Description

Description
Improved fully mortise handle and improved fully mortise lock.
The present patent application for industrial invention relates to a fully-mortise handle for panels of doors or drawers; the invention also relates to a lock provided with two of said handles, as well as to a panel provided with said lock
In order to understand the advantages of the present invention, a handle and a lock according to the prior art are described with reference to some drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a top view of a lock according to the prior art composed of two handles; said lock is sectioned with a horizontal plane at half of its height; said lock comprises first levers that act as opening levers;
Figures 2 and 3 are two axonometric views showing a portion of a door panel, respectively from the internal side and from the external side, provided with the lock of Fig. 1 , the first levers of which are flush to the front side and to the back side of the door panel;
- Fig. 4 is the same as Fig. 3, except for it shows the finger of a user inserted in the compartment in order to pull the door panel towards himself/herself without grabbing the first lever of the handle:
Fig. 5 is an exploded axonometric view of the lock of Fig. 1 . The lock shown in Figs. 1 , 2 and 3 is a so-called mortise lock, i.e. it comprises first levers for actuating a striker, which do not protrude from the door panel.
More precisely, the lock comprises two handles, each of them comprising a box support frame (T) intended to be completely inserted into a recess obtained on the door panel. The support frame (T) comprises a front wall (T1 ) mounted flush with the door panel and a compartment (V) disposed behind said front wall (T1 ). As shown in Fig. 5, for each side of the lock, the front wall (T1 ) of the support frame (T) is provided with an opening (A) used to access the compartment (V).
Moreover, for each side, the lock comprises a first lever (1 ) that actuates the striker (N) shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
Each first lever (1 ) is pivoted to the support frame (T) in correspondence of the opening (A) and can be:
- in an idle position, wherein it is flush with the front wall (T1 ) of the support frame (T) and partially covers the opening (A), as shown in Figs. 1 , 2 and 3;
- in an operating position, wherein it protrudes frontally with respect to the front wall (T1 ) of the support frame (T) (such an operating position is not shown in the attached figures).
Additionally, the lock comprises at least one retention member disposed in the support frame (T) and configured in such a way to push every first lever (1 ) into idle position. Such a retention element (not shown in the attached figures) advantageously consists in a spring.
The main problem of a similar lock is encountered when a user needs to close the door panel by pulling it towards himself/herself. The first lever (1 ) of the lock is the only holding point. Therefore, the user must grab said first lever (1 ) and pull the door panel towards himself/herself until it stops against the secondary frame.
When pulling the first lever (1 ), however, the striker (N) is retracted and, when the door panel stops against the secondary frame, the striker (N) cannot enter the corresponding housing obtained on the secondary frame, because the first lever (1 ) is in operating position.
For this reason the volume of the compartment (V) of the support frame of the handle is increased to create a niche where the user can introduce his or her finger in order to pull the door panel towards himself/herself without having to necessarily grab the first lever (1 ), as shown in Fig. 4. However, the making of said niche increases the cost of the lock because the process requires complicated works due to undercuts in the support frame (T). Moreover, by increasing the internal volume of the support frame (T) - which is obtained by adding the volume of the compartment (V) to the volume of said niche - also the recess to be made on the door panel in order to house the lock will increase.
US5560659 discloses a door handle assembly for a motor vehicle which acts to preclude inadvertent unlatching of the door in response to a side impact.
WO2007144294 discloses an actuating device of an electromechanical lock for opening and/or closing a movable part of a vehicle, in particular a door, a tailgate or the like.
GB1 120527 discloses a handle of a motor vehicle door revolvingly mounted inside a housing obtained in the door. Said door has an opening to access the housing, in such a way that a user can introduce his or her finger inside the housing and actuate the handle.
The purpose of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of the prior art by disclosing a handle without a visible cavity and provided with a holding point that allows the user to pull the door towards himself/herself without simultaneously actuating the striker.
An additional purpose of the present invention is to disclose a lock and a door panel provided with said handle.
The handle of the invention has the same structural configuration as a handle of the prior art as described above, except for it comprises a second lever pivoted to the support frame in correspondence of the opening of the support frame.
Said second lever can be:
- in an idle position, wherein it is flush with the front wall of the support frame and partially covers the opening;
- in an operating position, wherein it protrudes, at least partially, towards the back with respect to the front wall of the support frame and it protrudes frontally, at least partially. When the first and the second lever are in idle position, said first and second lever completely close the opening of the support frame. In this way, when the door panel does not need to be moved and is in closing position, the first and the second lever completely cover the opening of the support frame and, therefore, the handle does not have any visible cavity.
The peculiarity of the handle according to the invention consists in that the second lever has a pivoting axis that divides said second lever into a first portion and a second portion. The first portion of the second lever is adjacent to the first lever and is disposed inside the compartment of the handle when the second lever is in operating position. The second portion of the second lever frontally protrudes from the support frame, when the second lever is in operating position, acting as holding portion for the user in order to pull the handle of the invention towards himself/herself without actuating the striker.
For the sake of clarity, the description of the handle, of the lock and of the door panel according to the invention continues with reference to the attached drawings, which have a merely illustrative, not limiting value, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a top view of a lock according to the prior art composed of two handles; said lock is sectioned with a horizontal plane at half of its height; said lock comprises first levers that act as opening levers;
Fig. 2 and 3 are two axonometric views showing a portion of a door panel, respectively from the internal side and from the external side, provided with the lock of Fig. 1 , the first levers of which are flush to the front side and to the back side of the door panel;
Fig. 4 is the same as Fig. 3, except for it shows the finger of a user inserted in the compartment in order to pull the door panel towards himself/herself without grabbing the first lever of the handle:
Fig. 5 is an exploded axonometric view of the lock of Fig. 1 ; - Fig. 6 is a top view of a lock according to the invention; said lock comprises two handles according to the invention and is sectioned with a horizontal plane at half of its height; Fig. 7 is an axonometric view of a handle according to the invention;
Figs. 8 and 9 are two axonometric views showing a portion of a door panel according to the invention, respectively from the internal side and from the external side; said door panel being provided with the lock of Fig. 6, the first levers of which are flush to the front side and to the back side of the door panel.
In the following description the parts that are identical or correspond to the parts described above are identified with the same numerals, omitting their detailed description.
With reference to Figs. 6 to 9, the handle of the invention comprises a second lever (2) pivoted to the support frame (T) in correspondence of the opening (A).
The second lever (2) can be:
- in an idle position, wherein the second lever (2) is flush with the front wall (T1 ) of the support frame and partially covers the opening (A) of the support frame, as shown in Fig. 8;
- in an operating position wherein the second lever (2) protrudes from behind with respect to the front wall (T1 ) of the support frame (T), as shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 9.
The second lever (2) in idle position and the first lever (1 ) in idle position completely cover the opening (A), as shown in Fig. 8.
With reference to Fig. 7, the second lever (2) has a pivoting axis (Y- Y) that divides the second lever (2) into a first portion (21 ) and a second portion (22).
The first portion (21 ) of the second lever (2) is adjacent to the first lever (1 ) and can rotate inside the compartment (V), when the second lever (2) is in operating position. Vice versa, when the second lever (2) is in operating position, the second portion (22) of the second lever, rotates out of the compartment (V) in order to act as holding portion for the user to pull the handle of the invention towards himself/herself, without actuating the striker (N), as shown in Fig. 9. It must be noted that Figs. 8 and 9 show a lock comprising two handles, each of them being intended to be disposed flush with one of the two sides of a door panel. In any case, Fig. 7 shows a single handle of the invention, which is intended to be installed flush with one of the two sides of a door panel.
