Description

  • Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Färben der Oberfläche eines Polypropylen-Werkstücks mit einem Farbmittel. Außerdem betrifft die Erfindung ein Erzeugnis, umfassend ein gefärbtes Polypropylen-Werkstück.
  • HINTERGRUND DER ERFINDUNG
  • Polypropylen-Werkstücke sind z.B. als Polypropylenfasern in textilen Faserstoffen weit verbreitet in Verwendung. Eine besondere Charakteristik von Polypropylenfasern ergibt sich aus deren Aufbau als Kohlenwasserstoffbasierte Faser, die sehr hydrophobe Eigenschaften aufweist. Die geringe Kapazität von Polypropylenfasern zur Feuchteaufnahme aus der Luft oder als Kapillarwasser, machen diese Fasern besonders interessant für Einsatzgebiete in denen eine rasche Trocknung und ein vermindertes Nässegefühl gefordert sind. Typische Einsatzbereiche sind daher Sportunterwäsche oder hautnahe Schichten in Einwegwindeln. Polypropylenfasern werden aber auch z.B. in der Automobilindustrie (z.B. als Teppiche) eingesetzt.
  • Insbesondere in textilen Anwendungen besteht ein Bedarf nach gefärbten Polypropylenfasern, was sich einerseits aus funktionalen und andererseits aus optischen sowie modischen Gründen ergibt. Daher sind Färbeverfahren für Polypropylen (PP) von großem Interesse. Der hydrophobe Charakter von PP begründet zwar die besonderen funktionellen Eigenschaften, macht jedoch durch das Fehlen von funktionellen Gruppen die Anhaftung von Farbstoffen bei wässrigen Färbeprozessen sehr schwer. Auch das Färben mit anderen Systemen ist bei Polypropylenfasern praktisch sehr schwierig, da die Farbstoffe am PP nicht haften.
  • Das am häufigsten verwendete Färbeverfahren beruht auf der Einbringung von Farbstoff auf der Ebene der Faserherstellung. Dabei wird ein den Farbstoff enthaltender Master-Batch mit dem Polypropylen während des Schmelzspinnvorgangs zur Herstellung der Fasern gemischt, bei dem aus dem Extrusionsvorgang farbige Fasern hervorgehen. Nach diesem Verfahren der Massefärbung von PP können beliebige Farben mit sehr hohen Echtheitsanforderungen erzeugt werden. Da die gefärbten Fasern im Rahmen des Faserspinnprozesses entstehen, ergeben sich jedoch mehrere kritische Nachteile: Die Methode ist nur bei relativ hohen Produktionsmengen wirtschaftlich, da die komplette Spinnanlage mit farbigem Polymer gefüllt werden muss und hohe Mengen an Übergangsfarben zwischen zwei Farbtönen als Abfall anfallen. Die Färbung erfolgt auf der Ebene der Fasern und ist damit in späteren Prozessen nicht veränderbar, ebenso können keine Garne oder Flächen gefärbt oder bedruckt werden, was die technische Flexibilität sehr stark einschränkt.
  • Um bereits hergestellte Fasern auf Polypropylenbasis färbbar zu machen, wurden verschiedene Konzepte in der Literatur vorgeschlagen. Mehrere Färbetechniken versuchen die Haftung von Farbmitteln an Textilien mit Polypropylenfasern dadurch zu verbessern, dass Polymere mit funktionellen Gruppen in die Spinmasse eingebracht werden. Diesen "Inkorporationstechniken" haftet jedoch der Nachteil an, dass eine gleichzeitige Veränderung der Fasereigenschaften eintritt, wodurch sich das Textil anderen Faserpolymeren annähert und damit die besonderen Eigenschaften der Polypropylenfaser verlorengehen. Andere Techniken versuchen das Farbmittel und die Polypropylenfasern durch Reaktion zu verbinden, was aufwändig ist und bedenkliche Chemikalien erfordert.
  • US 3,314,743 offenbart ein Verfahren, bei dem ein Gewebe aus Polypropylen mit 2-Sulfododecansäure behandelt und anschließend mit einem kationischen Farbstoff gefärbt wird. In US 3,653,799 wird die Färbung von Textilfasern beschrieben, indem die Textilfasern zuerst mit einem Harz beschichtet und anschließend gefärbt werden. US 5,618,622 beschreibt ein oberflächenmodifiziertes Fasermaterial, das Kohlenwasserstoffpolymerfasern mit kationischen oder anionischen Gruppen auf der Oberfläche enthält und mit einem Polyelektrolyten beschichtet ist, dessen Nettoladung der der kationischen oder anionischen Gruppen auf den Oberflächen der Fasern entgegengesetzt ist.
  • KURZBESCHREIBUNG DER ERFINDUNG
  • Zusammenfassend kann festgehalten werden, dass nach dem Stand der Technik verschiedene Verfahren zur Farbgebung von Polypropylen verfügbar sind. Jedes dieser Verfahren weist jedoch spezifische Nachteile auf, weshalb heute nur wenige Verfahren tatsächlich angewandt werden.
  • Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung ist die Bereitstellung eines Verfahrens zum Färben von Werkstücken aus Polypropylen, welches auf bestehenden textilen Verarbeitungsanlagen mit bestehenden textilen Farbstoffen in nützlichen Farbtiefen und mit brauchbaren Farbechtheiten durchführbar ist. Auch entsprechend gefärbte Werkstücke sollen bereitgestellt werden.
  • Gelöst wird diese Aufgabe durch ein Verfahren zum Färben der Oberfläche eines Werkstücks mit einem Farbmittel, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück in einem ersten Schritt mit einer kationischen Polypropylendispersion imprägniert wird und in einem anschließenden zweiten Schritt mit einem anionischen Farbmittel gefärbt wird.
  • Außerdem wird die Aufgabe gelöst durch ein Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein kationisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein anionisches Farbmittel angeordnet ist.
  • Polypropylendispersionen sind bereits seit längerem bekannt. Dabei handelt es sich um ein im Wesentlichen wässriges System, in welchem Polypropylen dispergiert ist. In bestimmten Fällen kann auch eine Emulsion vorliegen. In diesem Fall wird Polypropylen mit kurzen Kettenlängen und geringer Isotaktizität verwendet.
  • Unter einer kationischen Polypropylendispersion versteht man eine solche, welche ein kationisches Tensid aufweist. Das kationische Tensid lagert sich am dispergierten Polypropylen an.
  • Bevorzugt ist daher vorgesehen, dass die Polypropylendispersion eine Dispersion aus Polypropylen mit einem kationischen Tensid ist.
  • Das Imprägnieren mit der kationischen Polypropylendispersion erfolgt im einfachsten Fall dadurch, dass das Werkstück in ein Bad getaucht wird, in welchem sich die kationische Polypropylendispersion befindet. Dadurch bildet sich eine Schicht aus Polypropylen mit kationischem Tensid auf der Oberfläche des Werkstücks aus. Diese Schicht ist an der Oberfläche adsorbiert und das kationische Tensid verleiht diesem an der Oberfläche den Charakter einer positiven Ladung.
  • Beim Werkstück handelt es sich bevorzugt um eines, welches Kunststoff aufweist. Besonders bevorzugt handelt es sich um ein Werkstück, welches Polypropylen aufweist.
  • Weiters kann vorgesehen sein, dass das Werkstück nach dem Imprägnieren mit der kationischen Polypropylendispersion getrocknet wird. Im einfachsten Fall erfolgt dies dadurch, dass das Werkstück aus dem Bad entnommen wird, in welchem sich die kationische Polypropylendispersion befindet, und an Luft getrocknet wird. Durch Temperaturerhöhung kann die Trocknung beschleunigt werden.
  • Obwohl sich herausgestellt hat, dass die Imprägnierung des Werkstücks mit der kationischen Polypropylendispersion bereits zu einer Schicht führt, der dauerhaft an der Oberfläche anhaftet (adsorbiert), hat es sich dennoch als vorteilhaft erwiesen, wenn das Werkstück nach dem Imprägnieren mit der kationischen Polypropylendispersion auf über 100°C, vorzugsweise auf zwischen 110 und 155°C, erwärmt wird. Dadurch schmilzt die Schicht aus Polypropylen mit kationischem Tensid auf der Oberfläche des Werkstücks leicht an und schmilzt an das Werkstück an. Allerdings handelt es sich nicht um ein vollständiges Schmelzen der Schicht sondern um einen Vorgang, bei dem - ähnlich dem Sintern - nur die Oberfläche leicht erweicht.
  • Das Anschmelzen der Schicht aus Polypropylen mit kationischem Tensid auf der Oberfläche des Werkstücks erhöht die Haltbarkeit der Färbung signifikant und ermöglicht es auch, dass das Erzeugnis im Kochwaschgang gereinigt werden kann.
  • Als anionisches Farbmittel können sämtliche anionische Farbmittel zum Einsatz kommen, die in der Färbemittelindustrie eingesetzt werden. Bevorzugt handelt es sich um anionische Farbstoffe. Besonders bevorzugt handelt es sich um anionische Farbstoffe, die normalerweise in der Wollfärbung eingesetzt werden, beispielsweise anionische Naturfarbstoffe. Anionische Farbstoffe werden manchmal auch als Säurefarbstoffe bezeichnet.
  • Die Schritte des Trocknens und des Erwärmens können kombiniert werden und gleichzeitig in einem Schritt erfolgen.
  • Das Verfahren wird bevorzugt in der Textilindustrie eingesetzt, sodass das Werkstück bevorzugt Polypropylenfasern aufweist.
  • Das Polypropylen-Werkstück kann flächig sein. Bevorzugt umfasst es Polypropylenfasern. Es kann sich z.B. um ein Gewebe, Gestricke, Vlies usw. handeln. Sinngemäß können auch Folien, Platten, unregelmäßig aufgebaute Werkstücke und dicke Werkstücke modifiziert werden.
  • Hinsichtlich des Erzeugnisses kann vorgesehen sein, dass die Schicht auf die Oberfläche des Polypropylen-Werkstücks teilweise oder vollständig angeschmolzen ist.
  • Wie weiter unten dargelegt, betrifft die Erfindung auch ein Verfahren zum Färben der Oberfläche eines Werkstücks mit einem Farbmittel, welches dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass das Werkstück in einem ersten Schritt mit einer anionischen Polypropylendispersion imprägniert wird und in einem anschließenden zweiten Schritt mit einem kationischen Farbmittel gefärbt wird.
  • Die oben dargelegten Details gelten für eine kationische und ein anionisches Farbmittel mit geänderten Vorzeichen auch für die Variante anionische Polypropylendispersion und kationisches Farbmittel.
  • Daher betrifft die Erfindung auch ein Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein anionisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein kationisches Farbmittel angeordnet ist.
  • In allen Ausführungsvarianten ist bevorzugt vorgesehen, dass das Werkstück einen Kunststoff, vorzugsweise Polypropylen, umfasst, besonders bevorzugt Polypropylenfasern aufweist.
  • Weiters kann das Werkstück flächig ausgebildet sein insbesondere zumindest ein Gewebe, ein Gestrick, ein Vlies, eine Schicht, eine Platte, ein unregelmäßig aufgebautes Werkstück oder eine Kombination daraus umfassen.
  • Bevorzugt ist vorgesehen, dass die Schicht auf die Oberfläche des Werkstücks angeschmolzen ist.
  • Die Erfindung betrifft auch ein Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein kationisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein anionischer Wirkstoff angeordnet ist.

  • AUSFÜHRLICHE BESCHREIBUNG DER ERFINDUNG
  • Die Erfinder haben herausgefunden, dass durch eine Imprägnierung von Werkstücken aus Polypropylen (z.B. Polypropylenfasern oder textilen Flächen aus Polypropylenfasern) mit einer kationischen Polypropylendispersion die Oberflächenladung der Fasern soweit erhöht werden kann, dass eine Anfärbung mit anionisch geladenen Farbstoffen, wie sie z.B. für Wolle oder Polyamid verwendet werden, möglich ist.
  • In einer erfindungsgemässen Ausführung wird eine Polypropylenfaser mit einer kationischen Polypropylendispersion aus wässriger Phase imprägniert. Wird eine Polypropylendispersion mit 40 % Feststoffgehalt verwendet, so kann diese unverdünnt oder bevorzugt mit Wasser verdünnt auf das Fasermaterial durch Eintauchen und Abquetschen aufgetragen werden. Die Menge der auf der Ware abgelagerten Polypropylendispersion bewegt sich dabei bei einer Flottenaufnahme von 80 %, zwischen 32 % und 3 % des Warengewichts. In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform werden zwischen 20 % und 10 % an Polypropylendispersion aufgetragen und besonders bevorzugt werden zwischen 25 % und 15 % der Warenmasse an Polypropylendispersion aufgetragen.
  • Nach dem Auftragen erfolgt ein Abtrocknen der wässrigen Phase, wobei die Temperatur in üblichen Trocknungsapparaten z.B. Spannrahmen, Trommeltrockner, Drucktrockner entsprechend der Aufmachungsform der Fasern erfolgt und die Trocknungstemperatur bevorzugt zwischen 80 °C und 130 °C, besonders bevorzugt zwischen 105 und 115 °C liegt.
  • Die Trocknungsenergie kann dabei durch Heißluft, überhitzten Dampf, Kontakthitze, Infrarotstrahlung oder Mikrowellenstrahlung übertragen werden, wobei auch andere Trocknungsmethoden verwendet werden können.
  • Anschließend an die Trocknung wird die aufgetragene Polypropylendispersion durch einen thermischen Schritt auf der Ware fixiert. Die erforderliche Temperatur der Fixierung hängt dabei von der verwendeten Molekülmasse der Polypropylendispersion ab und liegt üblicherweise zwischen 110 °C und 160 °C, bevorzugt zwischen 115 und 155 °C, besonders bevorzugt zwischen 120 °C und 140 °C. Die erforderliche Untergrenze der Temperatur wird dabei durch die Fixierung der PP-Dispersion bestimmt und die Obergrenze durch die maximale Behandlungstemperatur der PP-Faser bestimmt. Wird die Untergrenze unterschritten so erfolgt zwar eine Adsorption, die Fixierung der Dispersion ist allerdings für bestimmte textile Anwendungen, bei denen es zu häufigen Reinigungen (insbesondere bei hohen Temperaturen) kommt, nicht ideal. Wird die Temperaturobergrenze überschritten, so beginnt eine thermische Veränderung der Faserstruktur der PP-Faser, was den Verlust der molekularen Orientierung und damit der spezifischen Fasereigenschaften zur Folge hätte.
  • Eine solcherart mit einer kationischen Polypropylendispersion oberflächen-behandelte Faser kann nun mit üblichen Säurefarbstoffen gefärbt werden. Analog zu Wolle und Seide verfügt die Faser nun an der Oberfläche über ausreichend kationische Ladungen, welche die Bindung des anionischen Säurefarbstoffs ermöglichen.
  • Damit lässt sich eine so behandelte PP-Faser auch vorteilhaft in Mischung mit anderen Fasern z.B. Wolle, Polyamid einbadig färben. In analoger Weise können auch andere Fasern zugemischt werden und diese nach den entsprechenden Verfahren gefärbt werden, um ein Beispiel zu nennen kann eine PP/Polyesterfasermischung nach denselben Verfahren wie eine Wolle/Polyesterfasermischung gefärbt werden.
  • Durch die Verwendung bestehender Farbstoffgruppen kann eine große Breite an Farbnuancen erreicht werden und es können übliche Färbeanlagen für die Prozesse verwendet werden. Ist die Grundlage dieser Erfindung bekannt, so können auch andere Varianten der Anwendungstechnik eingesetzt werden, z.B. Pad-Dry-Thermosol Techniken.
  • Wird die kationische Polypropylendispersion durch eine Applikationstechnik lokal aufgetragen, z.B. durch Drucken, Sprühen etc. so kann auch eine mustermäßige oder lokale Anfärbung in einem folgenden Prozess oder beim Druckprozess erreicht werden.
  • Anstelle der negativ geladenen Farbstoffe können auch funktionale Stoffe z.B. antimikrobielle Wirkstoffe, optische Aufheller an den vorhandenen kationischen Zentren in analoger Weise gebunden werden.
  • Nach Kenntnis der gegenständlichen Erfindung ist auch eine analoge Verfahrensweise durch Verwendung anionischer Polypropylendispersion möglich, wobei in diesem Falle die modifizierten Fasern eine negative Ladung tragen und die Färbung mit kationischen Farbstoffen erfolgt. Durch entsprechende Anpassung und fachmännische Optimierung kann eine Anpassung der Technik an andere Fasern erfolgen, insbesondere sind dabei die schwer zu färbenden Fasern aus UHMPE (Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) oder aromatischen Polyamide (z.B. Kevlar, Nomex), aromatische Polyester (z.B.Vextran) oder auch Glasfasern zu nennen. Dabei sind die thermischen Behandlungsbedingungen an die Beständigkeiten und Eigenschaften der Fasern entsprechend anzupassen, z.B. durch Verwendung niederschmelzender Polypropylen Dispersionen oder durch Verwendung von Polyethylen-Dispersionen.
  • ANWENDUNGSBEISPIELE: Anwendungsbeispiel 1
  • Ein Gestrick, welches aus PP-Fasern hergestellt wurde wird durch ein Imprägnierverfahren mit einer kationischen PP-Dispersion (z.B. Michem Emulsion, 28640 40 % PP Volumsanteil) imprägniert. Dabei werden die in Tabelle 1 genannten unterschiedliche Konzentrationen an PP-Dispersion aufgetragen und nach dem Trocknen bei 100 °C bei erhöhter Temperatur zwischen 110 und 155 °C fixiert. Die Flottenaufnahme beim Auftragen der Dispersion beträgt dabei ca. 100 %. Zum Vergleich werden PP-Muster derselben thermischen Behandlung unterzogen. Anschließend erfolgt ein Anfärben mit einem anionischen Farbstoff (Säurefarbstoff Nylosan Rot F-2R) mit einer Farbtiefe von 1 % (10 mg Farbstoff / g Ware) bei 60 °C (1 h), nach dem Färben wird zweimal bei 60 °C für 10 min gespült und ein weiteres Mal für 10 min mit kaltem Wasser. Die Farbstoffaufnahme kann anhand der CIELab-Koordinaten und des K/S-Wertes bei 480 nm bewertet werden. Die Stabilität der Färbung wird durch die Nassechtheit bewertet (DIN 54006, Note 5 sehr gut, Note 1 sehr schlecht). Tabelle 1.   • Die Werte der Farbkoordinaten zeigen deutlich die höhere Farbstoffaufnahme und Farbtiefe, die durch die Behandlung erreicht werden konnte. Die Echtheiten verbleiben auf gutem Niveau, durch die höhere Farbtiefe ergibt sich eine Verminderung der Echtheit.
  • Anwendungsbeispiel 2
  • Garnproben aus Vectran (aromatische Polyester, Nm36/2) und UHMPE (Ultra high molecular weight polyethylen, Nm 54/2) werden in analoger Weise zu Anwendungsbeispiel 1 behandelt und gefärbt.
  • Die Dispersion aus kationischem Polypropylen wird dabei mit Wasser verdünnt (60 % Dispersion und 40 % Wasser). Als Fixiertemperatur werden 130 °C für 10 min angewandt.   • Die Echtheiten der unbehandelten Proben wurde nicht bestimmt, da eine geringe Farbaufnahme beobachtet wurde und die Echtheit daher ohne weitere Relevanz war.
  • Fig. 1 und 2 zeigt Laser-Scanning Mikroskop Fotos von behandelten (Fig. 1) und unbehandelten PP-Fasern (Fig. 2).
  • Deutlich ist in den Figuren erkennbar, dass auf den behandelten PP-Fasern Ablagerungen durch Schichtbildung gebildet werden.
  • Auch mittels FT-IR ist die Anwesenheit von Tensiden erkennbar.

Claims (12)

  1. Verfahren zum Färben der Oberfläche eines Werkstücks mit einem Farbmittel, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück in einem ersten Schritt mit einer kationischen Polypropylendispersion imprägniert wird und in einem anschließenden zweiten Schritt mit einem anionischen Farbmittel gefärbt wird.
  2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Polypropylendispersion eine Emulsion aus Polypropylen mit einem kationischen Tensid ist.
  3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück nach dem Imprägnieren mit der kationischen Polypropylendispersion getrocknet wird.
  4. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück nach dem Imprägnieren mit der kationischen Polypropylendispersion auf über 100°C, vorzugsweise auf zwischen 110 und 155°C, erwärmt wird.
  5. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück einen Kunststoff, vorzugsweise Polypropylen, umfasst, besonders bevorzugt Polypropylenfasern aufweist.
  6. Verfahren zum Färben der Oberfläche eines Werkstücks mit einem Farbmittel, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück in einem ersten Schritt mit einer anionischen Polypropylendispersion imprägniert wird und in einem anschließenden zweiten Schritt mit einem kationischen Farbmittel gefärbt wird.
  7. Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein kationisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein anionisches Farbmittel angeordnet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Schicht auf die Oberfläche des Werkstücks angeschmolzen ist.
  8. Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein anionisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein kationisches Farbmittel angeordnet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Schicht auf die Oberfläche des Werkstücks angeschmolzen ist.
  9. Erzeugnis nach Anspruch 7 oder Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück einen Kunststoff, vorzugsweise Polypropylen, umfasst, besonders bevorzugt Polypropylenfasern aufweist.
  10. Erzeugnis nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Werkstück flächig ausgebildet ist, insbesondere zumindest ein Gewebe, ein Gestrick, ein Vlies, eine Schicht, eine Platte, ein unregelmäßig aufgebautes Werkstück oder eine Kombination daraus umfasst.
  11. Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein kationisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein anionischer Wirkstoff angeordnet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Schicht auf die Oberfläche des Werkstücks angeschmolzen ist.
  12. Erzeugnis, umfassend ein Werkstück, welches an der Oberfläche eine Schicht aufweist, welche Polypropylen und zumindest ein anionisches Tensid aufweist, wobei auf der Schicht ein kationischer Wirkstoff angeordnet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Schicht auf die Oberfläche des Werkstücks angeschmolzen ist.
