The fabric is made up of a large number of weft threads and warp threads. The weft threads and the warp threads are formed by different yarns in the fabric as a whole. In other words, the fabric includes different types of yarns that can be used for both the weft threads and the warp threads. At least one yarn blown into the fabric is a heat-shrinkable plastic yarn. Said plastic yarn is present in an amount from 1% to 60% by weight of the fabric. The heat-shrinkable plastic yarn has the technical function that the fabric as a whole can be heat-shrunk when thermal energy is applied.
The heat shrinking of a fabric is of particular interest in the field of furniture construction, with the fabric being clamped in an at least two-sided support frame before it is subjected to thermal energy that triggers the desired shrinkage. The latter causes the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn to shrink and thereby stretch the fabric in the supporting frame, which serves as an abutment for the fabric. Any waves or other unevenness in the clamped fabric are thereby resolved and the fabric is "smoothed".
This type of installation of a heat-shrinkable, self-supporting textile fabric is particularly advantageous where the fabric is used as a self-supporting element, for example for a seat or a backrest of a chair. The self-supporting property of the fabric is characterized in that loads acting on the fabric, in particular the weight of a person sitting on a chair, can be transferred solely by means of the fabric to a higher-level supporting structure, for example a described supporting frame, are removed. A supporting structure in the area of the fabric is not required.
In the area of building construction, especially for commercial real estate, there are increasing requirements regarding fire protection measures to be observed. This is important, for example, in larger office buildings where the seating used represents a non-negligible fire load for the building. Accordingly, it is desirable to design such furniture in such a way that it contributes to improving the security of a respective object in relation to fire protection compared to the prior art. Since a significant part of modern office chairs consists of their textile covering, the flammability of the fabric used there is becoming increasingly important.
The present application is therefore based on the object of providing a heat-shrinkable, self-supporting textile fabric which, from a fire protection point of view, contributes to greater safety.
The underlying object is achieved according to the invention by means of a heat-shrinkable, self-supporting textile fabric with the features of
The fabric according to the invention is characterized in that the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn of the fabric is formed from a flame-retardant monofilament or a flame-retardant multifilament. It is also essential that all yarns woven into the fabric are free of elastomers.
The heat-shrinkable plastic yarn is used in the fabric as both the warp and the weft. In other words, at least some of the warp threads and at least some of the weft threads are formed by the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn.
The heat-shrinkable plastic yarn is formed to have a heat shrinkage of 3% to 50% based on a non-shrunk length at a temperature ranging between 80°C and 180°C. The heat shrinkage in a temperature range between 100° C. and 180° C. is preferably between 10% and 50%, preferably between 20% and 50%, more preferably between 30% and 50%.
Furthermore, the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn has the property that it has a heat shrinkage of at most 10% in a temperature range between 80° C. and 100° C. Consequently, the plastic yarn has a comparatively low degree of shrinkage in a low temperature range between 80° C. and 100° C., while the shrinkage can be very pronounced with further heating. The latter is particularly advantageous for the covering of a support frame, the fabric being heated and thereby shrunk as intended after the anchoring and manual covering of the support frame. As a result, the fabric is clamped on the support frame at least essentially without creases and can then perform its self-supporting function, for example as the backrest or seat of a chair.
The design of the fabric in the form described has the technical effect that the fabric as a whole can be classified as "flame-retardant". The production of a heat-shrinkable, self-supporting textile fabric, which at the same time is considered to be flame-retardant, is considered fundamentally impossible in the prior art, since the property of heat-shrinkability is fundamentally incompatible with the property of flame-retardance. A first aspect of this is that the finishing agents used to manufacture the fabric, which are applied to the threads, should be cleaned off to ensure low flammability. The finishing agents, which are important to a certain extent for lubricating the threads in the manufacture of the fabric, are typically highly combustible and thus have an oxidizing effect on the fabric as a whole. It is therefore hardly possible to provide a flame-retardant fabric overall without removing the finishing agents. To remove the finishing agent, however, it is necessary to clean a particular fabric under the action of thermal energy, for example using a warm washing fluid, for example water. However, in the presence of an elevated temperature, shrinkage of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn, and hence of the fabric as a whole, is at least partially initiated. However, for the use of the fabric, this shrinkage should only take place in a controlled manner at a later point in time, when the fabric is clamped in a corresponding support frame is. As is usual with other fabrics, it seemed necessary that the finishing agents mentioned remain on the fabric. The property of low flammability could hardly be achieved with it.
From a second aspect, it is generally considered imperative for self-supporting textile fabrics to use yarns formed from elastomers. Such yarns have a particularly pronounced fully elastic range. This enables them to absorb a particularly pronounced elongation, which can be completely reversed without permanent plastic deformation. This property is particularly important in the case of self-supporting fabrics, which can form, for example, a seat surface or a backrest of an office chair, so that, for example, a seat surface formed by such a fabric deforms under the action of forces but also deforms after the forces are removed can deform back again. However, it has been shown that only those fabrics meet the flame retardancy requirements whose yarns are free of elastomers, even if these elastomers are classified as flame retardant. Surprisingly, it turned out that elastomers can be dispensed with for the formation of self-supporting fabrics. All yarns of the fabric according to the invention are therefore free of elastomers, which means that the flame retardancy is achieved.
The design of the fabric according to the invention in the form described, i.e. with a heat-shrinkable plastic yarn which is formed from a flame-retardant monofilament or a flame-retardant multifilament and whose yarns are free of elastomers, means that the flame-retardant property can be achieved. In addition, it has surprisingly been shown that a heat-shrinkable, self-supporting textile fabric can also be produced with these boundary conditions. For this purpose, due to the circumstances described, it is particularly advantageous to clean the fabric of finishing agents. The shrinkage as a result of the input of thermal energy must not be triggered here, or at least not completely. Accordingly, it is significant that the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn only has a maximum heat shrinkage of 10% in the temperature range between 80° C. and 100° C., with the heat shrinkage being able to be in the range between 3% and 10%, for example. The cleaning of finishing agents from the fabric can take place approximately in the stated temperature range. In the case of heat-shrinkable plastic yarn, cleaning only leads to minor shrinkage, if at all. Preferably, the heat shrinkage of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn in said Maximum temperature range 5%, for example the heat shrinkage can be in the range between 3% and 5%.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the fabric according to the invention, all yarns are flame retardant. The fabric is preferably flame retardant overall. The fabric can comprise only one heat-shrinkable plastic yarn or several such yarns. The same applies to non-heat-shrinkable yarns. If, for example, only one heat-shrinkable plastic yarn is used, all the heat-shrinkable threads are formed from this yarn.
Furthermore, such a fabric is particularly advantageous in which the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn is formed from PET. This has turned out to be particularly advantageous in order to obtain both a flame-retardant yarn and a heat-shrinkable yarn that has a certain fully elastic range. Irrespective of the formation of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn made of PET, although it is particularly advantageous in combination with this property, it is of particular advantage if the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn can absorb fully elastic elongations of up to a maximum of 2%, preferably a maximum of 3%, more preferably a maximum of 5% .
The fabric according to the invention is also advantageous when at least one non-heat-shrinkable yarn, preferably all of the non-shrinkable yarns, is or are formed from flame-retardant polyester. This configuration makes it particularly easy to design the fabric as a whole to be flame-retardant.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the fabric according to the invention, it is cleaned, in particular washed, in such a way that the finishing agents applied to the threads of the fabric for a washing process are at least essentially, preferably completely, removed. As explained above, the removal of the finishing agents is of particular advantage for achieving the property of low flammability of the fabric, since said finishing agents typically have an oxidizing effect, since they themselves are combustible.
Further developing the fabric according to the invention, the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn has a diameter of between 0.05 mm and 1.0 mm, preferably between 0.1 mm and 0.75 mm, preferably between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm. Furthermore, it can be advantageous if the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn has a linear density between 500 dtex and 11,000 dtex, preferably between 1,000 dtex and 8,500 dtex, more preferably between 2,000 dtex and 5,500 dtex. Furthermore, it can be beneficial be when the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn at a temperature between 10 °C and 100 °C has a tenacity between 10 cN/tex and 100 cN/tex, preferably between 20 cN/tex and 75 cN/tex, more preferably between 30 cN/tex and 50 cN/tex. Heat-shrinkable plastic yarns with one or more of these properties are particularly well suited for use in furniture construction.
Furthermore, it can be particularly advantageous if the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn has a shrinkage force of 100 cN to 1,000 cN at a temperature of 80° C. to 180° C. and/or a shrinkage force of 0.5 cN/tex to 1.0 cN/tex at a temperature of 80°C to 180°C. Advantageously, the shrinkage force in a temperature range between 80° C. and 100° C. is still comparatively low, preferably at most 250 cN and/or at most 0.6 cN/tex. This is advantageous insofar as an initial shrinkage of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn, which can occur as part of a cleaning process for cleaning the fabric of finishing agents, produces only those shrinkage forces that can be handled without excessive expense in terms of device technology. In particular, the shrinkage forces are of such magnitude that a clamping frame used in the context of drying the fabric can dissipate the shrinkage forces without causing damage.
It has been found that the above-mentioned properties of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn are particularly advantageous for the formation of the fabric individually, but especially in combination with one another.
Regarding one or more non-heat-shrinkable yarns that are processed in the fabric and can also be referred to as "filler yarns", it is particularly advantageous if at least one non-heat-shrinkable yarn is formed from a monofilament, a multifilament, a spun yarn or a chenille yarn is. Yarns of this type are particularly well suited for adjusting the feel and visual design of a particular fabric.
The fabric according to the invention is also of particular advantage when it has a weft density in the range between 3 picks per centimeter and 50 picks per centimeter, preferably between 5 picks per centimeter and 40 picks per centimeter, more preferably between 7 picks per centimeter and 30 picks per centimeters. Such an embodiment has proven to be particularly advantageous, particularly with regard to the desired self-supporting properties of the fabric according to the invention.
The underlying object is also achieved according to the invention by means of a set having the features of claim 10 . This comprises a support frame and a heat-shrinkable or heat-shrunk, self-supporting textile fabric according to the present invention. The fabric is clamped into the support frame on at least two opposite sides in such a way that shrinkage forces occurring during shrinkage of the fabric can be dissipated in the support frame and the fabric can be tensioned in the support frame in this way. In principle it is conceivable that the fabric is stretched in several directions, in particular both in the weft and in the warp direction. The shrinkage of the fabric with the application of thermal energy, i.e. by heating the fabric to a temperature above a shrinkage temperature of the fabric or the shrinkage temperature of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn responsible for the shrinkage of the fabric, causes said heat-shrinkable plastic yarn to shrink. Due to the clamping of the fabric in the support frame, at least some of the threads formed by the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn, preferably all of these threads, cannot shorten freely, so that said threads - and therefore the fabric as a whole - are stretched in the support frame. The ends of the respective threads located on the sides of the fabric are anchored in the supporting frame, so that the supporting frame absorbs the tensile forces occurring as a result of the shrinkage.
The set according to the invention has the particular advantage that it combines the advantages of a self-supporting, heat-shrinkable textile fabric with flame retardancy, so that objects in which such a set is installed as a component, for example in an office chair, can be classified as flame retardant overall.
Finally, the underlying object is also achieved by means of a method having the features of claim 11 . Advantageous refinements result from the associated subclaims.
The method according to the invention provides that a heat-shrinkable, self-supporting textile fabric according to the present invention is cleaned before its intended shrinkage in such a way that finishing agents adhering to the yarns of the fabric are cleaned off.
According to the above explanation, the cleaning of the finishing agents is particularly advantageous in order to ensure the flame retardancy property of the fabric, since the finishing agents typically have an oxidizing effect. The cleaning Finishing agents from a shrinkable fabric that comprises at least one heat-shrinkable plastic yarn is unusual in the prior art, since the heat input into the fabric required for cleaning is regarded as incompatible with a heat-shrinkable fabric. In particular, there is the prejudice that a heat-shrinkable fabric leads to uncontrolled, premature shrinkage of the fabric during cleaning with the input of thermal energy, in particular during a washing process with a warm washing fluid, before it is clamped in a supporting frame in the desired manner.
The method according to the invention is particularly advantageous when the fabric is placed in a solvent for a period of time in order to remove the finishing agent from the yarns. In this case, the solvent is preferably formed from a mixture of water and at least one detergent which is suitable for dissolving the finishing agent used in each case. Advantageously, no movement or any other mechanical cleaning process of the tissue takes place during the release period.
Furthermore, the method can be advantageous when the fabric is washed using a washing fluid, with a temperature of the washing fluid preferably being below a shrinkage temperature of the heat-shrinkable plastic yarn. In particular, it is advantageous if the temperature of the washing fluid is below 80°C. In the context of the present application, “washing” also includes what is known as “rinsing”, in which a respective textile is typically rinsed out only by means of a washing fluid, typically pure water, without the use of a detergent. Here, both loosened dirt particles and any detergent that was previously applied to the textile to loosen the dirt particles are washed out. In the context of the present method, it can also be particularly advantageous if the fabric is first placed in a solvent that includes at least one detergent and then washed in terms of rinsing as described above, with the washing fluid used for this having no added detergent . Washing using a washing fluid to which a detergent is added is also conceivable.
In a further advantageous embodiment, after washing, the fabric is clamped in a clamping frame, aligned and then dried. The drying is advantageously carried out by means of upper air and/or lower air. Drying, which also involves subjecting the fabric to heat energy, is another process step that is generally regarded as incompatible with a heat-shrinkable textile, since premature shrinkage of the fabric occurs during drying of the respective textile threatens to be triggered, which can make the textile unusable for further economic use.
In order to avoid this, it is also of particular advantage if the fabric is dried by means of a drying oven, the dwell time of the fabric in the drying oven and a drying temperature prevailing in the drying oven being coordinated with one another in such a way that a surface temperature on a surface of the fabric is a maximum 30%, preferably at most 15%, more preferably at most 5%, above the shrinkage temperature of the fabric. The "dwell time" and "drying temperature" parameters have a reciprocal effect on the surface temperature of the fabric. Consequently, the drying temperature in the drying oven can turn out to be all the higher, the shorter the dwell time of the fabric in the drying oven, and vice versa. For example, it is conceivable that the fabric is fed through the drying oven at a constant feed rate, while an at least substantially constant drying temperature is present within the drying oven over an entire drying section over which the fabric is fed through the drying oven.
It has been found that exceeding the shrinkage temperature of the fabric on the surface of the fabric is acceptable within a certain range, since any shrinkage of the fabric that has already been triggered as a result, which is actually undesirable, is so small in terms of amount that there is a remaining shrinkage potential of the dried product Tissue is still sufficient to further shrink it in the desired manner after clamping it in a support frame in a targeted manner with the input of further thermal energy.

After the
After drying,
