Description
The invention relates to a Farbrakeltopf for use in the indirect printing of a surface by means of a pad printing machine, with a unilaterally open ink container comprising a color space for receiving and storing applied to a cliché ink and at least one doctor blade for doctoring off excess ink from the cliché, and with a communicating with the color space vent for pad printing.
In closed ink fountain systems, the ink fountain pots mentioned above are used in a known manner for storing and supplying printing ink to a plate and for doctoring off the ink from the cliche, the term "pot" not implying that these are cylindrical containers. In such a doctoring cup is typically filled only shortly before the start of printing ink. The printing ink is typically a one- or two-component ink, which additionally contains a solvent which can make up a substantial proportion, for example 20%, of the printing ink and influences its viscosity. Also, a water base of an ink is considered as a solvent in the interest here.
During the execution of the printing operation, the ink fountain pot is naturally reciprocated in the execution of the squeegee movement. This creates frictional heat, and inside the paint pot, overpressure builds up due to thermal expansion and, more importantly, solvent evaporation. Therefore, in the case of ink jet pots in question, a vent has been formed in an upper region of the paint container to allow vaporized solvent to escape and no overpressure hindering the process to form the ink between the ink container and the cliche is created inside the ink ribbon pot. Since the evaporation of solvent takes place in considerable quantity, it is the practice of the past that during a typical For example, an industrial time interval of, for example, eight hours running time of a pad printing machine is replenished with solvent several times, which typically occurs through the vent opening. This is necessary because otherwise the viscosity of the ink would increase too much due to solvent loss.
To counteract the problem of increasing the viscosity of the ink in some other way or in addition, the amount of ink typically required for an industrial time interval which is input to the paint pot was significantly exceeded. It was therefore worked with significantly more ink than is required for the time interval considered to limit a reduction in the proportion of solvent based on the Farbrakeltopf still in the remaining amount of paint, so that the evaporation of the solvent is not associated with too high an increase in viscosity. After the end of the time interval, the excess amount of ink had to be discarded, which is disadvantageous in ecological and economic terms.
The present invention has for its object to better address the problems described above, as has been practiced since.
This object is achieved on the basis of a Farbrakeltopf of the type mentioned in the present invention, that within the color space a riser is provided, wherein the riser during normal use of the Farbrakeltopfs at one end dips into the ink and the other fluidly sealed relative to the color space and the other end or at least above communicating in the riser liquid level with the vent communicates.
If, in the case of a design according to the invention, the color ink pot evaporates from the surface of the ink contained therein as a result of the reciprocating motion and the heat increase solvent is prevented according to the invention that this solvent readily escapes from the paint container. It is rather prevented from escaping into the atmosphere. Nevertheless, an excessive increase in pressure within the ink container is prevented by the gas phase above the liquid surface displacing the liquid in the riser upwards. In addition, there is also, ie within the riser, also a evaporation of solvent instead, which can escape via the vent. However, the amount of solvent thus removed from the ink is much lower than that of the riser due to the much lower surface area of the ink within the riser, that is the size of the phase boundary between the liquid and gas phases, so that overall solvent loss is significantly reduced can. The reduction of the solvent loss brought about according to the invention is the more significant the larger the diameter of the ink jet pot is, since in such case the ratio of the inner diameter of the riser pipe remains constant for the evaporation decisive surface of the color column within the riser to the surrounding surface of the ink within the ink container is even lower.
If one considers, for example, a paint pot with a diameter of 90 mm 2 , its internal cross-sectional area is approximately 6400 mm 2 . If the riser pipe has an internal cross-sectional area of 50 mm 2 , its area fraction is less than 1%. With further enlargement of the doctoring cup, the ratio is even lower. The responsible for the evaporation color surface within the riser thus drops to a value of well below 1%, compared to the area in since then known ink cartridges.
Due to the fact that the solvent evaporating outside the riser pipe, that is to say from the surface of the printing ink-tightly sealed by the ink container, can not escape, the partial pressure of the solvent within the gas space of the ink container increases, which also limits further evaporation.
On the one hand, the present invention has the advantage that, during a typical industrial time interval, no solvent has to be replenished into the paint pot. It has been found that when using a paint pot of conventional size, a life of eight hours can be readily realized. The Applicant has for this purpose experiments with a known Farbrakeltopf and inventively designed Doctor cup otherwise carried out the same size. In both cases, a printing ink having an initial viscosity of 1000 mPas was used. After an eight-hour printing process and doctor blade operation in a pad printing machine without refilling the known Farbrakeltopfs with solvent, the viscosity of the remaining ink was determined. It was in the known Farbrakeltopf at 2100 mPas and the ink tray according to the invention at only 1280 mPas. The slight increase in viscosity within the ink jet pot according to the invention, however, does not become noticeable in terms of printing technology, so that it is possible to work without solvent within a standard industrial life of eight hours without refilling.
A very significant further advantage of the ink jet pot according to the invention, in addition to the reduction of solvent consumption and the associated odor nuisance is also in a saving of printing ink. Namely, due to the reduction in solvent consumption, the amount of ink stored within the inkwell can be significantly reduced. Thus, it is no longer necessary to provide significantly more ink within the inkwell to limit the percentage solvent loss within the ink.
Due to the significantly reduced viscosity change of the printing ink, process reliability during the printing process is also improved. The process is more stable, and although just with decreasing amount of ink towards the end of the industrial time interval out. It achieves a higher long-term print quality, which can be consistently realized over the entire considered typical industrial time interval of, for example, eight hours.
It would be conceivable that the vent opening of the ink jet pot according to the invention is limited by the riser itself, by the riser is passed through the paint container.
It would also be conceivable for the vent opening to be formed or delimited by a line section or connecting piece or a connecting sleeve sealed into the paint container or by the paint container itself and to connect the riser pipe to the line section or the connecting piece or the connecting sleeve in a communicating manner with the venting opening is. In the simplest case, the line section is attached to the inwardly projecting into the paint container line section or connection piece and is then preferably held clamped.
It proves to be further advantageous if the vent opening with a pressure reservoir, preferably outside of the color space, is flow connected. In this way, always the same pressure can be maintained above the phase boundary between the ink and the gas phase within the riser.
For this purpose, it proves to be the simplest and therefore advantageous if the vent is fluidly connected to the atmospheric environment of the paint container. In this case, the vent opens as before in the environment of the Farbrakeltopfs.
It is further proposed that the riser is arranged inside the ink container such that its open end immersed in the ink is at least 1 mm, in particular at least 2 mm, in particular at least 3 mm, in particular at least 4 mm, in particular at least 5 mm, and preferably at most 10 mm , in particular at most 9 mm, in particular at most 8 mm, in particular at most 7 mm, and further in particular at most 6 mm from a contact plane of the Farbrakeltopfs to the cliché is spaced. A distance of about 4 to 6 mm, in particular of about 5 mm, is considered to be particularly suitable and advantageous. This is due, in particular, to the fact that, when the inking pot is moved back and forth in the course of the doctor blade movement, the ink can flow past the riser pipe within the doctoring cup, but also past the end of the riser pipe. As a result, pressure pulses are introduced into the riser, whereby a solidification of the ink on the surface within the riser, so at the phase boundary, can be reliably prevented.
Also in view of this, it proves to be advantageous that the riser has an inner cross-sectional area of at least 30 mm 2 , in particular of at least 40 mm 2 , in particular of at most 100 mm 2 , in particular of at most 80 mm 2 , in particular of at most 60 mm 2 , and preferably of 50 mm 2 .
Furthermore, it proves to be advantageous that a cross-sectional area of the riser is at most 5%, in particular at most 2%, in particular at most 1.5%, in particular at most 1.0% of the cross-sectional area of the remaining color space. The riser itself may be formed of a rigid material or of a semi-rigid material. In this sense, a semi-rigid material is understood as one which can be slightly deflected back and forth due to the movement of the blade due to its inertia. The material may advantageously be a thermoplastic elastomer, for example the trade name Mapren. A material with a Shore A hardness of 40-90, especially 50-80 is considered to be advantageous. The hardness can be determined in particular according to ASTM D 2240.
It may also prove to be advantageous if the vent opens through a nozzle or nipple limited outside of the paint container and can be covered by a removable cap or by an adjustable between a closed position and an open position closure element.

The ink container 4 defines a
The paint container 4 further comprises a
The
The
Characterized in that the inner cross-sectional area of the
