Description

Improved full mortise handle and improved full mortise lock
Technical Field
The present patent application for industrial invention relates to a full mortise handle for a panel of a door or drawer; the invention also relates to a lock provided with two such handles, and to a panel provided with such a lock.
Background
In order to understand the advantages of the present invention, a handle and a lock according to the prior art are described with reference to some drawings, in which:
figure 1 is a top view of a lock consisting of two handles according to the prior art; the lock is truncated by a horizontal plane at half its height; the lock includes a first lever serving as an opening lever;
figures 2 and 3 are two isometric views, respectively showing a portion of the door panel from the inside and from the outside, provided with the lock of figure 1, with its first lever flush with the front side and flush with the back side of the door panel;
figure 4 is identical to figure 3, except that it shows the insertion of the fingers of the user into the cavity in order to pull the door panel towards himself/herself without gripping the first lever of the handle;
figure 5 is an exploded isometric view of the lock of figure 1.
The lock shown in fig. 1, 2 and 3 is a so-called mortice lock, i.e. it comprises a first lever for actuating the striker, which does not protrude from the door panel.
More precisely, the lock comprises two handles, each comprising a box-shaped support frame (T) for full insertion into a groove located on the door panel. The support frame (T) comprises a front wall (T1) mounted flush with the door panel and a cavity (V) arranged behind said front wall (T1).
As shown in fig. 5, for each side of the lock, the front wall (T1) of the support frame (T) is provided with an opening (a) for accessing the cavity (V).
Furthermore, for each side, the lock comprises a first lever (1) which actuates the striker (N) shown in fig. 2 and 3.
Each first lever (1) is pivoted to the supporting frame (T) in correspondence of the opening (a) and can:
-in an idle position, in which it is flush with the front wall (T1) of the support frame (T) and partially covers the opening (a), as shown in fig. 1, 2 and 3;
-in an operating position in which it projects forward with respect to the front wall (T1) of the support frame (T) (such operating position is not shown in the figures).
In addition, the lock comprises at least one retaining member arranged in the support frame (T) and configured to push each first lever (1) into the idle position. Advantageously, such a retaining member (not shown in the drawings) is a spring.
A major problem like a lock is encountered when a user needs to close the door panel by pulling it towards him/herself. The first lever (1) of the lock is the only holding point. Therefore, the user must grasp said first lever (1) and pull the door panel towards himself/herself until it abuts against the auxiliary frame.
However, when the first lever (1) is pulled, the striker (N) is retracted, and when the door panel abuts against the auxiliary frame, the striker (N) cannot enter the corresponding housing located on the auxiliary frame because the first lever (1) is in the operating position.
For this reason, the volume of the cavity (V) of the support frame of the handle increases, creating a niche in which the user can introduce his or her fingers in order to pull the door panel towards him/herself, without having to grasp the first lever (1), as shown in fig. 4.
However, the manufacture of the niche increases the cost of the lock, since this process requires a complex work due to the undercut in the support frame (T). Furthermore, by increasing the internal volume of the support frame (T), obtained by adding the volume of the cavity (V) to the volume of the niche, the recess to be made in the door panel to accommodate the lock is also increased.
US5560659 discloses a door handle assembly for a motor vehicle for preventing accidental unlocking of the door in response to a side impact.
WO2007144294 discloses an actuating device for an electromechanical lock for opening and/or closing a movable part of a vehicle, in particular a door, tailgate, etc.
GB 1120527 discloses a handle for a motor vehicle door which is rotatably mounted within a housing located in the door. The door has an opening into the housing so that a user can insert his or her fingers into the housing and actuate the handle.
Disclosure of Invention
Summary of the inventionthe object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of the prior art by disclosing a handle which has no visible cavity and is provided with a retaining point allowing the user to pull the door towards him/herself without simultaneously actuating the striker.
It is another object of the present invention to disclose a lock and door panel having the handle.
The handle of the present invention has the same structural configuration as the prior art handle as described above, except that it includes a second lever pivotally coupled to the support frame corresponding to the opening of the support frame.
The second lever may:
-in an idle position, in which it is flush with the front wall of the support frame and partially covers the opening;
in an operating position, in which it projects at least partially backwards with respect to the front wall of the support frame, and in which it projects at least partially forwards.
The first and second levers completely close the opening of the support frame when the first and second levers are in the idle position. In this way, when the door panel does not need to be moved and is in the closed position, the first and second levers completely cover the opening of the support frame, and therefore the handle does not have any visible cavity.
The handle according to the invention is characterized in that the second lever has a pivot axis which divides said second lever into a first part and a second part. The first portion of the second lever is adjacent the first lever and is disposed within the cavity of the handle when the second lever is in the operating position. When the second lever is in the operating position, the second portion of the second lever projects forward from the support frame, serving as a holding portion for the user to pull the handle of the present invention toward himself/herself without actuating the striker.
Drawings
For the sake of clarity, the handle, lock and door panel according to the invention continue to be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which are given by way of illustration only and not by way of limitation, and in which:
figure 1 is a top view of a lock consisting of two handles according to the prior art; the lock is truncated by a horizontal plane at half its height; the lock includes a first lever serving as an opening lever;
figures 2 and 3 are two isometric views, respectively showing a portion of the door panel from the inside and from the outside, provided with the lock of figure 1, with its first lever flush with the front side and flush with the back side of the door panel;
figure 4 is identical to figure 3, except that it shows the insertion of the fingers of the user into the cavity in order to pull the door panel towards himself/herself without gripping the first lever of the handle;
figure 5 is an exploded isometric view of the lock of figure 1;
figure 6 is a top view of the lock according to the invention; said lock comprises two handles according to the invention and is interrupted at half its height by a horizontal plane;
figure 7 is an isometric view of a handle according to the invention;
figures 8 and 9 are two isometric views showing a portion of a door panel according to the invention, from the inside and from the outside respectively; the door panel is provided with a lock as shown in fig. 6, with the first lever being flush with the front side and flush with the back side of the door panel.
Detailed Description
In the following description, the same or corresponding portions as those described above are denoted by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof is omitted.
Referring to fig. 6 to 9, the handle of the present invention includes a second lever (2) pivoted to the support frame (T) corresponding to the opening (a).
The second lever (2) may:
-in an idle position, in which the second lever (2) is flush with the front wall (T1) of the support frame and partially covers the opening (a) of the support frame, as shown in fig. 8;
-in an operating position, in which the second lever (2) projects rearwards with respect to the front wall (T1) of the support frame (T), as shown in figures 6, 7 and 9.
The second lever (2) in the idle position and the first lever (1) in the idle position completely cover the opening (a), as shown in fig. 8.
Referring to fig. 7, the second lever (2) has a pivot axis (Y-Y) that divides the second lever (2) into a first portion (21) and a second portion (22).
When the second lever (2) is in the operating position, the first portion (21) of the second lever (2) is adjacent to the first lever (1) and is rotatable within the cavity (V). Vice versa, when the second lever (2) is in the operating position, the second portion (22) of the second lever rotates out of the compartment (V) thus acting as a retaining portion for the user to pull the handle of the invention towards himself/herself without actuating the striker (N), as shown in fig. 9.
It must be noted that fig. 8 and 9 show a lock comprising two handles, each intended to be arranged flush with one of the two sides of the door panel. In any event, FIG. 7 illustrates a single handle of the present invention that is intended to be mounted flush with one of the two sides of the door panel.
