitter and receiver to an optical fibre communication line. A passive N-part directioned coupler has one fibre lead coupled to the fibre communication line and N fibre tails extending to respective user stations which are required in the system. Each user station includes a user transmitter, a user receiver and a station coupler for coupling the fibre tail to the user transmitter and user receiver. The exchange and station couplers comprise three-part couplers and one input/output part of the exchange coupler is coupled to the line by a connector. The one fibre lead is coupled to the line by a fused connection.
