  • the inner components and the manner in which the lower and upper plastic rails are attached using cable system b are much the same as is described in conjunction with intermediate post 704c as shown in FIG. 10 .
  • One difference is that rather than having a U-shaped holder 730 with a flange 732, cable system 795 b attaches to inner post 750 of corner post 704 bb using an L-shaped holder 782.

  • protective barriers 600, 700 provide two levels of impact absorption.
  • a first level of impact absorption is provided for less forceful impacts on the lower rail (e.g., a fork truck bumping into the rail), where the lower rail flexes to absorb the impact without the cable system being engaged and then returns to its original state after the impact.
  • a second level of impact absorption is provided for impacts of greater force on the lower rail (e.g., a fork truck driving at full speed into the lower rail), where the lower rail flexes to absorb the impact and then makes contact with the cable system.
  • the cable systems for each protective barrier provide additional strength to receive the impact without allowing a breach of the barrier.
  • the bracket is an integral part of the rounded metallic end cap (e.g., the bracket and end cap are sand cast as a single integral part).
  • the cable system limits a maximum deflection of the plastic bumper rail.
  • the rounded metallic end caps may be configured to retain the ends of the plastic bumper rail in their openings when the maximum deflection is reached (i.e., the plastic bumper rail does not 'pop out' of the rounded metallic end caps).
  • the cable system described above includes a braided steel cable. It is noted, however that other types of cables such as nylon cables, elastomer cables, solid steel (or other metal) cables, plastic cables, or any other suitable cable material can be used.
  • the plastic bumper rail described above includes ribs. It is noted, however that other embodiments of the plastic bumper rail do not include ribs.
  • the pins describe herein are metallic pins. In other examples, the pins are plastic pins.
  • the opposite ends of the cable are fastened to the brackets using "shackles” such as the shackle 856 shown in FIG. 8 .
  • the shackles 856 are attached to the ends of the cable and interact with receiving openings in the brackets to attach the cable to the brackets.
  • the cable system is described above in the context of one exemplary barrier.

Claims (13)

  1. Schutzabsperrung (100), umfassend:
    ein erstes Endstück (104), das dazu ausgelegt ist, durch ein erstes Verankerungselement (366) an einer Oberfläche verankert und gesichert zu werden,
    ein zweites Endstück (104), das dazu ausgelegt ist, durch ein zweites Verankerungselement (366) an der Oberfläche verankert und gesichert zu werden,
    eine Schiene (102), die sich zwischen dem ersten Endstück (104) und dem zweiten Endstück (104) erstreckt, wobei die Schiene (102) ein erstes Ende (103), das mit dem ersten Endstück (104) mechanisch gekoppelt (122) ist, und ein zweites Ende (103), das mit dem zweiten Endstück (104) mechanisch gekoppelt (122) ist, aufweist,
    einen ersten Bügel (254a), der mit dem ersten Verankerungselement (366) gekoppelt ist und eine erste Verbindungsoberfläche (260) aufweist,
    einen zweiten Bügel (254b), der mit dem zweiten Verankerungselement (366) gekoppelt ist und eine zweite Verbindungsoberfläche (260) aufweist, und gekennzeichnet durch
    ein Kabel (252), das sich durch die Schiene (102) erstreckt und ein erstes Ende (256), das an dem ersten Bügel (254a) angebracht ist, und ein zweites Ende (256), das an dem zweiten Bügel (254b) angebracht ist, aufweist,
    wobei die Schutzabsperrung (100) eine erste Stufe der Aufpralldämpfung, auf der die Schiene (102) eine Aufprallkraft ohne Beteiligung des Kabels (252) dämpft, und eine zweite Stufe der Aufpralldämpfung, auf der die Schiene (102) und das Kabel (252) eine Aufprallkraft dämpfen, aufweist.
  2. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das erste Endstück (104) eine erste Öffnung (122) enthält und das zweite Endstück (104) eine zweite Öffnung (122) enthält, wobei sich das Kabel (252) durch die erste Öffnung (122) und die zweite Öffnung (122) erstreckt.
  3. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das erste Ende des Kabels einen ersten Haken (256) zum Befestigen des ersten Endes des Kabels (252) an dem ersten Bügel (254a) enthält und das zweite Ende des Kabels (252) einen zweiten Haken (256) zum Befestigen des zweiten Endes des Kabels (252) an dem zweiten Bügel (254b) enthält.
  4. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das erste Verankerungselement (364) ein stoßdämpfendes Verankerungselement (370) ist und das zweite Verankerungselement (364) ein stoßdämpfendes Verankerungselement (370) ist.
  5. Schutzabsperrung nach Anspruch 1, wobei der erste Bügel (254a) einen Teil einer ersten verankerungsdämpfenden Baugruppe (364) bildet und das zweite Befestigungsmittel (254b) einen Teil der zweiten dämpfenden Baugruppe (364) bildet.
  6. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Kabel (252) ein geflochtenes Stahlkabel oder ein Nylon-Kabel ist.
  7. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Schiene (102) aus einem Kunststoffmaterial gebildet ist oder wobei die Schiene (102) einen entlang ihrer Länge verlaufenden Hohlraum aufweist.
  8. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 7, wobei sich das Kabel (252) durch den entlang der Länge der Schiene (102) verlaufenden Hohlraum erstreckt.
  9. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das erste Ende des Kabels (252) durch Schweißen an dem ersten Bügel (254a) befestigt ist und das zweite Ende des Kabels (252) durch Schweißen an dem zweiten Bügel (254b) befestigt ist.
  10. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei
    das erste Verankerungselement (366) und der erste Bügel (254a) im Inneren des ersten Endstücks (122) angeordnet sind, und
    das zweite Verankerungselement (366) und der zweite Bügel (254b) im Inneren des zweiten Endstücks (122) angeordnet sind.
  11. Schutzabsperrung (100) nach Anspruch 1, wobei das erste Ende des Kabels (252) ein erstes Anbringungselement, das mit dem ersten Bügel (254a) gekoppelt ist, enthält und das zweite Ende des Kabels ein zweites Anbringungselement, das mit dem zweiten Bügel (254b) gekoppelt ist, enthält.
  12. Schutzabsperrung (600) nach Anspruch 1, ferner umfassend einen ersten Stift (644a), der das erste Anbringungselement mit dem ersten Bügel (254a) koppelt, und einen zweiten Stift (644b), der das zweite Anbringungselement mit dem zweiten Bügel (254b) koppelt.
  13. Schutzabsperrung (600) nach Anspruch 12, wobei der erste Bügel einen ersten Ösenhaken (681a) enthält, der zweite Bügel einen zweiten Ösenhaken (681b) enthält, das erste Anbringungselement eine erste Kabelschlaufe (697a) enthält und das zweite Anbringungselement eine zweite Kabelschlaufe (697b) enthält, wobei sich der erste Stift (644a) durch den ersten Ösenhaken (681a) und die erste Kabelschlaufe erstreckt und sich der zweite Stift (644b) durch den zweiten Ösenhaken (681b) und die zweite Kabelschlaufe (697b) erstreckt.
