They find particular application in the automotive industry when viscous materials must be applied to body panels. Most such devices have a follower plate which rests on the surface of the material in the container and follows this surface as the material level drops. The material is removed from the container by means of a feed pump connected to a material outlet in the follower plate, with the follower plate following the material surface.
