Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a window regulator, in particular for a motor vehicle, of the type comprising a slider mounted to move in a door of the vehicle under the action of a drive mechanism, so as to drive a window, by means of a drive finger connected by its base to the cursor and engaged in a hole in the window. The free end of the finger extends beyond the hole and the finger is retained axially in the latter by means of locking means.
  • Window regulators have been proposed in which the locking means consist of a pin engaged transversely to the axis of the finger in an annular groove provided on the part of the finger emerging from the hole.
  • This type of window lifter is fitted by positioning the slider and its drive mechanism in the door, then the window, fitted with an anti-noise bearing fitted in the hole, is inserted into the door. The cursor finger is then engaged in the hole in the glass. The installation, by an operator, of the pin on the finger, is done blind through an opening made in an interior panel of the door.
  • This type of window regulator has drawbacks, encountered in particular during assembly.
  • the installation of the anti-noise bearing in the hole of the glass is not easy and it is frequent that the anti-noise bearing is badly centered and takes off. It also happens that the pin is incorrectly mounted, so that the window falls into the door after a few operations of the window regulator.
  • the present invention relates to an improved window regulator which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks, and in particular ensures rapid and secure locking of the finger in the hole in the window without it being necessary to provide one or more parts added to the glass before inserting the finger into the hole thereof.
  • the locking means comprise a sleeve threaded on the finger and retained axially on the latter, having a deformable part extending beyond the hole on the side of the free end of the finger, and means d actuable expansion, carried by the finger, capable of causing, when actuated, an enlargement of said deformable part to a radial dimension greater than the diameter of the hole, so as to retain the finger in the hole of the glass.
  • the sleeve is made of elastically deformable material.
  • the sleeve is capable of interposing elastically between the finger and the hole and has one end coming into axial abutment against the cursor, this end being provided with a radial collar directed outwards, suitable for to intervene elastically between the cursor and the window.
  • the expansion means comprise a cam mounted to tilt at the free end of the finger and shaped to drive in the direction of the sleeve a ring slidably mounted on the finger, the ring being shaped to cause , by wedge effect, by moving in the direction of the sleeve, said enlargement of the deformable part of the sleeve.
  • the ring is retained on the finger by abutment against the cam, and advantageously comprises a plane axial face coming into contact with the cam and an opposite frustoconical axial face, converging in the direction of the cursor.
  • the cam comprises two wings connected to a back and an articulation journal of the cam on the finger, extending between the wings and perpendicular to them, the back extending at one end in front of the wings to form a lever intended to facilitate the tilting of the cam, the opposite end of the back lying in the plane of the free lateral edges of the wings located opposite the lever, the tilting of the cam being effected by a quarter turn between a finger insertion position in the hole, in which said lateral free edges are applied to the ring without enlarging the diameter of the sleeve and a locking position, in which the longitudinal free edges of the wings parallel to the back are applied to the ring, the distance between the articulation pin and said longitudinal free edges being greater than the distance between the articulation pin and said lateral free edges, so as to cause a widening of the diameter of the sleeve when the cam is tilted.
  • the finger is split obliquely over half of its thickness approximately, the slit being inclined towards the inside of the finger near the free end of the latter to form a hook, the pin being retained, in position of insertion of the cam, in the bottom of this slot by reaction of the sleeve.
  • the finger has a shoulder delimiting a first part of the finger connecting to the slider and whose diameter corresponds to the inside diameter of the sleeve, and a second part of the finger of diameter less than the diameter of the first part and on which are mounted the cam and the ring.
  • FIG. 1 a window regulator according to the invention.
  • This window regulator has a slider 1 capable of moving relative to a door panel 2 under the action of a drive mechanism known in itself. More particularly, the cursor 1 is slidably mounted on a slide 3 fixed to the door panel 2 and the movement of the cursor on this slide is effected by means of a control cable 4. The latter is actuated, in a manner known per se , by control means 5, comprising an electric motor or a crank. The cursor 1 is able to drive a window 7 in a vertical movement by means of a finger 10 intended to be inserted in a hole 6, formed in the window 7.
  • the finger 10 elongated in the direction of a longitudinal axis L, generally cylindrical of revolution around this axis, is connected by its base to the cursor 1.
  • the length of the finger 10 is such that its free end extends beyond of the hole 6 when the finger is engaged in the latter.
  • An opening 8 is made in the door panel 2 to allow an operator to mount and lock the finger 10 of the cursor 1 in the hole 6.
  • the finger 10 comprises locking means operable by the operator, without it being necessary to bring back after insertion of the finger into the hole a independent locking piece such as a pin, or that it is necessary to mount on the glass a locking device, prior to the insertion of the finger into the hole, as was previously known.
  • the locking means comprise a sleeve 11 threaded on the finger 10 and retained axially thereon.
  • the sleeve 11 is made of an elastically deformable material, preferably rubber, and has a cylindrical shape of revolution of constant inside diameter.
  • the outside diameter of the sleeve 11 corresponds to the diameter of the hole 6.
  • the sleeve 11 abuts at an axial end 12 on the slider 1, while the other axial end 13 of the sleeve 11 extends beyond the hole 6 on the side of the free end of the finger 10, and back from it.
  • the sleeve 11 advantageously comprises at the end 12, as shown, a radial flange 14 extending outwards, preferably formed in formation on the sleeve.
  • the collar 14 is capable of interposing elastically between the window 7 and the slider 1.
  • the sleeve 11 is interposed elastically between the edge of the hole 6 and the finger 10, so that the sleeve 11 also plays, in the invention, the role of an anti-noise bearing, damping the vibrations of the glass.
  • the finger 10 has a shoulder 30 defining a first part 15 located at the base of the finger and whose diameter corresponds to the inner diameter of the sleeve 11 and a second part 16, forming a hook, with a diameter less than the diameter of this first part 15.
  • the second part 16 forming a hook has an oblique slot 29 extending towards the inside of the finger towards its free end, over approximately half of its thickness .
  • the length of the first part 15 and the thickness of the radial flange 14 are such that the shoulder 30 is located, in the embodiment described, at about half the thickness of the hole in the window.
  • the locking means comprise expansion means provided to cause a widening of the diameter of the part of the sleeve 11 extending beyond the hole 6, to a value greater than the diameter of the hole.
  • these expansion means consist of a ring 17 slidingly mounted on the finger 10 and of a cam 20 able to push this ring towards the sleeve.
  • the ring 17 is slidably mounted on the second part 16.
  • the outside diameter of the ring 17 corresponds to the outside diameter of the sleeve 11.
  • the ring 17 is shaped to cause an enlargement of the outer diameter of the sleeve to a value greater than the diameter of the hole 6, so as to retain after its insertion the finger 10 in the hole and it has for this purpose, on its axial face turned towards the sleeve, a frustoconical surface converging in the direction of the cursor 1, inclined by about 60 ° relative to the longitudinal axis L.
  • the other axial face of the ring 17, abutting on the cam is plane and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L.
  • the wall of the sleeve 11 is bevelled on its periphery at the free end 13 so as to contact over its entire thickness the frustoconical surface of the ring 17 when the latter is in the position of FIG. 3, in which the sleeve 11 is only slightly or not compressed.
  • the axial displacement of the ring 17 is effected by means of the cam 20 pivotally mounted about an axis T perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L on the second part 16 of the finger 10.
  • the cam 20 has two lateral wings 22 that are flat and parallel to each other, connected to a back 23 perpendicular to the wings 22.
  • the cam 20 has in cross section the general shape of a U.
  • An articulation pin 21 of the cam 20 on the finger 10 extends between the wings 22 , perpendicular to them.
  • the back 23 extends at one end forward of the wings 22 to form a lever 24 terminated by a rounded edge, this lever 24 being intended to facilitate the gripping of the cam 20 by an operator to effect its tilting.
  • the opposite end 25 of the back 23 is located in the plane of the free lateral edges 26 of the wings 22 perpendicular to the back 23, and located opposite the lever 24.
  • the wings 22 each have a longitudinal free edge 27 extending parallel on the back 23.
  • the edges 26 and 27 are oriented at right angles to each other and are connected by a rounding, the meeting of the edges 26 and 27 constituting a cam path applying on the flat face of the ring 17 in order to cause its axial displacement.
  • the distance e from the pin 21 to a free lateral edge 26 is less than the distance E from the pin 21 to a longitudinal edge 27 so that the tilting of the cam 20, in the direction of the arrow F, causes a displacement axial of the ring 17 by the distance E - e and the widening, by wedge effect of the frustoconical surface of the ring 17 on the wall of the sleeve, of the external diameter of the latter for form a bead 28 whose external diameter is greater than the diameter of the hole 6.
  • the window 7 is then clamped between the bead 28 and the radial flange 14.
  • the pin 21 is received at the bottom of the oblique slot 29 formed on the finger 10.
  • the surface defining the slot 29 inside the finger 10 is parallel to the axis T, that is to say perpendicular to the planes of the Figures 3 and 4.
  • the pin 21 is preferably held at the bottom of the slot 29 by reaction of the sleeve 11, and this regardless of the position of the cam 20, tilted or not.
  • the opening of the slot 29 is at least partially closed by the ring 17 when the sleeve is little or not compressed, so as to prevent any accidental departure of the pin 21 from the slot 29.
  • the pin 21 is retained more strongly at the bottom of the slot 29 when the cam is in its tilted position, under the effect of the greater reaction of the sleeve which is then more strongly compressed.
  • the mounting of the locking means on the finger 10 is carried out as follows. We start by threading on the finger 10, not provided with the cam 20 and the ring 17, the sleeve 11 then the ring 17, with the orientation defined in FIGS. 2 to 4. The more we engage the pin 21 in the slot 29, the cam 20 being in the non-tilted position, after having previously displaced the ring 17 towards the sleeve 11 so as to release the opening of the slot 29. The pin 21 is then retained at the bottom of the slot 29 by reaction of the muff. However, in this position, which corresponds to FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 5, the sleeve 11 is only very slightly or not compressed so that its outside diameter remains less than the diameter of the hole 6. The finger 10 is ready to be inserted into the hole 6.
  • the cam 20 After insertion of the finger 10 into the hole 6, the cam 20 is tilted by a quarter turn by a simple action on the lever 24 in the direction of the arrow F and the finger 10 is firmly held in the hole. For disassembly, simply tilt the cam in the opposite direction.
  • the glass can be easily mounted inside the door, without the need to equip the glass with a locking device or an anti-noise bearing prior to its fitting in the door.
