It is the object of the present invention to create a roof antenna for vehicles that can be produced particularly cost-effectively, can be mounted in a simple manner and is non-destructive and easy to dismantle.

This problem is solved by the features of claim 1 and in particular by a roof antenna with a cover, which is connected to a base plate via a latching device which includes several latching hooks, which engage behind resilient latching tabs. Furthermore, recesses are provided in the base plate in the area of the locking device, which enable a tool to engage to release the rear grip. The base plate is made of metal and the locking hooks are integrally formed on the base plate. Furthermore, the cover is made of plastic and the locking tabs are integrally formed inside the cover. The locking tabs form a cutting edge at their front end. Antenna elements can be attached to the base plate.

The roof antenna according to the invention can be manufactured very cost-effectively and installed in a simple manner by locking the cover with the base plate via the latching device. If repair or replacement of the roof antenna is required, the base plate and cover can be easily separated again by inserting a tool into the recesses to release the rear grip between the locking hooks and locking tabs.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention are described in the description, the drawing and the subclaims.

According to the invention, the base plate is made of metal, with the locking hooks being integrally formed on the base plate. On the one hand, this results in a very stable construction, which, on the other hand, simultaneously forms a shield towards the interior of the vehicle.

According to the invention, the cover is made of plastic, with the locking tabs being integrally formed inside the cover. This results in The entire cover has an attractive exterior and the base plate can be arranged inside the cover or surrounded by it on its outer circumference. At the same time, the locking device is protected inside the cover.

According to the invention, the locking tabs are shaped in such a way that they form a cutting edge at their front end. Such a pointed design of the front end of the latching tabs makes it particularly easy to insert a tool behind the latching tab in order to release the rear grip with the latching hook.

According to a further advantageous embodiment, support ribs can be provided in the interior of the cover next to the locking tabs, which thus provide stable support for the base plate in the area of the locking device, whereby a particularly strong locking connection is achieved.

According to a further advantageous embodiment, the locking tabs can be arranged evenly distributed over the circumference of the cover, so that it is firmly connected to the base plate or the vehicle roof over its entire circumference.

According to a further advantageous embodiment, a circumferential seal can be provided between the base plate and the cover, which can be pressed sealingly against the vehicle roof in order to prevent moisture from penetrating into the vehicle interior and into the interior of the roof antenna. In this case, openings that are closed on all sides can be provided in the seal, which are in particular wider than a locking hook. In this way, a tool can be passed through the recesses in the base plate as well as through the openings in the seal in order to release the rear grip between the locking tab and the locking hook.

According to a further aspect of the present invention, a tool is provided for releasing the rear grip, which is adapted to the locking tabs. For this purpose, the locking tabs have two legs and a crossbar connecting them and the tool has two blades spaced apart from the legs in order to release the legs of the locking tab from the locking connection if necessary. The tool can also have a stop between the two blades, which strikes the crossbar when the tool is inserted.

According to a further aspect of the present invention, this relates to a method for mounting a roof antenna of the type described above, wherein the cover is placed on the opening of a vehicle roof from above and the base plate is placed on the opening from below and the base plate and cover with the latching device are thus connected to each other be connected so that the vehicle roof is clamped between the cover and the base plate.

The roof antenna according to the invention can be mounted without tools, with the seal simultaneously achieving tolerance compensation between the cover and the base plate. This ensures freedom from play and rattling. If there are recesses in the base plate, the locking hooks can also be checked to ensure that they are properly locked. Finally, the cover and base plate can be easily replaced and reused, as the locking device can be released non-destructively using a tool.

Fig. 1 shows an exploded view of a roof antenna for a vehicle with a cover 10, which can be connected to a base plate 12 via a locking device in such a way that the cover 10 is placed from above and the base plate 12 from below onto an opening in a vehicle roof and with the locking device can be connected to each other so that the vehicle roof is clamped between the cover 10 and the base plate 12. Here, for sealing and tolerance compensation, a circumferential flexible seal 14 is provided, which is placed on the base plate 12 before assembly and which is pressed against the underside of the vehicle roof after assembly.

Fig. 3).The base plate 12 is made of metal and is used to attach various electronic components and antennas that are not shown in the figures. In contrast, the cover 10 is made of plastic and is contoured on its underside in such a way that the outer contour of the cover 10 essentially corresponds to the outer contour of the base plate 12 (cf. Fig. 3 ).

The locking device for connecting the cover 10 and base plate 12 includes, on the one hand, locking hooks 16, which are integrally formed on the base plate. On the other hand, inside the cover, resilient locking tabs 18 are formed along its circumference at essentially equal intervals, which are gripped behind by the locking hooks 16 in the assembled state.

Each locking tab 18 has two legs 20 and 22, which are connected to one another at their outer ends via a crossbar 24. Here, the crossbar 24 is tapered, so that each locking tab 18 forms a cutting edge at its front end in order to make it easier to insert a tool to release the rear grip. 10 further illustrates, in the interior of the cover 10, in particular next to the locking tabs 18, several support ribs 26 are provided, which on the one hand stiffen the outer wall of the cover 10, but on the other hand also serve to provide a support for the base plate 12, especially in the area of the locking connections to form in order to achieve a stable connection between the cover 10 and the base plate 12.

How Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 show, recesses 30 and 32 are provided on the base plate 12 in the area of the latching hooks 16, which enable a tool to engage to release the rear grip between the latching hook 16 and the latching tab 18. Here, the recesses 30 are provided in the area of the locking hooks 16 on the outer circumference of the base plate 12 and open towards the outer edge, while the recesses 32 at the front and rear ends of the base plate 12 are closed on all sides. All recesses 30 and 32 have a width that corresponds approximately to the distance between the two legs 20 and 22 or the width of the crossbar 24, so that a tool can be inserted through the recesses which resiliently bends the legs 20 and 22 back in order to Release the rear grip between the locking hook 16 and the locking tab 18.

So that a tool can be passed through the seal 14 without any problems, openings 34 that are closed on all sides are provided in the seal in the area of the locking hooks, through which a locking hook 16 and a tool can extend.

Fig. 3). To mount the roof antenna described above on a vehicle roof, the seal 14 is first placed on the base plate 12, whereby the locking hooks 16 extend through the openings 34. The cover 10 is then placed from above onto an opening in the vehicle roof, so that the unit consisting of base plate 12 and seal 14 can be inserted into the cover 10 from below and the locking hooks 16 engage behind the resilient locking tabs 18 (cf. Fig. 3 ). If the roof antenna is to be detached from the vehicle again for repair or replacement, a tool 40 can be inserted into the recesses 30, 32 in the base plate 12, as shown purely by way of example Fig. 4 is shown. The tool 40 is made of a small metal plate which comprises two blades 46 and 48 provided at one end of a web 42 and 44, the two blades 46 and 48 or the two webs 42 and 44 being at a distance from the legs 20 and 22 of the Locking tabs 18 are spaced apart. This allows the tool 40 to be inserted from the underside of the base plate 12 with the blades 46 and 48 between the crossbar 24 and the base plate 12 in such a way that the locking tab 18 is bent and the rear grip with the locking hook 16 is released. If a tool 40 is inserted into all or almost all of the recesses 30 and 32, the base plate 12 can be removed from the cover 10 without being destroyed. It goes without saying that only a single tool can be provided, which engages in all or almost all of the recesses 30 and 32 at the same time.
