Definitions

  • the invention relates to a hinge for the articulated attachment of a door to a vehicle with retention means of the door in a predetermined opening angle.
  • the hinge is especially suitable for rear doors of lightweight loading or delivery vehicles, such as vans.
  • hinges offer the possibility of reducing the mounting time in a vehicle compared to solutions in which the hinge and a retention device are separate components, even with both being able to be coupled to the chassis and to the vehicle door.
  • Patent document EP 2639389 describes a hinge equipped with retention means.
  • the hinge has a fixed body that can be screwed to the vehicle chassis and a movable body connected to the fixed body in an articulated fashion and able to be screwed to a door.
  • the hinge comprises a stop connected to the fixed body and a retention arm connected to the movable body, but held towards one direction in which one part of said retention arm is automatically fastened in a type of hook with which the retainer of the fixed body is provided when the vehicle door is opened.
  • the door is therefore retained and it is not possible to continue opening the door.
  • the door form an angle of approximately 90° with respect to the vehicle chassis in this retention position.
  • a first objective of the present invention is an alternative hinge to the known hinges with retention means, which is suitable for rear doors or trunk doors of lightweight loading or delivery vehicles, such as vans, the doors of which are generally larger and heavier than passenger access doors in a passenger car.
  • Another object of the invention is a hinge with retention means able to retain the door in a pre-established position, preferably approximately 90° with respect to the vehicle chassis, but which does not prevent the door from continuing to move in the direction of the largest opening thereof if the door is pulled with greater force. In other words, it avoids the need to maneuver the door in a direction opposite to the first and having to manipulate the retention arm of the hinge at the same time as pulling the door in the direction of opening thereof.
  • the retention arm requires a length that prevents the hinge from being compact. Specifically, it needs a hole in the chassis so that when the door is in the closed position, one part of the retention arm invades and is housed in the vehicle chassis.
  • Another objective of the invention is a hinge that allows this drawback to be overcome.
  • a more compact hinge is desirable, which does not need to invade the vehicle chassis, especially when the door is in the closed position.
  • a hinge with retention means for the door in a predetermined opening angle able to achieve the previously mentioned aims is described in claim 1.
  • the hinge comprises a first hinge body and a second hinge body, articulated with one another, prepared so that one body is fastened to a door and the other to the vehicle chassis, the retention means comprising a retention arm, attached in an articulated fashion to either the first or the second hinge body, and a retention group of the retention arm, mounted on the other of the first or second hinge body.
  • the hinge is characterized in that the retention group has a clamp with a first brake body and a second brake body between which the retention arm moves as the opening or closing movement of the door takes place, at least between angles smaller than the aforementioned predetermined angle, at least either the first and second brake body being held by elastic means which arrange the same in the direction of the retention arm to close the clamp on the retention arm and exert through friction a resistance to the longitudinal movement of said retention arm during at least a part of the opening or closing movement of the door.
  • the retention arm has a housing in at least one of the faces facing the first and second brake bodies, respectively, into which the facing brake body is automatically inserted by the action of the elastic means enough to trap and provisionally halt the retention arm and with it the rotation of the door in a halted position D during a normal maneuver of opening or closing the same when said door is open at an angle that substantially corresponds to the aforementioned predetermined opening angle.
  • the halting is provisional because by pulling the door in the same direction to achieve the opening thereof it is possible to remove the brake body from the associated housing and, therefore, it is possible to continue opening the door. It is only necessary to momentarily overcome the force exerted by the elastic means, by means of the brake body, on the retention arm to overcome the provisional halted position D.
  • the retention arm is devoid of any stop or similar which prevents the complete extraction of the same from the clamp.
  • the retention arm does not have the function of limiting the opening angle of the door.
  • the hinge will have a compact construction.
  • the arrangement of the housing, or housings, if applicable, in the retention arm can be chosen such that the provisional halted position D is when the door is at 90° from the vehicle chassis, the door being of the type that can continue to open until remaining open at approximately 180°, as is the case of the rear doors of lightweight loading or delivery vehicles, such as vans.
  • the distal end of the retention arm is configured in a general wedge or arrowhead shape and the length of the retention arm is such that it escapes from between the brake bodies of the clamp when the door reaches an open position that goes some degrees beyond the halted position D; and the retention arm is held by a positioning spring which, in collaboration with a rotational stop, arranges the retention arm in a position such that when a closing maneuver of the door is carried out from a position in which the said retention arm is extracted from the clamp, the ramps of the wedge or arrowhead shape are able to separate from one another by the pushing of the brake bodies to reinsert the retention arm in the clamp.
  • this allows a compact hinge to be obtained, and specifically allows the length of the retention arm to be dimensioned such that in the closed door position, said arm does not invade the projection of the theoretical coupling plane between the hinge body that is fastened to the chassis and said chassis.
  • the hinge comprises a movement stop of the first brake body against the retention arm that determines a minimum distance of separation between the first and second brake bodies of the clamp.
  • This feature can be combined with a configuration of the retention arm such that along the at least one segment of said retention arm, the same can slide resting only on the second brake body without making contact with the first brake body of the clamp.
  • the segment of the retention arm configured such that it can slide without making contact with the first brake body of the clamp is a segment near the articulated attachment thereof to the body of the corresponding hinge, such that the clamp does not exert any braking force on the relative movement between the first and the second hinge bodies corresponding to the initial instants of the maneuver of opening the door and the last instants of the maneuver of closing the door.
  • the aforementioned feature allows the wear of the parts of the hinge to be reduced.
  • the weight of the rear doors in lightweight loading or delivery vehicles, such as vans, is conventionally greater than the passenger access doors, due to the dimensions thereof,. It is then necessary for the elastic means to exert a notable force on the associated brake body so that the clamp sufficiently holds the retention arm to halt, albeit provisionally, the door, at 90° for example.
  • the brake body held by the elastic means is mounted on the resistance arm of a lever, the effort arm of which is held by said elastic means.
  • the lever exerts a multiplier effect of the force exerted by the elastic means.
  • the retention group comprises two parallel wings that support axially aligned fulcrums, each one for one half of the lever; said halves of the lever spaced from each other but connected on a first side of the fulcrums, on what is the resistance arm of the lever, by the first brake body, the aforementioned halves of the lever being sufficiently spaced apart for the retention arm to pass between the same with clearance.
  • the invention envisages that a corresponding compression spring of the elastic means acts on each one of the halves of the lever on a second side of the fulcrums, on what is the effort arm of the lever.
  • first brake body or the second brake body or both are rotational rollers.
  • the second brake body can be formed or supported on the hinge body on which the retention group is mounted.
  • the second brake body can extend between the two support wings of the fulcrums for the lever.
  • the hinge can be equipped with a lock, able to lock a relative movement between the clamp and the retention arm; or between the brake bodies of the clamp in the direction of the separation thereof, when the hinge is in the halted position D.
  • the lock can be actuated between an inoperative position in which it does not prevent a relative movement between the retention arm and the clamp or between the brake bodies of the clamp; and an operative position, wherein when the hinge is in the halted position D, it prevents a relative movement between the retention arm and the clamp or between the brake bodies of the clamp in the direction of the separation thereof.
  • the lock comprises a rotational hook that rotates around a shaft fixed to either the lever or the hinge body that supports the retention group, able to engage in the operative position an integral fastener or button of the other of the lever or the hinge body which supports the retention group only when the hinge is in the halted position D.
  • the hook is held by a spring that tends to arrange it in the inoperative position.
  • the hinge can comprise a mechanic actuator of the lock, in the form of a flexible thread-like element, such as cable or similar, such that it can act on the lock at a distance from the hinge, by simply pulling the cable.
  • a mechanic actuator of the lock in the form of a flexible thread-like element, such as cable or similar, such that it can act on the lock at a distance from the hinge, by simply pulling the cable.
  • FIG. 1 One example of a hinge according to the invention is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 .
  • the hinge 1 has a first hinge body 2 and a second hinge body 3 attached in an articulate fashion to one another and prepared, in the example, for the first hinge body 2 to be fixed to a door and the second hinge body 3 to be fixed to the vehicle chassis, such as to the post of the door.
  • the hinge 1 has retention means that comprise a retention arm 4, attached in an articulated fashion to the first hinge body 2 in an articulated attachment 44 (visible in Figs. 3 to 5 ), and a retention group 5 mounted on the second hinge body 3.
  • Said retention group 5 has a clamp 50 with a first brake body and second brake body 51, 52 between which the retention arm 4 slides when carrying out an opening or closing movement of the door at least between angles smaller than a predetermined opening angle, in the example approximately 90°.
  • the second brake body 52 is fixed while the first brake body 51 is loaded by elastic means 54 in the direction of the first brake body 51. As a result, they will be able to provide resistance to the movement of the retention arm 4.
  • Said retention arm 4 in turn, has housings 41, 42 into which the first and second brake bodies 51 and 52 are automatically inserted by the action of said elastic means 54 in a way that is sufficient to trap and provisionally halt the retention arm 4 and with it the rotation of the door in a halted position D, which is shown in Fig. 2 .
  • the housings 41 and 42 are formed in the retention arm such that the halted position D coincides during a normal opening or closing maneuver of the door when said door is open at an angle that substantially corresponds to the aforementioned 90°.
  • the hinge 1 of the example has in this regard an advantageous constructive solution.
  • the first brake body 51 movable with respect to the second hinge body 3 is mounted on the resistance arm 53a of a lever 53, the effort arm 53b of which is held by elastic means 54 that arrange said first brake body 51 in the direction of the retention arm 4.
  • the lever 53 can carry out a multiplier effect of the force applied to the same by the elastic means 54.
  • the lever 53 rotates around a shaft parallel to the shaft that articulates between the same and the second hinge bodies 2, 3.
  • the retention group 5 comprises two parallel wings 56 that support axially aligned fulcrums 55, each one for one half 531, 532 of the lever 53.
  • Said halves 531, 532 of the lever are spaced apart from each other but connected on a first side of the fulcrums 55, on what is the resistance arm 53a of the lever 53, by the first brake body 51 which extends between the two halves 531 and 532 of the lever 53, the aforementioned halves 531, 532 from the lever 53 for the passage between the same with clearance for the retention arm 4.
  • the elastic means 54 in the hinge 1 can thus be implemented in the form of two compression springs 54a, each one compressed between one end of one half 531 and 532 of the lever 53 and the second hinge body 3 (or an integral component of the same).
  • the lever, 53 in the assembly thereof will be held by two compression springs 54a, thereby increasing the force exerted on the lever 53 and therefore on the first brake body 51.
  • the first brake body can be in the form of a roller, rotational with respect to the lever 53, meaning rotational around a shaft parallel to the fulcrums 55 of the lever.
  • the second brake body 52 is supported and extends between the two support wings 56 of the fulcrums 55 for the lever 53.
  • the second brake body 52 being fixed with respect to the second hinge body 3, other solutions are possible, including those in which the second brake body 52 is directly formed or supported in the second body 3 of the hinge 3, or in an integral component of the same, different from the wings 56.
  • the second brake body 52 can also be in the form of a roller, rotational around a shaft parallel to the fulcrums 55 of the lever 53.
  • Figs. 3 to 4 better show the relationship between the retention arm 4 and the clamp 50 of the retention group 5 according to the different positions that the first and the second bodies 2 and 3 of the hinge 1 may adopt.
  • the retention arm 4 is provided with housings 41, 42, both configured to receive the aforementioned brake bodies 51, 52, respectively.
  • Figs. 3b and 4b better show that the hinge 1 is equipped with a lock 6, able to lock a relative movement of separation between the brake bodies 51, 52 of the clamp 5, especially useful when the hinge 1 is in the halted position D, as will be explained in further detail below.
  • the lock 6 of the example can be actuated between an inoperative position, in which it does not prevent a relative movement between the brake bodies 51, 52 of the clamp 5; and an operative position, which prevents a relative movement of separation between the brake bodies 51, 52 of the clamp 5.
  • the lock 6 comprises a hook 61 that rotates around a shaft fixed to the second hinge body 3, in the example fixed to one of the wings 56, and is dimensioned and configured to engage an integral fastener or button 52a of the lever 53.
  • the hook 61 is held by a spring 62 which tends by defect to arrange it in the inoperative position, which is represented in Fig. 3b .
  • Figs. 3a and 3b specifically show the hinge 1 in the closed-door position.
  • the retention arm 4 By changing the relative position between the first and the second body 2 and 3 of the hinge 1 with the opening movement of the door, the retention arm 4 will move between the first and the second brake bodies 51 and 52, which due to the tendency to move close to each other, will produce a brake effect on the opening movement of the door when each one rests on a facing face 41a, 42a of the retention arm 4.
  • Figs. 4a and 4b show the same hinge 1 in the halted position D of the door.
  • the distal end 4a of the retention arm 4 is configured in a general wedge or arrowhead shape 43, in the direction towards the end thereof.
  • This distal end 4a of the retention arm 4 does not include any sudden increase in height, meaning no sharp increase of the distance between the faces 41a and 42a thereof, which avoids, and not even hindering, the extraction of the retention arm 4 of the clamp 50.
  • this particular feature allows the retention arm 4 to escape from the clamp 5, without having to make an added effort pulling the door once the first and the second brake bodies 51 and 52 are outside of the housings 41 and 42.
  • the retention arm 4 is held by a positioning spring 44a which, in collaboration with a rotational stop 55 will arrange the retention arm 44 in a standby position such that when a closing maneuver of the door is carried out from a position in which the said retention arm 4 is extracted from the clamp 50, the ramps of the wedge or arrowhead shape 43 will precisely allow, and if it were required, the separation by pushing the brake bodies 51 and 52 to reintroduce the retention arm 4 in the clamp 50.
  • the retention arm 4 has, from the articulated attachment 44 to the first hinge body 2, a first short section 401 and a second long section 402 that form an angle between the two.
  • the invention envisages that the retention arm 4 has a height that is not constant, meaning the distance between the faces 41a and 42a thereof is not the same throughout the length of the retention arm 4.
  • the retention arm slowly increasing in height toward the distal end 4a thereof, the closer the hinge 1 moves to the halted position D during an opening maneuver of the door, the greater the force of friction the brake bodies 51 and 52 will exert on the movement of the retention arm 4 by having to further force the separation thereof.
  • the opposite effect can occur, or even disabling the brake function that the clamp 50 carries out on the retention arm 4 when the hinge 1 adopts certain positions.
  • the hinge 1 exemplified by the invention, there is a movement stop 56a of the first brake body 51 in the direction of the retention arm 4, which determines a minimum distance of separation between the first and second brake bodies 51, 52 of the clamp 50.
  • the short section 401 of the retention arm has a segment configured such that it can slide only resting on the second brake body 52 without making contact with the first brake body 51 of the clamp 50. To do so, it is only necessary for the height of the retention arm 4 along said segment to be less than the minimum separation distance between the first and the second brake bodies 51 and 52.
  • the movement stop 56a is carried out by the upper profile of a wing 56, which prevents the lever 53 from rotating in a counterclockwise direction, precisely by making contact with the fastener or button 52a, in reference to the drawings, beyond the position that is illustrated in Figs. 4a and 4b .
  • FIG. 3a This situation is especially visible in Fig. 3a , which effectively shows how the face 41a of the retention arm 4 does not make contact with the first brake body 51.
  • This segment being a segment near the articulated attachment 44 of the retention arm 4 with the first hinge body 2 makes it so the clamp 50 does not exert any braking force on the relative movement between the first and the second hinge bodies 2, 3 during the initial instants of the door-opening maneuver and the last instants of the door-closing maneuver.
  • the invention envisages that this engaging is only possible when the hinge 1 is in the retention position D such that by rotating the hook 61 when the hinge 1 is in a different position, the fastener or button 52a will be out of the reach of the hook 61, by being too close to the rotational point of the hook 61 or by being too far from the same.
  • Fig. 6 illustrates the hinge 1 installed in a vehicle, the door being labeled with the reference 22 and the reference 33 being the post or the vehicle chassis, the hinge 1 adopting the closed-door position.
  • Fig. 6 shows that the hinge 1 can be completed with a mechanical actuator 63 of the lock 6, in the form of a flexible, thread-like element, such as a cable or similar, able to be actuated at a distance, for example from a lever or button, able to pull the cable to arrange the lock in the operative position 6 thereof.
  • a mechanical actuator 63 of the lock 6 in the form of a flexible, thread-like element, such as a cable or similar, able to be actuated at a distance, for example from a lever or button, able to pull the cable to arrange the lock in the operative position 6 thereof.
