Definitions

  • the invention relates to a locking device of the padlock type, and to a method of assembling such a locking device.
  • Locking devices of the padlock type comprising a body and a handle mounted movable in translation in the padlock and also in rotation with respect to the padlock.
  • the padlock further comprises an orifice made in the body and a return member housed at the bottom of this orifice.
  • the handle has an end portion movably mounted in the orifice against the return member.
  • the handle can thus be translated between a first position where the padlock is in an open state and a second position where the padlock is in a closed state.
  • the handle is also pivoting in the body.
  • the padlock further comprises a hole formed in the body and opening into the orifice where the end portion of the handle is located, as well as a pin mechanically secured in the hole and projecting into the orifice.
  • the pin thus has an end face located opposite the end portion of the handle so as to form an abutment during the translation of the handle from its second position to its first position.
  • Such a pin is assembled on the body of the padlock after the assembly of the end portion of the handle in the orifice of the body, for example by being forced into the dedicated hole.
  • the end face of the pin has a perfectly flat surface to allow translation and rotation of the end portion of the shackle in and relative to the padlock body. For this, it may be necessary to machine the end face before assembling it in the body hole. Moreover, after assembly of the pin with the body, it can be necessary to polish and/or treat the padlock body at least at the level of the opening end of the hole.
  • US1003718 discloses a padlock where a guide piece and the end of the shackle are in a hole in the body and the piece forms a hook, in which the end of the shackle is held.
  • the invention aims to provide a locking device of the padlock type, which is particularly simple and convenient both in manufacture and in use and which is also particularly reliable and durable.
  • the invention thus relates, in a first aspect, to a locking device of the padlock type, comprising a body and a handle mounted movable in translation and in rotation relative to said body, where said body is provided with an orifice and a groove provided inside said orifice, said handle comprises a thinned end portion mounted in said orifice of said body, and said device further comprises a mounting member mechanically fastened to said thinned end portion of said handle and housed in said groove, said mounting member being configured to allow the rotation of said handle relative to said body and also the translation of said handle in said orifice of said body, between a first position where said device is in an open state, and a second position where said device is in a closed state and said mounting member forms an abutment on said thinned end portion of said handle; said mounting member has a predetermined height and said groove has a height at least equal to or greater than the predetermined height of said mounting member; said device is configured so that said mounting member is translated with said thinned end portion of said
  • the mounting member of the locking device according to the invention is housed in the groove formed in the orifice, itself formed in the body, and this mounting member cooperates with the thinned end portion of the handle to allow its free rotation and its translation only between the first position of the handle and its second position. It is in this first position of the handle relative to the body that the mounting member acts as a stop on its thinned end portion.
  • the throat Since the throat is made in the orficia, the throat has a internal diameter greater than the internal diameter of the orifice.
  • a groove can for example be made using a wedge cutter during or after the realization, typically by drilling the orifice.
  • the locking device according to the invention is therefore devoid of a pin introduced from outside the body and does not require machining and specific treatment, before or after the assembly of the handle with the mounting member in the body.
  • the arrangement of the locking device according to the invention is particularly reliable and durable while remaining particularly simple and convenient.
  • said height of said groove defines a stroke of said handle between its first and second positions.
  • the invention also relates, in a second aspect, to a locking device of the padlock type, comprising a body and a handle mounted movable in translation and in rotation relative to said body, where said body is provided with an orifice and a groove provided inside said orifice, said handle comprises a thinned end portion mounted in said orifice of said body, and said device further comprises a mounting member mechanically fastened to said thinned end portion of said handle and housed in said groove, said mounting member being configured to allow the rotation of said handle relative to said body and also the translation of said handle in said orifice of said body, between a first position where said device is in an open state and a second position where said device is in a closed state, and said mounting member forms an abutment on said thinned end portion of said handle; said mounting member has a predetermined height and said groove has a height at least equal to or greater than the predetermined height of said mounting member; and said device is configured such that said tapered end portion of said bail is translated relative to said mounting

  • the orifice 7 has a first predetermined internal diameter d1, defined by its cylindrical internal wall 10, and a first predetermined height h1.
  • the body 2 is further provided with a groove 11 made inside the orifice 7.
  • the groove 11 is here cylindrical and made in the cylindrical internal wall 10 of the orifice 7.
  • the groove 11 thus has a second predetermined internal diameter d2 greater than the first predetermined internal diameter d1 of the orifice 7.
  • the groove 11 also has a second predetermined height h2 much lower than the first predetermined height h1 of the orifice 7.
  • the hole 8 is provided with a bottom 12 from which extends a cylindrical internal wall 13 up to the upper face 6.
  • the hole 8 has a third predetermined internal diameter d3, defined by its cylindrical internal wall 13, and a third predetermined height h3.
  • the third predetermined internal diameter d3 of the hole 8 is substantially equal to the first predetermined internal diameter d1 of the orifice 7; while the third predetermined height h3 of hole 8 is much lower than the first predetermined height h1 of orifice 7.
  • the handle 3 comprises a main U-shaped portion 14, a locking portion 15 located at one end of the main U-shaped portion 14, a thinned end portion 16 located at an opposite end of the main U-shape 14, and an end flange 17 extending the thinned end portion 16.

  • the ring 4 is made of plastic material. Alternatively, the ring can be metallic.
  • the ring 4 is configured to be fitted onto the thinned end portion 16 of the handle 3.
  • the ring 4 has elastic properties allowing it to be pushed aside for its fitting on the thinned end portion 16 without the ring 4 being able to withdraw from this thinned end portion 16.
  • the ring 4 is thus mechanically secured to the thinned end portion 16 of the handle 3.
  • the ring 4 is configured to be housed in the groove 11 of the orifice 7.
  • the ring 4 here has a fourth predetermined height h4, substantially equal to or slightly less than the first predetermined length I1 of the thinned end portion 16, and much less than the first and second predetermined heights h1 and h2 respectively of the orifice 7 and d throat 11.
  • the ring 4 is further configured to allow the rotation of the handle 3 relative to the body 2 and also the translation of this handle in the orifice 7 of the body, between a first position where the padlock 1 is in an open state, and a second position where the padlock is in a closed state.
