Definitions
- the invention relates to a cup made of paper, cardboard or paper-like material with a fillable interior which is formed by a shell and a base, the base being attached to the shell at the lower end of the interior by means of a frame in a substantially liquid-tight manner, with a lower edge the frame forms a base for the cup, the cup having an outer casing, the outer casing consisting of a flat blank made of paper or paper-like material, the longitudinal edges of which are connected to one another at least in sections in an overlapping area, so that the outer casing forms a sleeve, wherein the outer shell has a frusto-conical shape with a cone angle at least up to a predefined distance before its lower end and is constructed in one layer at least from the predefined distance up to the lower end with the exception of the overlapping area.
- the aim of the invention is to improve a cup made of paper, cardboard or paper-like material.
- the lower area of the outer jacket is single-layered, with the exception of the overlapping area, and the jacket tapers in the lower area from the predefined distance to the lower end, at least in sections, more than in the area above the predefined distance.
- a constriction is thus provided on the outer casing at the lower end of the outer casing forming a sleeve, without the lower end of the outer casing being rolled up.
- the outer jacket is not only easier to produce as a result, the outer jacket also lies closer to the jacket of the inner cup in the lower area and can therefore be easily glued to the jacket, for example using hot glue or hot-melt adhesive.
- embossings are required in the lower area of the outer casing.
- the outer surfaces of the outer shell can be located within an imaginary parallel to the shell delimiting the interior space, which is applied to a largest diameter of the frame. A stackability of several cups can also be achieved in other ways.
- the cup according to the invention is made of paper, cardboard or paper-like material.
- Such cups are usually also referred to as paper cups.
- Paper-like material is a material that can be processed in a similar way to paper or cardboard. Paper or cardboard has fibers and as a result cannot be stretched practically and can only be compressed to a very small extent. Paper, cardboard or paper-like material in particular cannot be deep-drawn, and generally cannot be severely deformed.
- the shell, base and outer shell must therefore be made from separate, flat blanks.
- Plastic material for example, which cannot be stretched or can only be stretched to a very small extent, is also regarded as a paper-like material. In the production of a cup from such a paper-like plastic material, both the casing, the bottom and the outer casing must be made from flat cuts and glued to one another in an overlapping area.
- the base and the casing of the cup are connected to one another in an essentially liquid-tight manner by means of a frame.
- the term "substantially liquid-tight" is understood to mean that the cup can be filled with cold drinks or hot drinks and is then liquid-tight for a certain time, for example for several hours.
- the frame is formed, for example, in that a lower edge of the shell by 180 ° folded around an edge of the base and the jacket and the base are then pressed and sealed together in the area of the frame.
- the lower edge of the base can also be wrapped around the lower edge of the jacket to form the frame.
- the outer casing is connected to the casing by means of hot glue or hot-melt adhesive.
- hot-melt adhesive in particular allows secure attachment with very short cycle times.
- the connection between the outer casing and the casing of the inner cup can take place either in an area in which liquid is arranged in the interior or also in an area below the base of the inner cup, in which there is no longer any liquid.
- Modern hot melt adhesives are sufficiently heat resistant to withstand the temperatures of hot liquids being poured into the cup.
- a bead of adhesive is arranged between the outer surface of the casing and the inner surface of the outer casing, at least over sections of the circumference of the casing and above the lower end of the outer casing.
- the bond between the outer casing and the casing of the inner cup is not visible from the outside.
- the bead of adhesive is applied to the jacket of the inner cup and then the outer jacket is applied.
- the outer jacket can either be pushed on as a finished sleeve from the bottom side of the inner cup or wound onto the finished inner cup and only then glued.
- the outer shell can be sealed or glued to the shell of the inner cup in an area below a mouth roll of the inner cup.
- the outer shell can have a curl at its upper end in order to provide a sufficiently large air gap between the outer shell and the shell of the inner cup.
- the inner cup may also have a re-entrant shoulder below the lip roll which defines the air gap in that area.
- the outer jacket is corrugated in the lower area, with the wave troughs running perpendicular to the circumferential direction from the predefined distance to the lower end.
- a wavy constriction instead of a constriction that is uniform over the circumference is advantageous for larger angles of the constriction, since the excess material when constricting or tapering the lower area of the outer jacket can be displaced into the crests of the waves.
- the casing has a stacking shoulder which is recessed in the direction of the interior of the cup and whose dimensions are matched to the lower edge of the frame, so that when an upper and a lower cup are stacked the lower edge of the frame of an upper cup the stacking shoulder of the lower cup comes to rest.
- a very stable stacked composite can be formed from a plurality of cups, so that numerous cups, for example twenty cups or more, can be stacked on top of one another without the stacked cups jamming into one another.
- the casing has a reinforcement on its outside at the stacking shoulder.
- the cup 10 has an interior 14 which is open at the top and is delimited by a base 16 at the bottom.
- the floor has a floor panel 18 and a floor collar 20 .
- the bottom collar 20 extends downwardly from the bottom panel 18 so that the bottom has the shape of an inverted pot.
- the interior space 14 is further formed by means of a jacket 22 .
- the jacket 22 is wrapped around the bottom collar 20 by 180° at its lower edge.
- the jacket 22 and the base collar 20 are pressed together and sealed to one another at least in a part of the fold-over area, thereby forming a skirt 24 which connects the jacket 22 and the base 16 to one another in a liquid-tight manner.
- liquids in particular hot or cold liquids, can be filled into the interior 14 of the cup 10 .
- the skirt 22 is curled at its upper edge, thereby forming a lip 26.
- the lip 26 forms the upper end of an inner cup made of the skirt 22 and the base 16. The lip 26 makes drinking from the cup 10 comfortable.
- the outer shell 30 forms a frusto-conical sleeve and is frusto-conical from its upper edge to a predefined distance 40 to the lower end 36 with a first taper angle. From the predefined distance 40 to the lower end 36 of the outer casing 30, this is also designed in the shape of a truncated cone with a second cone angle. The second cone angle is larger than the first cone angle.
- the outer casing 30 has a constriction in its lower area, i.e. from the predefined distance 40 to the lower end 36, in which it tapers more than in the upper area from the predefined distance 40 to the upper edge of the outer casing 30.
- the outer shell 30 In its lower region, the outer shell 30 is bonded to the outside of the shell 22 of the inner cup just above its lower end 36 by means of a bead of adhesive 42 .
- the outer casing 30 and the inner cup thus form a stable unit. This also ensures that the outer jacket 30 is not compressed even when the cup is filled when a user grips the cup 10 with one hand, and consequently the width of the air gap 38 is not reduced to such an extent that the outer jacket 30 becomes too hot and the user can no longer hold the cup 10.
- the cup 10 can be stacked.
- the frame 24 has a widening in its lower area and a maximum diameter A of the frame 24 is approximately at the lower edge of the frame 24 .
- the bottom edge of the frame also forms the base for the cup 10.
- the jacket 22 is provided with a stacking shoulder 44 which protrudes into the interior 14 and forms a support for the bottom edge of the frame 24 of another cup.
- a maximum diameter B of the stacking shoulder is equal to or slightly larger than the maximum diameter A at the lower edge of the frame 24.
- the frame 24 of the cup 50a, 50b is only slightly expanded, which is shown in the illustration 2 can hardly be seen. This slight widening of the frame 24 is sufficient because the air gap 38 between the outer shell 30 of the cup 50a and the shell 22 of the cup 50a is comparatively small. Nevertheless, the air gap 38 is sufficient to provide adequate insulation for the double-walled cup 50a. Within the scope of the invention, the widening of the frame 24 can be omitted.
- the cup 50b is designed identically to the cup 50a and is therefore not explained separately.
- the bead of adhesive 42 can also be seen, which connects and glues the outer casing 30 and the casing 22 of the inner cup. It can be seen from the stacking shoulder 44 of the jacket 22 of the inner cup that a reinforcement 52 has been attached to the outer surface of the jacket 22 at the stacking shoulder 44 .
- This reinforcement 52 can be formed, for example, as a bead of adhesive applied to the outer surface of the jacket 22 over the entire circumference.
- the representation of 3 shows in sections and in a sectional view two further cups 60a and 60b according to the invention stacked one inside the other according to a third embodiment.
- the inner cups of the cups 60a, 60b are identical to the inner cups of the cups 50a and 50b of FIG 2 and will therefore not be explained again.
- the outer casing 30 rests against the casing 22 of the inner cup only in the region of the troughs of the waves. In the region of the wave troughs, therefore, only adhesive spots or adhesive drops 62 are provided, in particular made of hot-melt adhesive, which securely connect the outer jacket 30 to the jacket 22 .
- the corrugated design of the outer casing 30 in its lower area facilitates the formation of the constriction in the lower area, since the material that is superfluous in the wave troughs during constriction can be displaced into the wave crests.
- FIG. 12 shows a sectional view of the cup 60b of FIG 3 to the cutting plane IV-IV in 3 .
- the wavy design of the outer shell 30 can be seen clearly and it can also be seen that the outer shell 30 is only in contact with the outer surface of the inner shell 22 in the area of its wave troughs.
- the dots of glue 62 or drops of glue are shown in FIG 4 only hinted at.
- the cup according to the invention allows the outer shell 30 and the shell 22 of the inner cup to be connected by means of hot glue or hot-melt adhesive.
- An essential advantage of the cups 10, 50a, 50b, 60a, 60b according to the invention is that less material is required for the outer casing 30 than in the case of a conventional outer casing which is folded or rolled in at the lower end.
- figure 5 12 shows a cup 70 according to another embodiment of the invention.
- the cup 70 has an inner cup 72 and a sleeve-shaped outer jacket 74 .
- the outer shell 74 has in its upper portion 76 a truncated cone shape with a first cone angle and in its lower portion 78 a constricted shape that tapers more than the upper portion 76.
- the lower portion 78 has, as figure 5 it can be seen that waves or impressions 80 are distributed uniformly over the circumference. In the area of these embossings or waves 80, the outer jacket 74 rests against the jacket 82 of the inner cup 72, see FIG 9 .
- FIG. 6 shows a side view of the cup 70 of FIG figure 5 . It can be seen that there is a constriction or greater narrowing in the lower area 78 of the outer casing 74 than in the upper area 76.
- FIG 8 shows detail B figure 5 .
- the indentations or corrugations 80 on the outer shell 74 can be clearly seen.
- FIG. 10 shows two cups 70a, 70b according to the invention in the stacked state.
- FIG. 11 shows the detail X 10 .
- the outer casing 74 of the cups 70a, 70b in each case abuts on the underside of a mouth roll.
- the upper edge of the outer shell is in contact with a point on the rim which is in the half of the rim facing the inner cup.
- the upper edge of the outer shell 74 can therefore not easily slip out radially outwards, since this is blocked by the mouth roll.
- the outer shell 74 is bonded to the outside of the shell of the inner cup by means of a bead or dots of adhesive 84, such bonding by the bead or dots of adhesive 84 being optional.
- 12 shows the detail Y 10 .
- the lower cup 70b shows that the outer jacket 74 tapers more between a predefined distance 40 above the lower edge 36 than in the upper area above the predefined distance 40. It is in 12 further recognizable that a distance 86 from the lower edge 36 of the outer shell 74 to the lower edge of the frame 24 or to the base of the cup is the same as the predefined distance 40. This results in a visually appealing design of the cups 70a, 70b.
- 12 It can also be seen how the lower edge of the frame 24 of the upper cup 70a rests on the stacking shoulder on the lower cup 70b. The distance between the stacking shoulder and the lower edge of the frame results in a stacking height S between the respective upper ends of the cups 70a, 70b, which 11 is drawn.
- FIG. 13 shows a flat circular ring segment 90, which is used to produce the outer casing 74 of the cup 70 of FIG figure 5 can be used.
- the two longitudinal edges 92, 94 are connected to one another. This is done by overlapping and gluing the areas adjoining the longitudinal edges 92, 94. This results in an overlapping area with a width U, which adjoins the two longitudinal edges 92, 94 in 13 is drawn.
- the 14 12 shows a cup 100 according to a further embodiment of the invention.
- the mug 100 the 14 differs from the cup 70's figure 5 only by the design of the lower region 78 of the outer casing 74.
- the waves or indentations 80 in the case of the cup 100 are unevenly distributed over the circumference.
- the corrugations or indentations 80 result randomly from the necking of the lower portion 78 of the outer shell 74. This uneven distribution of the waves or constrictions 80 is also in 17 to recognize the detail B from 14 shows.
- FIG 15 shows a side view of the cup 100 of FIG 14 .
- 16 shows a view of the section plane BB in 15 .
- the uneven and random distribution of the corrugations or indentations 80 over the circumference of the outer shell 74 is in 16 to recognize.
- the outer shell 74 is connected to the shell of the inner cup only in the region of the embossing or corrugations 80 .

Description
The invention relates to a cup made of paper, cardboard or paper-like material with a fillable interior which is formed by a shell and a base, the base being attached to the shell at the lower end of the interior by means of a frame in a substantially liquid-tight manner, with a lower edge the frame forms a base for the cup, the cup having an outer casing, the outer casing consisting of a flat blank made of paper or paper-like material, the longitudinal edges of which are connected to one another at least in sections in an overlapping area, so that the outer casing forms a sleeve, wherein the outer shell has a frusto-conical shape with a cone angle at least up to a predefined distance before its lower end and is constructed in one layer at least from the predefined distance up to the lower end with the exception of the overlapping area.
The aim of the invention is to improve a cup made of paper, cardboard or paper-like material.
According to the invention, a cup with the features of claim 1 is provided for this purpose. Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims.
In a cup according to the invention, the lower area of the outer jacket is single-layered, with the exception of the overlapping area, and the jacket tapers in the lower area from the predefined distance to the lower end, at least in sections, more than in the area above the predefined distance. In the case of the cup according to the invention, a constriction is thus provided on the outer casing at the lower end of the outer casing forming a sleeve, without the lower end of the outer casing being rolled up. The outer jacket is not only easier to produce as a result, the outer jacket also lies closer to the jacket of the inner cup in the lower area and can therefore be easily glued to the jacket, for example using hot glue or hot-melt adhesive. The cup according to the invention is designed as a double-walled paper cup and an insulating air gap is formed between the outer casing and the casing of the inner cup, at least in the area in which the cup is gripped. Since there is no curling or folding at the lower end of the outer jacket, but the lower end is merely constricted and consequently tapers more than the upper area of the outer jacket, a favorable relationship between the thickness of the insulating gap and a radial distance between two stacked cups reached. This also facilitates the stacking of numerous similar cups according to the invention. A significant advantage of the cup according to the invention is also the saving in material due to the fact that the lower end of the outer jacket is not rolled up or folded over. Although the material saving for each cup is only a few square centimeters, since the air-gap insulated cups according to the invention are disposable products, they are produced in extremely large quantities and the cup according to the invention is therefore significantly more environmentally friendly than conventional cups with the lower end of the outer shell folded in or rolled up. Within the scope of the invention, an angle between the area of the outer casing above the predefined distance and the lower area of the outer casing can be between 5° and 15° if the lower area is smooth. If the upper portion is at an angle of 6° to the central longitudinal axis, the lower portion may then be at an angle of 11^ to 21^ to the central longitudinal axis. If the constriction of the lower area is to be even stronger, then embossings are required in the lower area of the outer casing. The outer surfaces of the outer shell can be located within an imaginary parallel to the shell delimiting the interior space, which is applied to a largest diameter of the frame. A stackability of several cups can also be achieved in other ways.
The cup according to the invention is made of paper, cardboard or paper-like material. Such cups are usually also referred to as paper cups. Paper-like material is a material that can be processed in a similar way to paper or cardboard. Paper or cardboard has fibers and as a result cannot be stretched practically and can only be compressed to a very small extent. Paper, cardboard or paper-like material in particular cannot be deep-drawn, and generally cannot be severely deformed. When manufacturing a cup from paper or cardboard, the shell, base and outer shell must therefore be made from separate, flat blanks. Plastic material, for example, which cannot be stretched or can only be stretched to a very small extent, is also regarded as a paper-like material. In the production of a cup from such a paper-like plastic material, both the casing, the bottom and the outer casing must be made from flat cuts and glued to one another in an overlapping area.
The base and the casing of the cup are connected to one another in an essentially liquid-tight manner by means of a frame. The term "substantially liquid-tight" is understood to mean that the cup can be filled with cold drinks or hot drinks and is then liquid-tight for a certain time, for example for several hours. The frame is formed, for example, in that a lower edge of the shell by 180 ° folded around an edge of the base and the jacket and the base are then pressed and sealed together in the area of the frame. Within the scope of the invention, the lower edge of the base can also be wrapped around the lower edge of the jacket to form the frame.
Paper, cardboard or paper-like material coated on one side is usually used to produce the casing and the base. For example, paper, cardboard or paper-like material is used which is coated on at least one side with a sealable plastic layer. When producing the frame, the lower edge of the shell and the bottom only have to be heated and pressed, resulting in a liquid-tight sealed connection.
In a further development of the invention, the lower region of the casing is designed in the shape of a truncated cone with a second cone angle, the second cone angle being larger than the first cone angle.
In this way, a constriction can be designed in a very simple and visually appealing manner. In the case of paper, cardboard or paper-like material, it must be ensured that the material has to be compressed when the constriction is made. As a result, the constriction cannot be arbitrarily strong if a visually appealing result is to be achieved. According to the invention, the casing in the lower region can also be configured in sections as a truncated cone with a second cone angle, viewed only over the circumference. For example, viewed in the circumferential direction, only sections of the lower region of the outer shell that are spaced apart from one another can rest against the shell of the inner cup, whereas other sections are arranged at a radial distance from the shell of the inner cup.
In a further development of the invention, the outer shell is connected, in particular sealed or glued, to the outside of the shell of the inner cup in the region of its lower end.
In this way, not only can the lower area of the outer casing be securely fastened to the casing of the inner cup, but at the same time a stable combination of the outer casing and the inner cup is produced. This is important because a filled cup is gripped by the outer shell and in this case the air gap between the outer shell and the inner cup in the gripping area must not be reduced to zero when the drinks are very hot.
In a further development of the invention, the outer casing is connected to the casing by means of hot glue or hot-melt adhesive.
The use of hot-melt adhesive in particular allows secure attachment with very short cycle times. The connection between the outer casing and the casing of the inner cup can take place either in an area in which liquid is arranged in the interior or also in an area below the base of the inner cup, in which there is no longer any liquid. Modern hot melt adhesives are sufficiently heat resistant to withstand the temperatures of hot liquids being poured into the cup.
In a development of the invention, a bead of adhesive is arranged between the outer surface of the casing and the inner surface of the outer casing, at least over sections of the circumference of the casing and above the lower end of the outer casing.
As a result, the bond between the outer casing and the casing of the inner cup is not visible from the outside. For example, the bead of adhesive is applied to the jacket of the inner cup and then the outer jacket is applied. The outer jacket can either be pushed on as a finished sleeve from the bottom side of the inner cup or wound onto the finished inner cup and only then glued. In addition, the outer shell can be sealed or glued to the shell of the inner cup in an area below a mouth roll of the inner cup. The outer shell can have a curl at its upper end in order to provide a sufficiently large air gap between the outer shell and the shell of the inner cup. The inner cup may also have a re-entrant shoulder below the lip roll which defines the air gap in that area.
In a development of the invention, the outer jacket is corrugated in the lower area, with the wave troughs running perpendicular to the circumferential direction from the predefined distance to the lower end.
A wavy constriction instead of a constriction that is uniform over the circumference is advantageous for larger angles of the constriction, since the excess material when constricting or tapering the lower area of the outer jacket can be displaced into the crests of the waves.
In a development of the invention, a wave height increases in the direction of the lower end of the outer casing.
In a further development of the invention, the casing has a stacking shoulder which is recessed in the direction of the interior of the cup and whose dimensions are matched to the lower edge of the frame, so that when an upper and a lower cup are stacked the lower edge of the frame of an upper cup the stacking shoulder of the lower cup comes to rest.
In this way, a very stable stacked composite can be formed from a plurality of cups, so that numerous cups, for example twenty cups or more, can be stacked on top of one another without the stacked cups jamming into one another.
In a further development of the invention, the casing has a reinforcement on its outside at the stacking shoulder.
This also contributes to the problem-free stackability of numerous cups according to the invention.

The
The
The
The
The
In its lower region, the
The
