Definitions
- the invention relates to a cover cap for water drainage openings in hollow profiles of a window or door frame, in particular a window frame, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention also relates to a window or door frame composed of hollow profiles, in particular a blind frame, which frame has at least one water drainage opening, according to claim 14.
- a generic cap for water drainage openings in hollow sections of a window or door frame is from DE 20 2004 002 287 U1 known, in which publication reference is also made to other generic caps.
- Covering caps of this type are also frequently referred to in technical circles as water slot covering caps or water slot caps. They are used--in particular for aesthetic reasons--to cover water drainage openings which are regularly present or must be present on the hollow profiles mentioned. They should also prevent dirt from penetrating the window or door frame (window frame) from the outside.
- More caps are from the DE 10 2018 110 514 A1 and from other publications DE 37 22 550 A1 , DE 84 06 312 U1 such as DE 84 17 268 U1 known.
- pressure equalization holes must also be provided in the outer sealing level in the event of high loads. This is usually done in the form of holes in the frame overlap or in the form of seal cutouts. However, such openings are often perceived by traffic as a visual defect.
- the outer sealing level loses its function of improving airtightness, and there is also the risk that the rebate will cool down, which can lead to thermal disadvantages for the entire window or door construction.
- the provision of the aforementioned drainage openings in the frame rebate results in a pressure equalization from the inside to the outside. In this way, no pressure gradient can build up, and if the external pressure is increased for a longer period of time, no more water is discharged from the inside to the outside. In extreme situations, such as persistently high external pressure under test conditions, water can even be forced into the window frame via the drainage openings. In addition, the provision of said openings--as already mentioned--significantly worsens the air-tightness.
- the invention is based on the object of dispensing with the provision of pressure equalization openings while maintaining the same high sealing properties. Additionally or alternatively, the invention is based on the object that To reliably prevent the ingress of water and wind pressure through the drainage openings, but at the same time to allow drainage. In this way, a high tightness class should also be achievable in window or door systems with only one sealing level, such as sliding doors or sliding windows.
- a window or door frame according to the invention in particular a window frame, which is composed of hollow profiles, has at least one water drainage opening which is covered with a cover cap according to the invention.
- the above-mentioned retaining element can be designed specifically as a projection, latching lug or the like.
- configurations in which the holding element is designed as a cohesive fixation for example as an adhesive element, adhesive tape, adhesive layer or the like, should also fall within the scope of protection of the claims.
- the water drainage openings or drainage openings mentioned are intended to fulfill two contradictory tasks.
- incoming water must be able to be discharged to the outside in a controlled manner.
- the drainage must also be closed in the event of increased external pressure, for example in the course of a gust of wind, in order to ensure airtightness and to prevent disturbing noise development and water being pushed in through the water drainage openings.
- the invention provides a movable element in the interior of the covering cap, which closes the water drainage opening in one state, for example when there is a correspondingly high external pressure, while in another state, for example when there is a corresponding amount of water inside, it releases the drainage.
- the movable element or the sealing element is moved away from the contact plane (sealing plane) in the first state mentioned (drainage position).
- the movable element or the sealing element is located in or on the contact plane in order to close the water drainage openings (closed state).
- a kind of non-return mechanism can be implemented, for example by providing a commercially available water slot cover with a movable flap, flag or membrane.
- the movable element can be made in one piece with the rest of the cover cap.
- a cover cap according to the invention is attached both to the inner openings and to the outer openings of frames.
- the movable element can assume a state that deviates from the second state (i.e. the closed state) in an unloaded basic state, preferably by the movable element being designed in such a way that a center of gravity of the movable element in the second state relative to said pivot axis is shifted in the direction of the bearing plane.
- the system level will usually be vertical, i.e. parallel to the direction of gravity (gravitational acceleration g). The movable element then automatically leaves the closed position without any external stress from wind or water.
- the movable element can be designed in one piece with the rest of the covering cap.
- the movable element is movably connected to the rest of the cover cap.
- a connection is preferably made in a force-fitting, form-fitting (e.g. by clipping) or material-to-material connection, for example by gluing or welding.
- Both the movable element and the rest of the cover cap are usually made of a plastic material, with the types of connection mentioned above being particularly suitable.
- the covering cap itself can be made of a thermoplastic material, while the movable element is made of a thermoplastic material in the region of the carrier part.
- the preferred material for manufacturing the sealing element is a soft material, preferably natural rubber, EPDM, silicone or the like.
- the sealing element can be molded onto the carrier part.
- the carrier part can have an opening which widens at the end and through which the material of the sealing element extends in order to form a form fit.
- the sealing element can also be easily replaced by removing it and replacing it with a new sealing element, which engages in or through the opening with a suitably shaped projection (positive fit).
- the sealing element can also be attached to the carrier part in some other way, e.g. glued on.
- the movable element can be a flap, a lug or a membrane, with a surface of the flap, lug or membrane facing away from the interior preferably being able to be placed against the hollow profile with the sealing element in a first state or is located in the system level in order to close a water drainage opening formed there.
- a flap, flag or membrane can - without limitation - have a material thickness of 0.05 mm to 1.0 mm.
- the covering cap is equipped with a restoring mechanism, through which the movable element in the second state experiences a restoring force in the direction of the first state.
- a covering cap thus preferably ensures that the water drainage openings are normally open.
- the covering cap is equipped with a restoring mechanism, by means of which the movable element in the first state experiences a restoring force in the direction of the second state.
- a restoring mechanism by means of which the movable element in the first state experiences a restoring force in the direction of the second state.
- the cover cap is inserted with its holding element into the water drainage opening of the frame. In this way, the water drainage opening is protected, but can fully fulfill its drainage function.
- the covering cap can be developed in such a way that the carrier part is designed to be wider than the sealing element. This can improve the stability of the arrangement.
- the covering cap can also be developed in such a way that the carrier part and the sealing element have the same width. As a result, the sealing effect can be improved.
- the covering cap can be developed in such a way that the sealing element has a width that corresponds to a width of the opening to be closed.
- the sealing effect can be further improved because the sealing element engages in the opening to be closed in a sealing manner.
- the invention is not limited to this; the sealing element can also cover the opening to be closed if it has larger dimensions (especially in terms of width).
- the covering cap can also be provided with at least two holding elements spaced apart from one another, the spacing of which corresponds to a width of the opening. This allows the greatest possible functional integration.
- the covering cap can also be designed in such a way that the carrier part has a bend at its free end, which is oriented in the direction of the sealing element and/or, at least in the second state, in the direction of the contact plane.
- This bend serves as an attack surface for wind, so that the movable element or the flap can be used even with minimal wind load can be triggered to close the (further) breakthrough.
- the shape mentioned thus supports the release mechanism in an advantageous manner at low pressure levels.
- FIG 1 a hollow profile element made of plastic is shown in cross section, which hollow profile element is denoted overall by the reference numeral 1 .
- Such hollow profile elements 1 are used to produce so-called blind frames for doors and/or window openings.
- the blind frame is a frame that is permanently installed in a window or door opening and which accommodates a movable (casement) frame of the window or door and covers it in the edge areas.
- hollow profile elements 1 according to figure 1 mitred and then assembled to form a completely closed frame. This is known per se to a person skilled in the art.
- Profile element 1 according to figure 1 has - according to its name - a large number of hollow chambers, of which in figure 1 only a few are denoted by the reference numeral 1a.
- the outer wall 1b on the outside of the hollow profile element 1 has the hollow profile element 1 at reference number 1c with a water drainage opening, so that moisture that has penetrated between the sash frame (not shown) and the window frame can be drained off to the outside, for example in the event of driving rain.
- suitable drainage openings are provided between the hollow chambers in the hollow profile element 1 figure 1 are not shown.
- cover caps water slot cover caps
- Reference 2 in figure 1 designates a cap of this type according to the invention.
- the covering cap 2 has a top wall 2a, an edge web 2b which can be placed against the outer wall 1b of the hollow profile 1 and protrudes from the top wall 2a, and at least one holding element 2c, which holding element 2c serves to fix the covering cap 2 to a hollow profile 1.
- the edge web 2b defines with its free end or edge a contact plane of the cover cap 2 on the hollow profile, which contact plane according to figure 1 coincides with an outer surface of the outer wall 1b.
- the edge web 2b has at least one opening 2d for the unhindered drainage of water, which flows out of the hollow profile element 1 through the water drainage opening 1c.
- the breakthrough 2d is oriented downwards when the cap 2 is used as intended in the installed state, so that the water can escape unhindered from the cap 2 in the direction of gravity g.
- the edge web 2b defines an interior space 2e of the covering cap 2.
- a movable element is provided in this interior space 2e, which in the embodiment according to FIG figure 1 is designed as a flap, flag or membrane 2f.
- the movable element or flap/flap/membrane 2f is according to FIG figure 1 in the area of the water drainage opening 1c from the outside on the hollow profile 1 and can thus close the water drainage opening 1c.
- this state is also referred to as the “first state”, in which the movable element 2f is essentially located in the contact plane defined further above in order to close the water drainage opening 1c.
- the term "substantially” means that the movable element 2f does not have to be arranged completely in the aforesaid bearing plane, because it is sufficient if this is the case in the area of the water drainage opening 1c.
- FIG 2 shows a possible embodiment of the cover cap 2 in a perspective overall view.
- the movable element 2f is designed as a flap which pivots about a pivot axis (cf. Figures 3 to 5 ) is pivoted within the cover cap 2 is articulated.
- the movable element 2f has a rigid (dimensionally stable) carrier part.
- the movable element 2f has a flexible (soft) sealing element, e.g. made of a soft material, preferably natural rubber, EPDM, silicone or the like, which sealing element 2h is intended to close a further opening 2d' connected to the opening 2d, when the flap 2f is in a certain (second) state (see below Figures 3 to 5 ).
- Support part 2g and sealing element 2h have the same width B.
- the holding elements 2c themselves protrude from said front surface 2b' and have latching lugs in order to attach the covering cap 2 to a hollow profile element 1 ( figure 1 ) to be able to fix in a manner known per se. They frame the further opening 2d', so that their distance a corresponds precisely to a width b of this opening 2d'.
- the width B is greater than the width b or the distance a.
- the movable element 2f is shown in a first state in which it releases the (additional) opening 2d, 2d' for the purpose of dissipating moisture.
- the movable element 2f can in turn be designed as a separate component and preferably with a non-positive fit be connected to the rest of the cover cap 2 (eg clipped in);
- the cover cap has a rib or the like extending into the interior space 2e at reference number 2i, on which the movable element 2f is pivotably articulated (reference number SA designates the associated pivot axis, which extends into the plane of the drawing).
- Reference character A designates the system level already defined above.
- the carrier part 2g of the movable element 2f can have a bend 2ga at its free end in the direction of the sealing element 2h or in the direction of the contact plane A (cf. also figure 4 ) exhibit.

Description
The invention relates to a cover cap for water drainage openings in hollow profiles of a window or door frame, in particular a window frame, according to the preamble of
The invention also relates to a window or door frame composed of hollow profiles, in particular a blind frame, which frame has at least one water drainage opening, according to claim 14.

Window, door and corresponding sliding systems are exposed to different wind and driving rain loads during use. The tightness between the frame (window frame) and sash level is achieved via one or more sealing levels. While a window frame is permanently installed in the reveal of a door or window opening, a sash is the movable, openable part of the window or door. In practice However, the outer sealing level of the frame cannot completely prevent the stresses caused by wind or the ingress of water. For this reason, so-called drainage openings or drainage slots or water drainage openings are installed in the rebate behind the outer sealing level of the frame and on the outer surface of the frame, through which water that penetrates can flow out of the frame to the outside in a controlled manner. In order to ensure this function, so-called pressure equalization holes must also be provided in the outer sealing level in the event of high loads. This is usually done in the form of holes in the frame overlap or in the form of seal cutouts. However, such openings are often perceived by traffic as a visual defect. In addition, the outer sealing level loses its function of improving airtightness, and there is also the risk that the rebate will cool down, which can lead to thermal disadvantages for the entire window or door construction.
In systems with only one outer sealing level, for example in the case of sliding windows, the provision of the aforementioned drainage openings in the frame rebate results in a pressure equalization from the inside to the outside.
The systems described above only achieve low airtightness classes and correspondingly poor driving rain performance within the framework of the (low) available storage height. In systems with several sealing levels, pressure equalization openings must be provided in order to achieve higher tightness values.
The invention is based on the object of dispensing with the provision of pressure equalization openings while maintaining the same high sealing properties.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a covering cap having the features of
According to the invention, a cover cap for water drainage openings in hollow profiles of a window or door frame, in particular a window frame, with a top wall, an edge web that can be placed against the hollow profile and protrudes from the top wall, which edge web defines a contact plane of the cover cap on the hollow profile and at least one opening for the unhindered Drainage of water, and at least one retaining element for fixing the cover cap to the hollow profile, characterized in that an element that can be moved between a first state and a second state is provided in an interior space of the cover cap delimited by the edge web, which element is a rigid carrier part and on its side facing or to be turned towards the contact plane comprises a flexible sealing element, wherein a) in the first state the sealing element is moved away from the contact plane, and b) in the second state the sealing element is located in or on the contact plane.
A window or door frame according to the invention, in particular a window frame, which is composed of hollow profiles, has at least one water drainage opening which is covered with a cover cap according to the invention.
The above-mentioned retaining element can be designed specifically as a projection, latching lug or the like. However, configurations in which the holding element is designed as a cohesive fixation, for example as an adhesive element, adhesive tape, adhesive layer or the like, should also fall within the scope of protection of the claims.
At first glance, the water drainage openings or drainage openings mentioned are intended to fulfill two contradictory tasks. On the one hand - as described at the beginning - incoming water must be able to be discharged to the outside in a controlled manner. In the case of systems with an outer sealing level in particular, however, the drainage must also be closed in the event of increased external pressure, for example in the course of a gust of wind, in order to ensure airtightness and to prevent disturbing noise development and water being pushed in through the water drainage openings. For this purpose, the invention provides a movable element in the interior of the covering cap, which closes the water drainage opening in one state, for example when there is a correspondingly high external pressure, while in another state, for example when there is a corresponding amount of water inside, it releases the drainage. For this purpose, the movable element or the sealing element is moved away from the contact plane (sealing plane) in the first state mentioned (drainage position). In a second state, however, the movable element or the sealing element is located in or on the contact plane in order to close the water drainage openings (closed state). In this way, a kind of non-return mechanism can be implemented, for example by providing a commercially available water slot cover with a movable flap, flag or membrane.
In principle, one-piece or multi-piece variants can be realized within the scope of the present invention. For example, the movable element can be made in one piece with the rest of the cover cap. However, it is also possible to subsequently equip an otherwise commercially available covering cap with a movable element, for example by subsequently cohesively connecting a membrane to a commercially available covering cap.
In a further development of the present invention, it can also be provided that a cover cap according to the invention is attached both to the inner openings and to the outer openings of frames.
- In a particular development of the cover cap according to the invention, the movable element can be mounted so that it can move about a pivot axis oriented parallel to the contact plane. In this way, cover caps that can be opened and closed safely and easily can be realized.
In another development of the cover cap according to the invention, the movable element can assume a state that deviates from the second state (i.e. the closed state) in an unloaded basic state, preferably by the movable element being designed in such a way that a center of gravity of the movable element in the second state relative to said pivot axis is shifted in the direction of the bearing plane. When installed, the system level will usually be vertical, i.e. parallel to the direction of gravity (gravitational acceleration g). The movable element then automatically leaves the closed position without any external stress from wind or water.
As already explained, in a particular development of the covering cap according to the invention, the movable element can be designed in one piece with the rest of the covering cap. Alternatively, however, it is also possible to design the movable element as a component that is separate from the rest of the covering cap. In particular, this also enables conventional cover caps to be retrofitted.
In the course of yet another development of the cover cap according to the invention, it can be provided that the movable element is movably connected to the rest of the cover cap. Such a connection is preferably made in a force-fitting, form-fitting (e.g. by clipping) or material-to-material connection, for example by gluing or welding. Both the movable element and the rest of the cover cap are usually made of a plastic material, with the types of connection mentioned above being particularly suitable.
Preferably, but without limitation, the covering cap itself can be made of a thermoplastic material, while the movable element is made of a thermoplastic material in the region of the carrier part.
The preferred material for manufacturing the sealing element is a soft material, preferably natural rubber, EPDM, silicone or the like.
In a special configuration, the sealing element can be molded onto the carrier part. For this purpose, the carrier part can have an opening which widens at the end and through which the material of the sealing element extends in order to form a form fit. In this way, the sealing element can also be easily replaced by removing it and replacing it with a new sealing element, which engages in or through the opening with a suitably shaped projection (positive fit). In principle, however, the sealing element can also be attached to the carrier part in some other way, e.g. glued on.
It has already been pointed out that the movable element can be a flap, a lug or a membrane, with a surface of the flap, lug or membrane facing away from the interior preferably being able to be placed against the hollow profile with the sealing element in a first state or is located in the system level in order to close a water drainage opening formed there. Such a flap, flag or membrane can - without limitation - have a material thickness of 0.05 mm to 1.0 mm.
In a development of the invention, it can be provided that the covering cap is equipped with a restoring mechanism, through which the movable element in the second state experiences a restoring force in the direction of the first state. Such a covering cap thus preferably ensures that the water drainage openings are normally open.
Alternatively, however, it can also be provided that the covering cap is equipped with a restoring mechanism, by means of which the movable element in the first state experiences a restoring force in the direction of the second state. Such a configuration of the covering cap ensures that the water drainage openings are closed in a normal state.
It is also within the scope of the invention to dispense with such a preferred position entirely and to design the covering cap without a reset mechanism, so that the position of the movable element depends exclusively on the relative pressure conditions currently present.
In a development of the frame according to the invention, it is provided that the cover cap is inserted with its holding element into the water drainage opening of the frame. In this way, the water drainage opening is protected, but can fully fulfill its drainage function.
The covering cap can be developed in such a way that the carrier part is designed to be wider than the sealing element. This can improve the stability of the arrangement.
The covering cap can also be developed in such a way that the carrier part and the sealing element have the same width. As a result, the sealing effect can be improved.
In addition, the covering cap can be developed in such a way that the sealing element has a width that corresponds to a width of the opening to be closed. As a result, the sealing effect can be further improved because the sealing element engages in the opening to be closed in a sealing manner. However, the invention is not limited to this; the sealing element can also cover the opening to be closed if it has larger dimensions (especially in terms of width).
The covering cap can also be provided with at least two holding elements spaced apart from one another, the spacing of which corresponds to a width of the opening. This allows the greatest possible functional integration.
Finally, the covering cap can also be designed in such a way that the carrier part has a bend at its free end, which is oriented in the direction of the sealing element and/or, at least in the second state, in the direction of the contact plane. This bend serves as an attack surface for wind, so that the movable element or the flap can be used even with minimal wind load can be triggered to close the (further) breakthrough. The shape mentioned thus supports the release mechanism in an advantageous manner at low pressure levels.
