Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method of manufacturing decorative parts. It relates more particularly to a method of manufacturing a decorative part comprising a conductive aesthetic element inlaid in a support made of a non-electrically conductive material.
  • the manufacturing process includes, following the inlay step, a step of electrochemical surface treatment of the inlaid elements.
  • EP 2 315 673 Another process described in the document EP 2 315 673 consists of inlaying the aesthetic elements by pressing into recesses made in the support.
  • This document describes more particularly a method of inlaying by hot pressing an aesthetic element made of amorphous metallic material within a ceramic support to form, for example, indices on a watch bezel.
  • This process has the advantage of being simple to carry out, very reproducible and compatible with the majority of supports. Inlaying different materials allows you to combine several colors and finishes. However, the cost of such parts is extremely high and the termination is often determined by the material used with a matte finish for materials such as rubber and a satin finish for metals. In addition, the achievable color palette is often limited or requires a very long development time. CH699993 represents another relevant document of the state of the art.
  • the object of the present invention is to propose a new process for manufacturing a decorative piece making it possible to broaden the range of colors and finishes achievable while reducing the manufacturing cost.
  • the present invention proposes a manufacturing process combining the advantages of the inlay process by pressing an element within a support with the advantages of electrochemical surface treatment making it possible to modulate the colors and achievable terminations and to form a protective layer on the inlaid element.
  • the present invention relates more particularly to the inlay of conductive elements within supports made of an electrically non-conductive material such as ceramic. Therefore, the inventive character of the invention lies in the production of non-visible but accessible contact points on the support to bring the current to each inlaid element.
  • the support comprises at least one recess intended to be filled by inlay with an aesthetic element, said at least hollowing opens in one or more places on a face of the part intended to be invisible, to respectively form one or more contact points making it possible to route current during the surface treatment on the aesthetic element. Thanks to these non-visible contact points, it is possible to supply current to fine and numerous decorations such as on a tachymeter scale of a watch bezel. Depending on the treatment, a wide range of colors and even color gradients can be obtained on these decorations. These contact points make it possible to carry out the same electrochemical treatment for each decoration or possibly to combine different treatments by bringing the current to only one or more of the decorations for each electrochemical treatment.
  • This electrochemical treatment is carried out on the inlaid decorations in their final surface state: polished, satin, sandblasted and therefore at the end of the manufacturing process.
  • the present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a decorative part comprising a step of inlaying by hot pressing one or more aesthetic elements in a support provided with one or more recesses and comprising a surface treatment step electrochemically of said aesthetic elements. It also relates to the decorative piece resulting from the process.
  • the part may in particular be a watchmaking component such as a bezel, a dial, a case, a crown, a pusher, a crystal, a bracelet element, etc.
  • part 1 is a watch bezel comprising an annular body forming the support 2 provided with recesses 4 made in said support 2 to receive the aesthetic elements 3 forming the indices.
  • part 1 is a watch case middle 5 provided with two recesses 4 each inlaid with an aesthetic element 3 set with stones 6.
  • the support is made of an electrically non-conductive material such as ceramic, enamel, sapphire, etc.
  • the aesthetic element is made from an electrically conductive material such as a crystalline or amorphous metal alloy.
  • a crystalline or amorphous metal alloy may be an alloy of aluminum, titanium or even precious metals such as gold alloys or platinum alloys.
  • the part may consist of a zirconia watch bezel with indices made from a crystalline aluminum alloy.
  • the support 2 includes at least one recess 4 produced by laser engraving, by machining, etc.
  • the recess 4 presents on the surface 2a of the support 2 intended to be visible a shape 4a corresponding to the contour of the desired decoration ( fig.2 ).
  • at least one of the recesses opens onto a non-visible face 2b of the support 2.
  • the entire volume of the recess 4 is filled with the aesthetic element 3 projecting or flush with the surface 2a of the support 2.
  • the aesthetic element it is also possible for the aesthetic element to only partially fill the volume of the recess.
  • the aesthetic elements are inlaid by hot pressing into the recesses of the support.
  • the pressing temperature varies depending on the material embedded.
  • the inlay is carried out at a temperature between the solidus temperature and the liquidus temperature of the alloy constituting the aesthetic element.
  • the incrustation is carried out at a temperature between the glass transition temperature Tg and the crystallization temperature Tx of the alloy.
  • the pressure is adapted depending on the material.
  • the applied load can be between 300 and 1000 kg.
  • the inlay takes place in a manner similar to what is described in the document EP 2 315 673 .
  • the inlay steps of the manufacturing process according to the invention are illustrated schematically using the figures 3 to 5 .
  • the support 2 provided with the one or more recesses 4 as well as the preform(s) intended to form the aesthetic element(s) 3 are made available ( fig.3 ).
  • the aesthetic element to be inlaid is in the form of an annular preform with a diameter and a ring width of dimensions substantially equivalent to those of the indices.
  • the preform 3 is placed on the surface 2a of the support 2 at the level of the recess 4.
  • the assembly is placed in a press and the inlay under a pressure P is carried out in the above-mentioned temperature ranges where the material is softened ( fig.4 ).
  • the step of embedding the alloy in the recesses is then followed by a cooling step and a possible step of mechanical grinding of the upper surface 2a and the aesthetic element 3 such as polishing allowing 'remove the excess of aesthetic element 3 ( fig.5 ) and create visible surfaces of the support and the aesthetic element connected to each other without any break in continuity.
  • This finishing treatment consists of a selective electrochemical treatment of the encrusted metallic material aimed at modifying the appearance and/or hardness of this material. This may involve anodizing with or without coloring, the deposition of a precious metal such as silver, gold, rhodium, platinum, etc. It is thus possible to inlay an aluminum alloy at a lower cost then make it hard with anodizing or even to inlay a conductive material at a lower cost then produce a plating of precious metals.
  • the supports covered by the present invention being electrically non-conductive, the difficulty lies in routing the current to the aesthetic elements during the electrochemical treatment and, this, via contact points which must absolutely not be visible on the decorative piece.
  • one or more of the recesses are configured to open onto a side intended not to be visible from the decorative piece. These recesses opening onto the non-visible side form contact points allowing the current to be brought to the inlaid aesthetic elements.
  • the recess 4 for each of the indices opens onto the rear face 2b of the bezel 1 as illustrated in figure 2 .
  • the contact points 4b make it possible to bring the current to each of the indices during the electrochemical treatment.
  • These contact points 4b on the rear face 2b of the support 2 can have a section which is smaller than that of the part 4a of the recess opening onto the visible face 2a of the support 2. These contact points make it possible to carry out the same electrochemical treatment for each index or possibly to combine different treatments by bringing the current to only one or more of the indices for each electrochemical treatment.
  • the aesthetic element 3 is larger in size, as in the examples of figures 6A And 7B , several points of contact per aesthetic element may be required to ensure uniform electrochemical treatment of the aesthetic element.
  • three aesthetic elements 3 are distributed over an annular portion of the visible face 2a of the bezel 1.
  • the aesthetic elements 3 are inlaid on the substrate 2 including the indices made in a non-conductive material .
  • the bezel 1 is provided with several orifices 4b communicating with the recesses 4 to produce the contact points making it possible to bring the current to these three elements.
  • two contact points 4b are provided by aesthetic element 3.
  • the Figures 7B and 7C represent another configuration of an aesthetic element inlaid in a recess made in a support.
  • the inlaid aesthetic element 3 extends to a horn 5a of the case middle watch case 5 and comprises a plurality of housings 3a for setting stones 6 in a subsequent operation, which is particularly advantageous for decorating watch cases made of poorly ductile materials such as ceramic.
  • the recess receiving the aesthetic element opens at least in one place on a non-visible side of the watch case. It is thus possible that the recess 4 communicates with the bar hole 7 as illustrated in Figure 7A .
  • the recess 4 can communicate in several places through other openings making it possible to produce contact points bringing the current to the aesthetic element 3.
  • the present invention thus makes it possible thanks to the electrical contact point(s). placed on a non-visible side of the watch case to electrochemically treat the aesthetic element after setting with the stones.
  • the present invention has been more specifically illustrated for a decorative piece in watchmaking but it goes without saying that the process according to the invention applies to the production of decorative pieces in many other fields such as jewelry, telephony, automobile, etc.
