Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for operating a tray sealing machine and to such a tray sealing machine.
- a tray sealing machine also called a traysealer, is used to airtightly seal a packaging tray, in which a product is inserted, with an upper film. This takes place in a sealing tool chamber which comprises an upper sealing tool part and a lower sealing tool part and can be closed in a vacuum-tight manner. Before sealing, the space around the product is usually evacuated or filled with a protective atmosphere to make the product last longer. The lower part of the sealing tool can be moved up and down, so that the open packaging trays can be placed in the sealing tool chamber and removed again after sealing.
- a gripper is used to insert and remove the packaging trays, which grips one or more packaging trays at the same time and moves them from a feed belt into the sealing tool chamber.
- the gripper also conveys the closed packaging trays from the sealing tool chamber to a tray, such as a conveyor belt.
- a tray sealing machine is from the EP 2141095 B1 known.
- additional support plates are arranged on the lower part of the sealing tool, on which the packaging trays are placed by the gripper.
- the support plates can be moved vertically in order to correctly position the packaging trays to form a sealed seam.
- a sealing plate arranged in the upper part of the sealing tool is pressed down onto the upper film and a packaging tray edge in order to seal them together, that is to say to connect them permanently and stably.
- the sealing plate can also be heated in order to form a particularly stable sealing seam.
- the object of the present invention is to make the operation of a tray sealing machine more efficient and more reliable.
- a method according to the invention for operating a tray sealing machine comprises the following method steps: The gripper grips the packaging tray, which is in particular a tray, and moves it into an interior of the opened sealing tool chamber.
- the packaging tray is placed on a support plate.
- the support surface of the support plate is usually just aligned with the transport surface of the feed belt.
- the packaging tray is then sealed to the top film by forming an airtight sealing seam in the region of the packaging tray edge in a known manner.
- the top film can be cut after sealing.
- the gripper grips the packaging tray and moves it outside of the sealing tool chamber.
- the gripper then places the packaging tray away from the support plate and the sealing tool chamber, for example on a conveyor belt.
- the method described has significant advantages in the loading process of the sealing tool chamber with the packaging shell by the gripper compared to the previously known comparable methods.
- the lower part of the sealing tool could previously have been moved upwards at high speeds using suitable drives, this and thus a reduction in the cycle time was prevented by the disruptive presence of the gripper between the lower part of the sealing tool and the upper part of the sealing tool.
- the cycle time is now reduced, since the upward movement of the packaging tray can thus already take place if the gripper is not yet is completely moved out of the sealing tool chamber.
- the lower part of the sealing tool can follow at a correspondingly higher speed, as described above.
- the speed of the upward movement has been limited because high speeds are accompanied by high positive and negative accelerations, which can have a negative effect depending on the contents of the packaging tray.
- An abrupt acceleration and braking of the packaging tray can, for example, result in the product being thrown out of the packaging tray.
- the fact that the lifting plate starts to be raised before the lower part of the sealing tool is raised now enables time to be saved by moving the packaging tray faster overall, but without the necessity of disadvantageous accelerations. It is also possible to apply lower accelerations than previously to the packaging tray for particularly sensitive products with the same cycle performance.
- the gripper grips the sealed packaging tray while it is moving downwards. It is therefore not waited until the packaging tray comes to a standstill when the sealing tool chamber is opened, but the gripper is moved into the opening sealing tool chamber at an early stage so that it holds the packaging tray even before the support plate and thus the packaging tray come to a standstill.
- the packaging tray has an inclined side edge, which increases outwards from a certain extent of the base area to a larger extent on the upper side, the packaging tray can be inserted with its side faces in the downward movement into a space between the gripper arms of the gripper up to the height of the appropriate scope.
- gripping a packaging tray is also possible with vertical side surfaces by exerting a certain force on it. In the same way, an upper edge of the packaging tray can rest on the gripping arms.
- the cycle time can be shortened accordingly, or alternatively, as described above, a gentler downward movement of the packaging tray can be realized.
- the height of the gripper in relation to the infeed and outfeed conveyor belts is to be kept constant in order to simultaneously carry out loading when the sealing tool chamber is unloaded, it is conceivable to divide the gripper arms into two sections along the conveying direction, so that a second section is located downstream closes further and / or is arranged further up than a first section upstream and thus the packaging tray coming from above engages in a higher position than a packaging tray standing on the feed belt.
- the gripper preferably grips the sealed packaging tray while it and the sealing tool lower part are moving downwards.
- the gripper thus moves into the area between the upper part of the sealing tool and the lower part of the sealing tool, i.e. the opening of the sealing tool chamber as soon as there is sufficient space, and there is no waiting until the lower part of the sealing tool has reached the lower end position. Cycle times can be reduced by 150-200 ms.
- the support plate After gripping the packaging tray by means of the gripper, the support plate is expediently moved downward after the sealing process, so that its support surface is aligned with a feed and / or discharge belt.
- the support plate has thus returned to its starting position, from which a new cycle of the tray sealing machine can start and the gripper can lift a next packaging tray from the feed belt onto the support plate. Since the backing plate moves back to the starting position while the sealed packaging tray is being moved onto the discharge belt by the gripper, no additional cycle time is required and the process is accelerated accordingly compared to previous modes of operation.
- the support plate in an uppermost position of the lower part of the sealing tool, is in a position that is lowered in relation to the lower part of the sealing tool, in which an edge of the packaging tray rests on a tray support.
- the sealing seam can be formed. Due to the fact that the support plate is lowered within the lower part of the sealing tool, it has to travel a correspondingly smaller distance in the upward movement, which in turn saves the cycle time accordingly.
- the lower part of the sealing tool when the packaging tray is placed on the support plate, the lower part of the sealing tool is moved upward, so that the packaging tray at least partially gets between the edge support.
- the support plate thus remains essentially stationary and is thus lowered in relation to the lower part of the sealing tool.
- the edge support thus serves as a guide in its vertical extension to the side of the support plate and prevents the packaging tray from tipping over and slipping off the support plate.
- the same guidance can also be provided by a shell receptacle, that is to say a recess in the lower part of the sealing tool, the edges of which delimit the range of movement of the support plate, the shell receptacle not serving, or only indirectly, as an edge support.
- a stroke of the support plate can be adjusted for packaging trays with different heights.
- the tray sealing machine can be used for packaging trays of different sizes.
- the control of the drive for example a servo or stepper motor, has to be adapted in order to change the stroke distance, that is to say the vertical travel path, of the support plate.
- the packaging tray is preferably sucked onto the support plate by means of a vacuum.
- openings can be arranged in the support surface of the support plate, which with are connected to a vacuum system in a manner known to those skilled in the art.
- the packaging tray is additionally fixed and secured against slipping, which is particularly advantageous at higher speeds.
- particularly light packaging trays for example made of cardboard, can be moved safely. Even if the backing plate has been inserted into the lower part of the sealing tool so that the top of the packaging tray rests on the edge support and therefore no longer on the backing plate, the negative pressure formed can bring about additional stabilization of the packaging tray.
- the invention also relates to a tray sealing machine configured to perform a method as described above.
- Figure 1 shows a tray closing machine 1 according to the invention with a sealing tool lower part 3 and a sealing tool upper part 5, which together form a sealing tool chamber 7, which is open in this illustration.
- a gripper 9 is used to move a packaging tray 11 from a feed belt 13 into the interior 8 of the sealing tool chamber 7 onto a support plate 15 arranged on the lower sealing tool part 3 and from there onto a removal belt 17 after the sealing process.
- the support plate 15 is driven by a drive 19, for example Servo or stepper motor, moves.
- Another drive 20 initiates the movement of the lower sealing tool part 3.
- An electronic control unit 21 is used for the automated control of the drives 19, 20 and the gripper 9 and possibly other components, such as for example the supply and discharge conveyor belts 13, 17 by means of corresponding further drives.
- a sealing plate 23 is arranged in the upper sealing tool part 5, which can be displaced vertically in relation to the upper sealing tool part 5 in order to press an upper film 25 onto edges 27 of the packaging tray 11 and thus seal the packaging tray 11.
- the support plate 15 is lowered to such an extent that the edges 27 rest on an edge support 29 of the lower sealing tool part 3, as in FIG Figure 2C shown.
- the gripper 9 comprises two gripper arms 31 which are opened and closed or approximated in order to clamp a packaging tray 11 between them, that is to say to grip them.
- the present figure merely schematically reproduces the concept of a tray closing machine 1 and that the components are actually present in an arrangement that makes sense for the mode of operation.
- the gripper 9 is usually arranged such that it grips the packaging trays 11 from a position rotated by 90 ° for illustration, that is to say perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the conveyor belts 13, 17.
- Figure 2A shows the sealing tool lower part 3 with the support plate 15, which has a support surface 16, the support plate 15 being at a height such that the support surface 16 is aligned with the feed and / or discharge conveyor belt 13, 17.
- the gripper 9 has gripped a packaging tray 11 and moved it from the feed belt 13 to the support plate 15 in order to place the packaging tray 11 on the support plate 15, in which the gripper 9 opens.
- Figure 2B shows the opened gripper 9, which is still in an outward movement but still in the area of the sealing tool chamber 7, so that the sealing tool lower part 3 cannot yet move upwards in order to close the sealing tool chamber 7.
- the support plate 15 is already moved upwards to a height which corresponds to a maximum stroke Z between a lowermost and an uppermost position of the support plate 15 with respect to the lower sealing part 3.
- Figure 2C shows the gripper 9 moved out of the area of the sealing tool chamber 7, so that the lower sealing tool part 3 and the upper sealing tool part 5 can form a sealing tool chamber 7.
- the sealing tool lower part 3 was moved upwards to this uppermost position at high speed. Due to the relatively slower upward movement of the support plate 15 relative to the lower part 3 of the sealing tool, the latter is moved into the lower part 3 of the sealing tool.
- the packaging tray 11 lies with its edges 27 on the edge support 29, so that the packaging tray 11 can be sealed with the top film 25 by pressing the top film 25 onto the edges 27 by means of the sealing plate 23.
- the support plate 15 is in its lowest position, which thus also determines the stroke Z and from the height H of the packaging tray 11 depends, since it is sufficient to retract the support plate 15 only until the packaging tray 11 with its edges 27 just lies on the edge support 29.
- Figure 2D shows the lower sealing tool part 3 already moved so far down again that the gripper 9 can move between the lower sealing tool part 3 and the upper sealing tool part 5 in order to grip the closed packaging tray 11. Due to the slower movement of the support plate 15 in comparison to the lower sealing tool part 3, the supporting plate 15 is extended from the lower sealing tool part 3.
- the support plate 15 and thus the packaging tray 11 can continue to move downward while the gripper 9 grips the packaging tray 11.
- the support plate 15 executes the downward movement until it is again in one plane with the lower sealing tool part 3 and with the feed and / or discharge belt 13, 17 and thus in the starting position Figure 1 and 2A located.
- the gripper 9 is designed in such a way that one or more sealed packaging trays 11 in the sealing tool chamber 7 and at the same time one or more open packaging trays 11 are gripped on the feed belt 13 and the former then on the conveyor belt 17 and the latter on the support plate 15 in the sealing tool chamber 7 are stored.

Description
The present invention relates to a method for operating a tray sealing machine and to such a tray sealing machine.
The object of the present invention is to make the operation of a tray sealing machine more efficient and more reliable.
The object is achieved by a method for operating a tray closing machine according to claim 1 and a tray closing machine according to
After the packaging tray with a product therein was first brought into the area of a gripper and a sealing tool chamber, which is usually by means of a If a conveyor belt occurs, a method according to the invention for operating a tray sealing machine, in particular a traysealer, comprises the following method steps:
The gripper grips the packaging tray, which is in particular a tray, and moves it into an interior of the opened sealing tool chamber.
In the area of the interior of the opened sealing tool chamber, which comprises an upper sealing tool part and a lower sealing tool part, the packaging tray is placed on a support plate. The support surface of the support plate is usually just aligned with the transport surface of the feed belt.
The packaging tray is then sealed to the top film by forming an airtight sealing seam in the region of the packaging tray edge in a known manner. In addition, the top film can be cut after sealing.
The gripper grips the packaging tray and moves it outside of the sealing tool chamber.
The gripper then places the packaging tray away from the support plate and the sealing tool chamber, for example on a conveyor belt.
- A) After placing the packaging tray on the support plate, the support plate and the packaging tray located thereon are raised and the gripper is moved out of the interior of the sealing tool chamber at least in phases at the same time.
If the gripper is in a position in which it no longer interferes with a movement of the lower sealing tool part, the lower sealing tool part is raised until it comes into contact with the upper sealing tool part in order to close the sealing tool chamber. At the same time, the support plate performs a relatively slower upward movement at least in phases than the lower part of the sealing tool and thus moves into the lower part of the sealing tool. This retraction movement of the support plate usually takes place until a lateral edge of the packaging tray rests on an edge support arranged on the lower part of the sealing tool. When the sealing tool chamber is closed, in usually an upper film, which is used to close the packaging tray, is clamped on all sides between the lower part of the sealing tool and the upper part of the sealing tool. The area below the top film, and thus the interior of the then closed packaging tray, can thus be evacuated and / or filled with a protective gas. - B) In addition or as an alternative to process steps A), the following process step follows after sealing the packaging tray:
Lowering of the lower part of the sealing tool and thus opening of the sealing tool chamber, at least at times at the same time the support plate making a relatively slower downward movement than the lower part of the sealing tool and thus being extended out of the lower part of the sealing tool.
The method described has significant advantages in the loading process of the sealing tool chamber with the packaging shell by the gripper compared to the previously known comparable methods. Although the lower part of the sealing tool could previously have been moved upwards at high speeds using suitable drives, this and thus a reduction in the cycle time was prevented by the disruptive presence of the gripper between the lower part of the sealing tool and the upper part of the sealing tool. Due to the new process step according to variant A), in which the support plate is already moved upwards while the gripper is being moved out of the still open sealing tool chamber, the cycle time is now reduced, since the upward movement of the packaging tray can thus already take place if the gripper is not yet is completely moved out of the sealing tool chamber. If this has happened, however, the lower part of the sealing tool can follow at a correspondingly higher speed, as described above. Up to now, the speed of the upward movement has been limited because high speeds are accompanied by high positive and negative accelerations, which can have a negative effect depending on the contents of the packaging tray. An abrupt acceleration and braking of the packaging tray can, for example, result in the product being thrown out of the packaging tray. The fact that the lifting plate starts to be raised before the lower part of the sealing tool is raised now enables time to be saved by moving the packaging tray faster overall, but without the necessity of disadvantageous accelerations. It is also possible to apply lower accelerations than previously to the packaging tray for particularly sensitive products with the same cycle performance.
The design of the method step for opening the sealing tool chamber according to variant B), in which the support plate is extended from the lower sealing tool part while it is moving downward, also saves time for the same reasons.
In an advantageous variant, the gripper grips the sealed packaging tray while it is moving downwards. It is therefore not waited until the packaging tray comes to a standstill when the sealing tool chamber is opened, but the gripper is moved into the opening sealing tool chamber at an early stage so that it holds the packaging tray even before the support plate and thus the packaging tray come to a standstill. If the packaging tray has an inclined side edge, which increases outwards from a certain extent of the base area to a larger extent on the upper side, the packaging tray can be inserted with its side faces in the downward movement into a space between the gripper arms of the gripper up to the height of the appropriate scope. However, gripping a packaging tray is also possible with vertical side surfaces by exerting a certain force on it. In the same way, an upper edge of the packaging tray can rest on the gripping arms.
By moving the gripper into the area between the upper sealing tool part and the lower sealing tool part and gripping the packaging tray while it is still in motion, the cycle time can be shortened accordingly, or alternatively, as described above, a gentler downward movement of the packaging tray can be realized.
If the height of the gripper in relation to the infeed and outfeed conveyor belts is to be kept constant in order to simultaneously carry out loading when the sealing tool chamber is unloaded, it is conceivable to divide the gripper arms into two sections along the conveying direction, so that a second section is located downstream closes further and / or is arranged further up than a first section upstream and thus the packaging tray coming from above engages in a higher position than a packaging tray standing on the feed belt.
The gripper preferably grips the sealed packaging tray while it and the sealing tool lower part are moving downwards. The gripper thus moves into the area between the upper part of the sealing tool and the lower part of the sealing tool, i.e. the opening of the sealing tool chamber as soon as there is sufficient space, and there is no waiting until the lower part of the sealing tool has reached the lower end position. Cycle times can be reduced by 150-200 ms.
After gripping the packaging tray by means of the gripper, the support plate is expediently moved downward after the sealing process, so that its support surface is aligned with a feed and / or discharge belt. The support plate has thus returned to its starting position, from which a new cycle of the tray sealing machine can start and the gripper can lift a next packaging tray from the feed belt onto the support plate. Since the backing plate moves back to the starting position while the sealed packaging tray is being moved onto the discharge belt by the gripper, no additional cycle time is required and the process is accelerated accordingly compared to previous modes of operation.
In a common variant, in an uppermost position of the lower part of the sealing tool, the support plate is in a position that is lowered in relation to the lower part of the sealing tool, in which an edge of the packaging tray rests on a tray support. In this way, as described above, the sealing seam can be formed. Due to the fact that the support plate is lowered within the lower part of the sealing tool, it has to travel a correspondingly smaller distance in the upward movement, which in turn saves the cycle time accordingly.
In a further variant, when the packaging tray is placed on the support plate, the lower part of the sealing tool is moved upward, so that the packaging tray at least partially gets between the edge support. The support plate thus remains essentially stationary and is thus lowered in relation to the lower part of the sealing tool. The edge support thus serves as a guide in its vertical extension to the side of the support plate and prevents the packaging tray from tipping over and slipping off the support plate. The same guidance can also be provided by a shell receptacle, that is to say a recess in the lower part of the sealing tool, the edges of which delimit the range of movement of the support plate, the shell receptacle not serving, or only indirectly, as an edge support.
Usually, a stroke of the support plate can be adjusted for packaging trays with different heights. The tray sealing machine can be used for packaging trays of different sizes. In this case, only the control of the drive, for example a servo or stepper motor, has to be adapted in order to change the stroke distance, that is to say the vertical travel path, of the support plate.
The packaging tray is preferably sucked onto the support plate by means of a vacuum. For this purpose, openings can be arranged in the support surface of the support plate, which with are connected to a vacuum system in a manner known to those skilled in the art. The packaging tray is additionally fixed and secured against slipping, which is particularly advantageous at higher speeds. In addition, particularly light packaging trays, for example made of cardboard, can be moved safely. Even if the backing plate has been inserted into the lower part of the sealing tool so that the top of the packaging tray rests on the edge support and therefore no longer on the backing plate, the negative pressure formed can bring about additional stabilization of the packaging tray.
The process steps are shown in the context of this description for the processing of a packaging tray per process cycle; However, it goes without saying that two or more packaging trays can also be processed at the same time, for which a corresponding number of support plates are available and the gripper is designed accordingly.
The invention also relates to a tray sealing machine configured to perform a method as described above.

On the basis of the above-described embodiments of a method for operating a tray sealing machine, many variations of the same are possible. Thus, as already mentioned,
