Ce vissage de la vis dans l'écrou 22 entraîne la rotation de l'écrou dans le sens horaire à l'encontre du couple de friction exercé par les éléments formant crochets 27,28 des branches 25,26 sur la face interne des parois latérales 6,7 de la cage et des efforts de compression exercés par ces parois 6,7 sur ces éléments formant crochet 27,28. Pendant cette rotation des branches lors du vissage, ces éléments formant crochet 27,28 arrivent en butée sur les portions 29c,31c des premières encoches 29,31 situées du côté des secondes encoches 30,32, dites pentes d'accrochage, puis passent de l'autre côté de ces portions après fléchissement des branches 25,26 en émettant un claquement métallique indiquant l'atteinte du bon couple de serrage, position représentée sur la figure 15. Lorsque le vissage est poursuivi, une série de claquements métalliques se fait entendre.
