Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a banknote or value drawer for banknotes or values, in particular a drawer for Bancomat, ATMs and similar of the type specified in the preamble to the first claim.
  • US 2015/0191960 A1 discloses a banknote drawer with active marking capabilities.
  • a break in sensor detects a break-in attempt and activates a plurality of gas generators to rupture containing marking fluid in order to spoil banknotes.
  • banknote drawers are arranged vertically, which makes it difficult to invalidate the banknotes they contain.
  • the technical task at the basis of the present invention is to devise a banknote drawer for banknotes or values capable of substantially obviating at least part of the aforementioned drawbacks.
  • the measurements, values, shapes and geometric references (such as perpendicularity and parallelism), when associated with words like "about” or other similar terms such as “approximately” or “substantially”, are to be considered as except for measurement errors or inaccuracies due to production and/or manufacturing errors, and, above all, except for a slight divergence from the value, measurements, shape, or geometric reference with which it is associated.
  • these terms if associated with a value, preferably indicate a divergence of not more than 10% of the value.
  • banknote drawer for banknotes or values according to the invention is globally referred to as number 1 .
  • the banknote drawer 1 preferably comprises a drawerfor ATM or bancomat and similar 50 , hereinafter simply referred to as ATM 50. It is suitable for holding banknotes 55 .
  • the ATM 50 comprises a safe 51 , suitable for holding the banknotes 55, and a dispensing system 52 , suitable for dispensing the banknotes 55 to authorised users.
  • the safe 51 in turn, preferably comprises within it a rack 53 , integral with the safe 51, and preferably suitable for holding at least one of said banknote drawers 1 and enabling proper operation.
  • the banknote drawer 1 defines an inner volume 1c for said banknotes and values.
  • the latter are preferably arranged in the same inner volume 1c and occupy, in normal section, most of the inner volume 1c.
  • the banknote drawer 1 comprises boundary walls in relation to the size of the banknotes 55.
  • the banknote drawers 1 include a base 1a , on which the banknotes 55 preferably rest, the base 1a, in use, may also be placed vertically or in other positions.
  • the banknote drawer 1 also comprises an outer wall 1b , preferably opposite and parallel to said base 1a, thus for example comprising the upper wall. Said boundary walls thus define the inner volume 1c to the banknote drawer 1.
  • the outer wall 1b may alternatively be arranged laterally or also at the base or otherwise. Further, suitably, the outer wall 1b is a peripheral wall of the banknote drawer 1, i.e. a wall bordering the environment outside the inner volume 1c of the banknote drawer 1. More preferably, the upper wall 1b forms part of the lid 10 of the banknote drawer 1.
  • the security containers 1 further have a suitably substantially parallelepiped shape. They further comprise a front wall 1d , which is the wall of the drawer that remains exposed after the drawer is closed.
  • the front wall 1d comprises a handle.
  • banknotes 55 and values are suitable to be accommodated within the container drawers 1 on the base 1a.
  • the container drawers 1 preferably comprise at least one first container 2 suitable for holding marking fluid and defining an inner volume 28 .
  • Each first container 2 is preferably housed, or defined, within a container drawer 1 at, and preferably in contact with, the outer wall 1b. Moreover, said outer wall 1b may also structurally constitute part of the first container 2.
  • Each first container 2 is therefore preferably arranged in close proximity to the banknotes and values 55 appropriately above them.
  • each banknote holder 1 comprises one or two first containers 2 parallel to and substantially arranged above the banknotes.
  • Each first container 2 comprising, suitably, an internal portion 2a facing the banknotes or values.
  • the internal portion 2a is preferably at least partially rigid. It is also, preferably, fluid-permeable at least in the portion facing the banknotes and values. In particular, it may comprise metal or polymeric sheets comprising holes and openings. The internal portion 2a may further comprise cutting elements for the second container 22 described below.
  • the banknote drawer 1 further comprises, preferably, a second container 22 for marking fluid, which is fluid-tight and contained in said first container 2.
  • Said second container 22 is preferably of a yielding type and easily breakable in the event of explosion pressurisation or the like. It may be, for example, made of one or more membranes of low mechanical strength, for example made of Polyethylene and of a thickness in the order of magnitude of tenths of a millimetre or otherwise. Portions or the entirety of the second container 22 may be integrated and in one piece with the perimeter walls of the drawer 1 and/or the first container 2.
  • the second container 22 may be divided into several main portions 22a , preferably longitudinal. Said main portions 22a are preferably in mutual fluid passage connection.
  • the main portions 22a are also preferably reciprocally connected, in fluid passage connection, by passage portions 22b , of the same container.
  • Said passage portions 22b preferably have a smaller passage cross-section, for example 80%-90%, than the cross-sections within the main portions 22a.
  • the passage portions 22b are preferably defined by passage reducers 22c internal to the second container 22.
  • the passage reducers 22c may simply comprise welds internal to the second container 22 between two opposite flaps, as illustrated in Fig. 4 .
  • the internal portion 2a of the at least one first container 2 may comprise lower weakened portions (not illustrated and for example similar to the upper weakened portions 20a described and illustrated below), placed close to or adhering to the banknotes, capable of opening in the event of an explosion.
  • each first container 2 comprises an outer portion 2b suitable for separating the inner volume 28 of the first container 2 from the outer volume thereof.
  • the outer portion 2b is preferably arranged facing the outer wall 1b of the container drawer or integrated into the structure of the container drawer 1 itself, so that the two walls are structurally a single element.
  • the outer portion 2b is therefore preferably placed, in use, at the top of the container drawer 1, generally formed by the lid 10, or, alternatively, could be placed at a side wall.
  • the lid 10, in use could also be placed vertically.
  • the outer portion 2b and the outer wall 1b together define a separating wall 20, i.e. a wall suitable for separating the inner volume 28 of the first container 2 from a volume outside the drawer 1.
  • the separating wall 20, may therefore comprise two walls 2b and 1b which are substantially parallel and preferably arranged very close together, or a single wall ideally constituting one wall of both the first container 2 and the drawer 1.
  • the separating wall 20 comprises passageway windows or weakened outer portions 20a .
  • the outer weakened portions 20a may therefore be through holes, in both the outer portion 2b and the outer wall 1b or in the single wall constituting both.
  • they may be mechanical lightnings constituted by millings, or portions made of different materials such as glass, plastic, silicone and similar, or through holes covered with a lower strength material, for example an adhesive tape 24 made of polymeric material or paper, or polyethylene or the like.
  • a lower strength material for example an adhesive tape 24 made of polymeric material or paper, or polyethylene or the like.
  • the outer weakened portions 20a when pressurized, break, by their very nature, during explosions and similar, so that the shock wave of the explosion directly pressurizes the marking fluid present inside the first container 2 without delay and need for sensors and similar.
  • the upper weakened portions 20a are preferably present along the entire extent of the first container 2, which, preferably, in turn extends along the entire length of the first container 2.
  • They also preferably comprise circular holes comprising a solid element in the centre connected to the edges of the hole by means of spokes, in particular three or four in number.
  • each first container 2 comprises said weakened outer portions 20a.
  • each first container 2 has a prismatic shape, more preferably a parallelepiped shape.
  • the banknote drawer 1 may further comprise break-in sensors means 6 suitable for detecting break-in attempts.
  • the latter are per se known and preferably comprise one or more of the following sensors: of tilt, accelerometers, tilt sensors, temperature sensors, gas sensors and similar. Said sensors 6 are known to the technician in the field of security systems for ATMs and similar.
  • the banknote drawer 1 further preferably comprises active break-in means 4 of the second container 22 suitable for breaking or opening the same second container 22 so as to force the outflow of said marking liquid.
  • the term active means it is meant, according to ordinary language, that the marking does not take place unless appropriate means are present.
  • the marking described above is passive, because it is carried out by breaking of the first containers 2 which occurs mechanically during the action of explosive substances without the use of electrical sensors or actuators.
  • the breakage used by the means 4 occurs, in fact, suitably exclusively in the event of alarm detection by said break-in sensors 6.
  • the active break-in means 4 preferably comprise gas generators 40 , preferably gas generators of a pyrotechnic type, capable of generating gas when activated by electrical current.
  • Said gas generators 40 preferably, develop a volume in a few milliseconds and when activated (example: they develop 3 cm 3 of gas in 2 ms with a pressure of 3 MPa, they are for example similar to the devices used to rapidly inflate air-bags in cars), press the second container 22 against the lower portion 2a so as to directly open, due to the air displacement, the second container 22 and project the marking ink onto the banknotes 55.
  • a plurality of gas generators 40 are present along the second container 22. More preferably at least one gas generator 40, and more preferably still only one, is present for each main portion 22a.
  • the gas generators 40 are preferably bound to a control board 43 , for example made of Vetronite or other.
  • the control board 43 preferably is an electronic board containing control electronics 41 , ( Fig. 5 ), suitable for controlling the gas generators 40.
  • the active break-in means 4 further preferably comprise an electrical battery 42 , located near the control board 43, preferably at one side thereof, more preferably near the front wall 1d and more preferably also near the top wall 1b ( Fig. 5 ).
  • the control electronics 41 preferably comprise a microprocessor and electrical connections to the one or more break-in sensor means 6, which are preferably provided on board the control board 43 itself and integrated into the control electronics 41.
  • break-in sensor means 6 may be arranged in other portions of the ATM and electrically connected to them by means of electrical connections that are resolvable in their own right.
  • control electronics 41 are configured to provide, on command, electrical current in sequence to each of the individual gas generators 40, so as to sequentially activate each of the individual gas generators 40 in the most convenient manner.
  • each of the gas generating devices 40 is kept short-circuited with a safety fuse 44 , of the sacrificial type, in such a way that the current reaches the gas generators 40 only if the circuit is crossed by electric currents of intensities greater than the intensity of an activation electric current established by said safety fuse 44, that is, only after the latter has been interrupted.
  • the electric current if it is less than the electrical trigger current, for example if caused by eddy currents or similar, passes exclusively along the fuse lines 44 and does not activate the gas generators 40. If, on the other hand, the electrical current is greater than or equal to the activation current, because it is properly sent by the battery 42, it breaks the fuses and activates the gas generators 40.
  • the sequence is determined in such a way that, when the second container 22 is placed vertically, the gas generators 40 in the lowest part, where the marking ink is most present, are activated first, and, in succession, on the generator 40 immediately above, until all the generators 40 are activated or vice versa.
  • the ink is partially projected onto the banknotes and partially moved to the upper portion of the second container 22, so that the entire length of the stack of banknotes 55 and the second container 22 is affected by the presence of marking ink and its projection onto the banknotes 55, even when the second containers are placed vertically or in other positions.
  • an interruption system 7 for not activating the active break-in means 4 in case the drawer 1 is not inserted into the rack 53 in the closed position.
  • Such an interruption system 7 comprises, for example, a magnetic switch 7a , or an electromechanical switch, placed partly on the rack 53 and partly in the individual drawers. It may be suitable to allow activation only if the magnetic element (permanent magnet, ferromagnet or electromagnet) present in the drawer 1 senses that present in the rack 53 and this preferably occurs only in the closed position.
  • the interruption system may comprise a magnetic switch.
  • the interruption system 7 deactivates the active break-in means 4, preventing unwanted activations.
  • the active break-in means 4 operate regularly, together with the other systems, when the banknote drawer 1 is in the closed position.
  • the ATM 50 on which the banknote drawer 1 is installed is therefore used in a known manner and the drawers are loaded and used in a traditional manner.
  • the pressure wave passes through the weakened portions 20a or holes, easily breaking them or passing through them.
  • the shock wave of the explosion then immediately reaches the second containers 22 breaking them against the internal portion 2a of the first containers 2.
  • the marking liquid is then projected onto the banknotes and values, marking them.
  • the burglary sensor means 6 and in particular the inclination sensors activate the active breaking means 4.
  • the latter activate in sequence and from bottom to top, as previously described, the gas generators 40, which in turn break or open the second container 22 in an advantageous and homogeneous manner marking all the banknotes, as previously described.
  • the marking liquid is partly distributed along the different main portions 22a of the second container 22 and partly transferred, due to pressurisation and similar, between the different main portions 22a, and partly instead remains temporarily confined in the different individual main portions 22a due to the passage portions 22b having reduced passageways.
  • the banknote drawer 1 according to the invention achieves important advantages.
  • the various security means allow the same single drawer to mark the banknotes 55 making them unusable following any known type of break-in: with explosives or by removing the entire safe 51.
  • the other elements, and in particular, the second container 22 subdivided into main portions 22a and the sequential activation from bottom to top, also improve the effectiveness of the drawer 1.
