Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a hollow glass container comprising a ring having a specific rim profile.
  • the rim designates the upper part of the ring forming the opening of the container.
  • the notched caps intended to close these containers have a circular groove at the bottom of which there is a seal.
  • this seal is intended to compress on the edge of the ring forming the opening of the container.
  • the high value of the opening torque required to open conventional containers may be due to the fact that current container ring and capsule geometries allow free compression of the seal. This compression of the joint can lead to excessive deformation of the joint, also called punching of the joint. It can also lead to an increase in the surface area in contact between the rim and the seal. Therefore, the tribological constraint to be overcome in order to open the container is aggravated.
  • FIG. 1 a hollow glass container of the prior art is shown, for example intended to package jam.
  • the container 1 comprises a generally cylindrical body 2 having a closed lower end 2a forming the bottom of the container 1, and an upper end 2b opened.
  • the upper end 2b is formed of a ring 3 having an external wall 3a provided with threads 4 and an upper part called rim 5.
  • container 1 of the prior art of the Figure 1 is intended to be closed in a conventional manner by means of a capsule 6 having notches 7 configured to cooperate with the threads 4 of the external wall 3a of the ring 3 in order to screw the capsule 6 onto the ring 3.
  • the capsule 6 has also a circular groove 8 at the bottom of which there is a seal 9 also circular. When the capsule 6 is screwed onto the ring 3 of the container 1, the seal 9 is compressed on the rim 5.
  • the rim 5 may have differences in flatness, with high points 5a and low points 5b.
  • the dimensional deviations of the ring 3, and in particular of the rim 5, expose the areas of the seal 9 which are in contact with the high points 5a to increased joint punching depths.
  • a cross section of a circular groove 8 of a capsule 6 of the Figure 2 is shown a cross section of a circular groove 8 of a capsule 6 of the Figure 2 , with the seal 9 in new condition, in other words before any use of the capsule 6 for the purpose of closing a container 1.
  • the seal 9 is for example a seal cast in PVC (chloride polyvinyl).
  • This length of arc of contact (Arc) corresponds to the arc of a circle between the two straight lines A1 and A2 indicated on the Figure 6 .
  • This contact arc length is calculated after reading the profile by a probe or by non-contact optical method.
  • the contact arc length corresponds to the sum of the distances calculated between the successive points involved in the drinking/joint contact zone.
  • we also measure for the imprint 10 a height of this contact arc corresponding to the punching height, indicated by Hp on the Figure 6 .
  • the present invention aims to remedy this need by providing a hollow glass container comprising a ring having a specific rim profile.
  • the present invention thus relates to a hollow glass container comprising a ring intended to cooperate with a notched capsule to close said container, characterized in that said ring has a rim whose cross section has a profile substantially in the shape of an ogive, said profile defining for the warhead a base having a center, two sides, and a vertex, said vertex being aligned with a point located at the center of the base or offset in the direction of an interior of the container relative to said point located at center of the base.
  • the profile of the rim of the container according to the invention is similar to a broken arc whose top is free of flat areas.
  • the specific profile of the rim of the container according to the invention makes it possible to significantly reduce the length of the arc of contact between the rim and the seal of a capsule closing the container, at a comparable punching height.
  • the specific profile of the rim of the container according to the invention makes it possible to reduce the contact arc lengths by 27 to 60% compared to a standard rim profile as shown in Figure 4 .
  • said vertex has an arcuate shape having a radius Rs ranging from 0.10 to 1.25 mm, preferably from 0.40 to 1.00 mm.
  • the top of the warhead is thus free from any flat areas.
  • Rs can be equal to 0.80 mm.
  • the top of the warhead is aligned with a point located in the center of the base of the warhead.
  • the profile of the rim can thus define a symmetrical ogive.
  • the profile of the rim of the container according to the invention defines an asymmetrical ogive, the top of the ogive being offset in the direction of inside the container, relative to a point located in the center of the base of the warhead.
  • Such an embodiment can have the advantage of more easily controlling the reflux of material from the seal of the capsule onto the sides of the rim during storage of the closed container.
  • Such an embodiment also makes it possible to advantageously reduce the length of the arc of contact between the rim and the seal of a capsule closing the container, at a comparable punching height, compared to an embodiment, not according to the invention, in which the top of the warhead would be offset in the direction of the exterior of the container relative to a point located in the center of the base of the warhead.
  • the base of the warhead has a width Lp ranging from 1.0 mm to 10.0 mm, preferably from 2.0 mm to 6.0 mm.
  • the height Hs of the ogive, from the base to its top ranges from 0.5 mm to 5 mm, preferably from 1.0 mm to 3.0 mm.
  • the side of the warhead located towards the inside of the container joins the generally rectilinear profile of an interior wall of the ring along an arc of a circle having a radius Ri ranging from 0.10 mm to 1, 25 mm, preferably ranging from 0.40 mm to 1.00 mm.
  • the side of the warhead located towards the inside of the container may itself be slightly curved or substantially rectilinear.
  • the side of the cone located towards the outside of the container joins the generally rectilinear profile of an outer wall of the ring along an arc of a circle having a radius Re ranging from 0.10 mm to 1, 25 mm, preferably ranging from 0.40 mm to 1.00 mm.
  • the side of the warhead located towards the outside of the container may itself be slightly curved or substantially rectilinear.
  • the ring of the container according to the invention can also be provided on its outer wall with particular threads making it possible to limit the tightening of the capsule on the container when closing the container. This limitation of the tightening of the capsule also makes it possible to reduce the opening torque necessary to open the container. Thus, people with little strength in their hands can open the container according to the invention more easily.
  • the outer wall of the ring is provided with at least one thread of a first type, said thread of the first type being intended to cooperate with the notches of the capsule intended to close said container, said net of the first type comprising, from top to bottom, a first inclined net segment, a second substantially horizontal net segment, and a third inclined net segment, said third net segment being further provided with a anti-screwing stop.
  • the outer wall of the ring is provided with at least two such threads of a first type, diametrically opposed.
  • the first thread segment inclined, allows the initiation of screwing and the progressive crushing of the seal during tightening.
  • the presence of the anti-screwing stop on the third thread segment prevents excessive tightening of the capsule. This is particularly advantageous when the capsules are screwed onto the containers industrially by machines, such as cappers, which apply tightening torques automatically.
  • the outer wall of the ring can be provided with at least four such threads of the first type, said four threads of the first type being diametrically opposed in pairs.
  • the outer wall of the ring is provided with at least one thread of a second type, said thread of the second type being intended to cooperate with the notches of the capsule intended to close said containing, said net of the second type comprising, from top to bottom, a first inclined net segment, a second substantially horizontal net segment, and a third net segment, said third net segment being free of anti- screwing.
  • the outer wall of the ring can for example be provided with at least two such threads of the second type, diametrically opposed.
  • the outer wall of the ring can be provided with four threads of the second type, said four threads of the second type being diametrically opposed in pairs.
  • the outer wall of the ring can be provided with both threads of the first type and threads of the second type.
  • the outer wall of the ring is provided with threads of the second type only.
  • the distance going from the second horizontal thread segment of the first type threads to the top of the ogive of the rim has a value k ranging from 4.0 mm to 20.0 mm, preferably from 7.0mm to 15.0mm.
  • the container according to the invention can be manufactured by known methods of manufacturing glass containers, such as for example the press-blown process or the blown-blown process.
  • the container 20 is hollow and is made of glass. It comprises a cylindrical body 21 defining an interior 20a of the container 20, having a closed lower end 21a forming the bottom of the container 20 and an open upper end 21b.
