Definitions
- the invention relates to a pouch made of a nonwoven material containing a tobacco material and/or another nicotine-containing material, hereinafter also referred to as a snus pouch, oral pouch or oral tobacco pack, these terms applying both to tobacco material and to pouches containing other nicotine-containing material.
- Oral tobacco or smokeless tobacco is a tobacco product or nicotine-containing tobacco substitute (hereinafter also: nicotine-containing substitute, nicotine-containing substrate, other nicotine-containing material or tobacco substitute) that enables rapid absorption of nicotine through the oral mucosa. Tobacco smoke is not released.
- Oral tobacco packs are known which contain a generally moist tobacco composition in a pouch made of a nonwoven material.
- comparable products are also known which contain a dry, often not brownish but white nicotine-containing substitute instead of moist tobacco.
- Snus is a form of oral tobacco that is particularly common in Scandinavia and is made from dried, ground tobacco with water, salt and flavorings. Snus is usually packaged in small cellulose bags and consumed as portion snus. With white portion snus, the pouch is dry to improve storage properties. In some cases, white portion snus uses a nicotine-containing substitute instead of tobacco. With original portion snus, the bag is moist. The snus pouch is placed behind the upper lip or lower lip. It releases tobacco flavor and nicotine within 15 to 60 minutes. The bag is then removed from the mouth.
- Nonwovens made from viscose fibers that are chemically bonded ( chembound ) with binding agents basically meet these different requirements and are established on the market as a standard material for oral tobacco packs.
- the use of a suitable binder allows thermal sealing of the non-thermoplastic nonwovens made of viscose fibers, which are advantageous because of their spontaneous wettability with saliva and their softness. It is important that the binding agent is chosen so that no sharp edges are created when sealing the bag.
- the EP 3 223 636 B1 describes the use of a chemically bonded nonwoven made of viscose fibers with a certain proportion of viscose fibers with a multilobal (trilobal) cross section to optimize the feel, especially for oral use, and for rapid wetting.
- the proportion of multilobal fibers increases the optical transparency of the fleece, accelerates wetting through increased capillary action of the channels formed by the multilobal fibers and offers a pleasant surface roughness upon oral contact.
- the multilobal fibers are relatively expensive.
- Such cellulosic fibers with a multilobal cross section are manufactured by the Kelheim Fibers company and sold under the name Galaxy Fiber.
- the US 9,913,491 B2 describes the use of a nonwoven fabric to make a snus bag.
- a perforated, hydroentangled nonwoven made of viscose fibers is preferably additionally treated with a chemical binder in order to obtain the desired material properties.
- the perforation increases the permeability of the nonwoven for saliva and flavors and reduces its bending stiffness.
- the WO 2016/040754 A1 discloses a method of making a bag from an embossed nonwoven fabric containing a tobacco material.
- the nonwoven fabric includes fibers based on cellulose and binding fibers.
- the higher number of different substrates makes it desirable to label the products with regard to their respective properties and to present the diversified product portfolio in an attractive manner for the customer. This would be desirable directly on the product, in addition to the conventional advertising options on packaging containing the product.
- the invention is based on the object of providing an oral tobacco pack that enables the properties of the nonwoven material to be adjusted more easily to the respective substrate.
- a method for producing the bag from a nonwoven material containing a tobacco material and/or another nicotine-containing material is to be provided.
- the task is solved by a bag according to claim 1. Furthermore, the task is solved by a method according to claim 10. Advantageous embodiments of the bag and the method are specified in the subclaims and in the following description.
- the bag according to the invention made of a nonwoven fabric contains a tobacco material and / or another nicotine-containing material, the nonwoven fabric being a chemically consolidated or a mechanically consolidated nonwoven fabric, fibers based on cellulose, a binder on the surface of the fibers, compacted zones and not or comprises compacted zones to a lesser extent and the at least partially crosslinked binder holds the compacted zones in the compacted state.
- Nonwovens suitable for snus bags e.g. made from chemically bonded fibers containing viscose
- non-woven fabrics with maximum permeability for flavors are used for snus bags. Such a material has a relatively open pore structure.
- the nonwoven material By locally pressing (embossing) the material, the nonwoven material can be compacted in one or more defined zones in a simple calendering process with an engraving roller (embossing roller) and a smooth roller, and thus the pore structure in the area of the one or more compacted zones can be more or less closed and, if necessary .occlude to a lesser extent in the less compacted zones than in the compacted zones.
- the nonwoven fabric In the zones compacted to a lesser extent, the nonwoven fabric is compacted to a lesser extent than in the compacted zones.
- the nonwoven is a textile fabric and the compacted zones are formed by compacting the nonwoven in a direction perpendicular to the two main directions of expansion of the nonwoven.
- the binder connects the fibers of the nonwoven fabric in the compacted zones and, if necessary, in the zones compacted to a lesser extent by gluing, mechanical entanglement or other interactions, whereby these zones are held or fixed in the respective compacted state.
- the fibers can be glued together by at least partially crosslinking the binder when the nonwoven is pressed together due to an increase in pressure and temperature in the compacted zones.
- the crosslinking can be brought about by an increase in the temperature of the rollers due to the heat released during pressing by the rollers and/or by targeted heat supply.
- the fibers can also be glued together by heating and cooling thermoplastic binders or by compressing pressure-sensitive binders.
- the nonwoven material is permanently compacted and kept closed in the compacted zones.
- the compacted and closed zones remain largely compacted and closed even when wet during oral use.
- they point compacted zones have a reduced permeability (passage of saliva with flavorings of the tobacco material) compared to the non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zones of the nonwoven material.
- the permeability of the nonwoven material in the compacted zones can be negligibly low.
- the permeability is not or only partially reduced by compaction of the fibers, so that the nonwoven fabric can retain its original or only partially reduced permeability there.
- the overall permeability of the nonwoven material to the starting material used can be reduced and adapted to the respective tobacco materials or tobacco substitute contained in the snus bag.
- the structure of the compacted zones and the non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zones not only can the permeability for flavors be adjusted, but also the bending stiffness, elongation, and strength can be influenced in the longitudinal and transverse directions, as well as by adjusting the three-dimensional
- the surface structure specifically models the roughness and thus the feel of the bag when it is removed from the pack and when used orally.
- the targeted adjustment of the fleece properties mentioned by locally compacting and solidifying the fleece can also be used to specifically influence the visual appearance of the fleece and thus produce visually diversified snus bags.
- the diversified properties of the nonwoven material can be adjusted in a subsequent, less complex processing step, whereby the same nonwoven material can always be used as the starting product.
- the nonwoven fabric is a chemically bonded nonwoven fabric.
- the fibers are connected to one another at contact points via a binder applied to them.
- the chemically bonded nonwoven fabric includes a chemical binder.
- the chemical binder is an at least partially crosslinkable binder. When the binder is crosslinked, long-chain molecules are formed from monomers or short-chain molecules, which can be crosslinked with one another and form a polymer.
- the compacted zones are permanently fixed in the compacted state by the same binder.
- a binder can be used in the production of the nonwoven material, which chemically crosslinks into a thermoset when drying and connects the fibers to one another at the contact points, although the crosslinking only occurs partially, so that crosslinkable components still remain.
- the pressure and temperature can be increased locally so that the binder crosslinks in the area of the embossing zones and forms a permanently compacted structure that has a certain wet strength.
- the starting material for the nonwoven material can be, for example, that from pelytex & Co. KG, Willy-Pelz-Str. 2-4, 23812 Wahlstedt under the product name Nonwoven product marketed as “Nonwova CV 29/viv” can be used. Compacted zones and non-compacted zones or zones that are not compacted to a lesser extent are produced in the starting material by local pressing (embossing).
- the nonwoven fabric is a mechanically bonded nonwoven fabric.
- the nonwoven material is mechanically consolidated by needling or by water jets.
- the mechanically bonded nonwoven is additionally provided with the binder.
- the compacted zones are permanently held in the compacted state by interactions between the binder and fibers.
- the bag has sealing seams in which overlapping areas of the nonwoven material are connected to one another by the binding agent.
- sealing seams when sealing the sealing seams, pressure and/or temperature is exerted on the areas of the nonwoven material to be connected.
- Binder of the non-woven material that has not yet bonded can be used to produce the sealing seams. These can be portions of the binder that have not yet bonded together in the compacted and/or non-compacted zones.
- the nonwoven fabric comprises fibers of one or more of the following types of cellulosic fibers: viscose fibers, lyocell fibers or cotton fibers.
- claim 1 states that the bag comprises a nonwoven fabric with compacted zones and zones that are not compacted or are compacted to a lesser extent.
- the nonwoven material of the bag comprises a plurality of compacted zones and a plurality of non-compacted zones or to a lesser extent
- the nonwoven fabric comprises several compacted zones and only a single non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zone or only a single compacted zone and several non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zones.
- the nonwoven fabric comprises a plurality of separate compacted zones within a contiguous non-compacted or compacted zone to a lesser extent.

- the compacted zones and the zones not compacted or compacted to a lesser extent are arranged in a checkerboard pattern, with the compacted zones being arranged like the dark areas and the zones not compacted or compacted to a lesser extent being arranged like the light areas of the checkerboard pattern.
- different sections of the nonwoven material have compacted and non-compacted zones or zones that are not compacted or are compacted to a lesser extent in different ways described above.
- one side of the bag is designed in a different way than the other side.
- the compacted zones and/or the non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zones have one or more of the following shapes: polygonal, circular, oval, cross-shaped, strip-shaped, wave-shaped (e.g. in the form of a sine, rectangular, Triangular or sawtooth oscillation).
- the bag has a sealing seam running in the longitudinal direction on a large side in an overlapping area of the nonwoven fabric and sealing seams running in the transverse direction on the two transverse sides in the overlapping areas of the nonwoven fabric.
- the bag can be manufactured as a tubular bag using the sealing seams running in the longitudinal and transverse directions with high output quantities.

- the air permeability is measured in accordance with EDANA standard NWS 070.1 R0.
- the air permeability is a good measure of the permeability of the nonwoven fabric because the compacted, non-compacted and, to a lesser extent, compacted zones are retained by the binder in largely the same state as when the nonwoven fabric is dry, even when the nonwoven fabric is moistened.
- a web material made from a nonwoven fabric containing fibers based on cellulose and a binder moves between a rotatable gravure roller with one or more elevations on the outer circumference and a rotatable smooth roller, the gravure roller and the smooth roller are pressed against the web material from different sides and run in Circumferential direction on the web material, wherein the web material between the gravure roller and the smooth roller is compacted in zones by the one or more elevations, the web material between the areas of the gravure roller and the smooth roller that do not have elevations is not compacted in zones or is compacted to a lesser extent and in the compacted zones, the fibers of the web material are bonded together in the compacted state by the binder, and pouches are formed from portions of the tobacco material and/or other nicotine-
- the gravure roller and the smooth roller are rollers of a calender with which the nonwoven fabric is provided with compacted and non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zones.
- the gravure roller and the smooth roller are pressed against the web material from different sides with their axes of rotation in the same plane in order to provide it with compacted zones and non-compacted or to a lesser extent compacted zones.

- the method according to the invention is suitable for producing bags according to one of claims 1 to 9 or one of the previously described embodiments.
- the gravure roller and the smooth roller run on the web material in the direction of travel of the web material without relative movement to one another. This prevents the web material from being torn due to relative speed in the surfaces of the rollers.
- the engraving roller and/or the smooth roller are driven.
- the gravure roller and the smooth roller are preferably driven in order to avoid relative movements between the surfaces of the rollers in the direction of travel of the web material.
- the engraving roller has a replaceable embossing sleeve with one or more elevations on the outer circumference.
- the desired material properties such as permeability, flexural rigidity, roughness, elongation, strength, feel and visual appearance can be adjusted with relatively little effort when using a uniform nonwoven material as the starting material. This allows for easy product diversification using an appropriate standard nonwoven.
- portions of the tobacco material and/or another nicotine-containing material are placed on the web material, the web material is folded above the portions, a sealing seam running in the longitudinal direction is introduced into mutually overlapping edge regions of the web material, are in mutually overlapping regions of the web material on both sides transversely directed sealing seams are introduced into each portion of the tobacco material and/or another nicotine-containing material and the web material is separated into individual bags within the transversely directed sealing seams. This makes it possible to produce the bags as tubular bags at high speed.
- a snus bag 1 includes a bag 2 made of a nonwoven fabric 3, in which a small amount of tobacco material 4 and / or another nicotine-containing material is arranged.
- the nonwoven fabric 3 is made from viscose fibers.
- the bag 2 is designed as a tubular bag.
- a strip made of the nonwoven material 3 is folded over one another at the longitudinal edges and connected to one another by a longitudinal sealing seam 5.
- the tobacco material 4 is, for example, snus.
- the two transverse edges of the bag 2 are connected to one another by transverse sealing seams 6, 7.
- the snus bag 1 When using it, the snus bag 1 is placed behind the lower lip and the upper lip. Saliva from the oral cavity penetrates and dissolves nicotine and other flavors from the tobacco material 4.
- Fig. 3 shows a greatly enlarged photograph of a nonwoven fabric 3 for producing the bag 2 according to Fig. 1 and 2 .
- the nonwoven fabric 3 has a large number of separate compacted zones 8 within a contiguous, non-compacted zone 9, which are embossed by means of a calender with a gravure roller and a smooth roller.
- the engraving roller has elevations with a hexagonal or honeycomb-shaped cross section.
- the nonwoven fabric 3 is a chemically bonded nonwoven fabric in which the viscose fibers are provided with a binder that is chemically cross-linked to form a thermoset when dried. When imprinting the compacted zones 8, portions of the binder that have not yet been crosslinked are crosslinked in the compacted zones 8, so that the crosslinked binder holds the compacted zones 8 in the compacted state.
- the fibers 10 lie closely together and the areas between the fibers are at least partially closed by binders 11, so that the permeability of the nonwoven fabric 3 for flavors in the compacted zones 8 is greatly reduced or negligible.
- the nonwoven fabric 3 has its original structure and permeability. The overall permeability of the nonwoven fabric 3 is thus determined jointly by the compacted zones 8 and the non-compacted zone 9.
- the permeability of the nonwoven material 3 of the snus bag 1 can be tailored to the respective tobacco material 4 by means of the selected embossed structure.
- the same nonwoven material 3 can always be used, which is provided with an individual embossing depending on the tobacco material 4.
- Different embossing cylinders can be used for this, with which the engraving cylinder of the calender is equipped.
- a nonwoven fabric 3 can be provided with compacted and non-compacted zones in such a way that it has a plurality of separate compacted zones 8 and a contiguous non-compacted zone 9. This is also the case with the nonwoven fabric 3 of Fig. 3 the case.
- a nonwoven fabric can be provided with compacted and non-compacted zones in such a way that it has a plurality of separate non-compacted zones 9 within a contiguous compacted zone 8.
- the compacted or non-compacted zones can have different geometries, in particular polygonal ones ( Fig. 7a ), circular ( Fig. 7b ), oval ( Fig. 7c ), cruciform ( Fig. 7d ), linear ( Fig. 7e ) or wavy ( Fig. 7f ) geometries.
- the following tables show measurements of strength, elongation and stiffness in the machine direction and transversely, as well as static friction forces, static friction coefficients, sealing strengths, sliding friction forces and sliding friction coefficients as well as air permeability for a conventional nonwoven fabric (standard) and one provided according to the invention with compacted and non-compacted zones
- Non-woven fabric (embossed pattern) stated at 29 gsm each.
- the embossing pattern is the one in Fig. 3 non-woven fabric shown.
- the standard measurement methods used are shown in the tables.
- the embossed sample has lower MD and CD strengths than the standard. Furthermore, the embossed pattern has lower elongations MD and CD than the standard. This is due to the fact that when embossing the embossing pattern Bonds of the chemically bonded nonwoven are destroyed and this is only partially compensated for by the crosslinking of binder in the compressed zones.
- the embossed pattern has greater static friction and sliding friction forces than the standard. This is due to the increased structuring of the surface caused by the impressions.
