Definitions

  • the present invention belongs to the cosmetic field and relates to a silicone-free shampoo composition for human hair comprising at least one PPG-alkyl ether, at least one cationic conditioning polymer and at least one anionic, amphoteric and/or non-ionic surfactant.
  • a beautiful and attractive appearance is a desire for many people.
  • One of the main aspects, which defines such a positive appearance is the look of the hair of the head.
  • customers In order to take care on the hair customers usually apply a number of cosmetic products on a daily basis. Typically, this starts with washing the hair using a commercial shampoo product.
  • Such shampoos contain surfactants which remove excess of soil or sebum from the hair.
  • the surfactants are usually chosen from anionic, cationic, amphoteric and non-ionic surfactants.
  • anionic surfactants are contained in the shampoo compositions, as they promote the formation of foam and ensure an effective removal of dirt, soil and/or sebum.
  • a leave-in or rinse-off conditioning composition may be applied after washing to the hair.
  • a composition usually contains as surfactants solely cationic surfactants, which, in difference to other surfactants, do not allow for an effective cleaning of the hair. Instead, the hydrophilic ends of the cationic surfactants may bind to the creatine of the hair and the hydrophobic ends of the cationic surfactants may act as protective a layer for the hair.
  • such conditioning compositions often contain for example film-forming polymers, moisturizers, hydrolyzed proteins and/or antistatic agents.
  • a leave-in or rinse-off conditioner requires a second, time consuming step after washing the hair. Therefore, it is desirable to provide a composition which cleans and conditions the hair simultaneously.
  • the second way to improve the detangling and the combability of the hair can be achieved by applying a shampoo composition which contains silicone components. Silicones are excellent conditioner which may be effectively deposited onto the hair even while being implemented in a shampoo composition containing anionic, amphoteric and/or non-ionic surfactants. Thereby, the silicones provide improved compatibility, feel, softness, and lessening frizz. However, it is a well-known fact that silicone residues can build-up on the hair. As a result, these silicone residues weigh down the hair, which reduces the hair volume.
  • silicone-free shampoo composition have a number of disadvantages.
  • those shampoos often do not allow for an effective deposition of conditioning polymers onto the hair in the presence of anionic surfactants. Therefore, it is hardly possible to provide a silicone-free shampoo composition which allows to clean the hair and to apply a protective conditioning layer simultaneously.
  • silicone-free shampoo compositions do often not allow a sufficiently easy detangling while combing the wet hair after washing and/or the combability of the hair is adversely affected after washing.
  • many silicone-free shampoo compositions do not build-up a large amount of foam while washing the hair, wherein insufficiently small foam-bubbles are formed.
  • the objective of the present invention is therefore, to provide a silicone-free shampoo composition, which allows for an effective cleaning of the hair and which does not exhibit the disadvantages discussed above.
  • WO 2014077826 A1 discloses a cleansing composition containing anionic surfactants and alkoxylated alkyl ether.
  • the document does not disclose compositions containing cationic conditioning polymers. Therefore, the document does not direct the skilled person to the objective of the present invention.
  • a silicone-free shampoo composition comprising at least one PPG-alkyI ether, at least one cationic conditioning polymer and at least one anionic, amphoteric and/or non-ionic surfactant allows for a significant improved deposition of conditioning polymers onto the hair.
  • a silicone-free shampoo composition allows for a significant improvement of the detangling and/or combability of the hair, after use of the shampoo composition.
  • shampoo compositions according to the invention allow for an improved foam formation during washing the hair.
