Definitions
- the present invention relates to a connection assembly comprising connectors, in particular mutually connected multi-contact connectors.
- connection assembly It is more particularly intended to provide a tool for disengagement / disconnection of such a connection assembly.
- Patent application is known EP 1708313 in the name of the Applicant a connection assembly comprising a first multicontact connector and a second complementary type multicontact connector.
- Each connector comprises a housing receiving contacts and the connection assembly comprises a cover for locking the first connector and the second connector.
- one of the connectors forming a base is attached to a panel, in particular an electronic equipment panel. This attachment must be reliable especially in applications where connection sets are embedded as in aircraft.
- fastening means there may be mentioned those constituted by two screw / nut systems, each of the two screws passing through both an opening formed at a lateral end of the housing of the base and an opening in the panel next to a larger opening in which is housed the base.
- these screws can be used as polarizers that allow the mutual locking between the male connector and the female connector.
- the Applicant has also proposed in the patent EP13164039B1 , means for removably attaching a connector base to a panel, consisting of hooks preloaded by springs.
- This removable attachment solution allows a removable assembly and / or disassembly of the connector base to a panel in a fast time, which is advantageous on an industrial scale especially when it is necessary to realize the assembly / disassembly of a a large number of bases.
- the uncoupling is performed manually by the operator who is responsible for it, which can be assisted if necessary by means of integrated help devices within one and / or the other of the two complementary connectors when the type (commercial series) of the connector allows it.
- integrated help devices within one and / or the other of the two complementary connectors when the type (commercial series) of the connector allows it.
- the thread of the connector marketed in the 38999 series or the locking system of the EPXB series and its central screw locking system which, in essence, disconnect the connectors at the same time they unlock them.
- the risk of breakage of the connector is important because it can be misaligned easily when handled by an operator.
- help devices remain difficult to access when accessories on the back of the connectors, such as long or short flanges, straight or bent, are used.
- connection assembly comprising two complementary connectors, in particular multi-contact connectors to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks.
- the present invention aims to meet all or part of this need.
- the hydraulic circuit comprises at least two main pistons synchronized in displacement, at least two ducts connecting the at least two main pistons to at least two secondary pistons.
- the tool may comprise two hooks advantageously comprising at least one hooking relief intended to hook to a portion of the outer surface of the housing of the first connector.
- one of the hooks may comprise as a hooking relief one opening hole while the other of the hooks comprises a clearance or a groove as a hooking relief.
- the tool may comprise a support stirrup with two branches spaced apart from each other, the free end of each of the two branches supporting a body in which an element forming one of the secondary pistons is mounted in longitudinal translation between its inactive position in which it is retracted at least partially inside the body and its active position in which it projects further outside the body relative to its inactive position.
- each hook is pivotally mounted between a locking position in which the locking nose locks the secondary piston in its inactive position and a hooking position in which the hooking relief hooks the attachment relief of the first case while that simultaneously the spout is locked the secondary piston.
- the establishment of the bracket-support around the first connector causes the pivoting of each hook from its first locking position to its hooking position of the attachment relief of the housing of the first connector, and then the actuation manual operation of the handle causes the displacement of each main piston which transmits the pressure of the hydraulic fluid to the secondary piston which translates from its inactive position to its active position thus exerting a thrust force against the panel to which the base is attached, of so as to achieve the disengagement / disconnection between the latter and the first connector.
- the tool may comprise an actuating handle of the hydraulic circuit and a disengagement head supporting the attachment reliefs.
- the head is preferably separate and remote from the handle.
- the at least one master cylinder of the hydraulic circuit is integrated with the actuating handle.
- the conduits may be hydraulic hoses.
- the invention also relates to the use of a tool that has just been described to achieve the uncoupling / disconnection between multicontact connectors of a connection assembly, in particular embedded in an aircraft.
- the invention consists of a hydraulic tool for uncoupling complementary connectors in their connected configuration, whose effectiveness is guaranteed because the installation of its head around one of the connectors guarantees both the release of at least one thrust piston against the panel to which the other connector is attached and the hooking of one of the connector housings.
- the terms "front”, “back”, “upper”, “lower”, “inside” and “outside” are to be considered with reference to a connection assembly with the two connectors 8, 9 interconnected, that the tool according to the invention can uncouple.

- a button 46, 47 is mounted transversely sliding in each of the two branches 40, 41.
- an operator can press from the outside on one and / or the other of the buttons 46, 47 to return the hook or hooks 5 in their intermediate position allowing the disengagement of the connector 8 of the uncoupling head 3.
- each of the two secondary pistons 44, 45 may be provided with a damping pad 48 screwed by means of a screw 49 to the secondary piston body. These pads 48 can damp the support of the pistons 44, 45 against the panel and thus do not mark it when uncoupling the connectors with the tool according to the invention.
- the hooking reliefs 52, 53 are different from one hook 5 to the other.
- the hooking relief 52 is a through hole made through one of the hooks 5, while the hooking relief 53 of the other hook 5 is a recess made on the inner wall of the latter.

- Each spring 97 is a helical compression spring.
- Each spring 97 may be mounted in such a way as to be prestressed in the extended extended position of attachment of the attachment piece 7 against which it bears.
- the housing 90 may comprise a first rib 98 which extends perpendicularly to the axis X on all or part of the upper face of the housing.
- a second rib 99 is formed on the upper face of the housing and extends parallel to the first rib 98 in its central portion.
- the housing 90 finally has two elongate reliefs 100, each in the form of an inclined slope, extending in the extension of the end portions of the first rib 98.
- the central portion of the first rib 98 is in the illustrated example formed on the upper face of the housing 90 and defines the edge of the rear face 92 of the housing.
- the end portions of the first rib 98 define an edge of the lateral ends of the housing.
- each attachment piece 94 may comprise a retaining lug 101 curved at its end to abut against an elongate relief 100 in the extended extended position of attachment of the piece 94.
- the dimensions of the opening O and the thickness of the panel P in which is fixed a base 9 may be such that in the fixed configuration, the curved end of the holding lug 101 does not abut against a relief 100 Indeed, in a fixed configuration, the attachment piece 94 is in an intermediate deployed position or in other words, it is not deployed at its maximum stroke.
- the first 98 and second 99 ribs and the reliefs 100 together define a sliding slide of the attachment piece 94 perpendicular to the X axis of the housing 90.
- the attachment piece 94 is snapped onto the housing 90 and can slide from this extreme deployed position of attachment to an end retracted release position.
- This extreme release position can be reached by abutment of the tongues 96 against parts 102 connected to the housing 90. It can also be reached by abutment of the tabs 96 against the housing 90. It can be reached by mutual abutment between the two legs holding 101 facing one another, that is to say, sliding on the same upper face of housing in the same direction perpendicular to the X axis.
- the attachment parts 94 are in the extended deployed position, and are retained by the reliefs 100 cooperating with the retaining lugs 101.
- the springs 97 are in the prestressed state.
- a hooking part 94 may advantageously comprise two hooks 95, one of which slides on the upper face of the housing and the other slides on the underside of the housing.
- a fixing of the base 9 with four hooks 95 for fixing the housing. This allows a better mechanical strength, especially in case of severe traction of the base 9 towards the rear of the panel P or severe traction in a direction perpendicular to the X axis.
- the connector base 9 may comprise a fastening portion 103 extending in the extension of the housing 3 along the X axis from the rear face.
- the attachment portion 103 has a plurality of attachment zones 104.
- one or more locking pins 105 may be provided at least on the upper face of the housing. Other locking pins may also be formed on the lower face of the housing 90. These locking pins 105 are in the examples considered made in one piece with the housing 90. These locking pins 105 are configured to cooperate with the notches or lights 11 made in a locking cap 10 slidably mounted on the housing 80 of the first connector 8, as detailed below.
- the connector base 9 may comprise, on each of its lateral ends, an outgrowth 106 serving as a flat support surface against the rear face P1 of the panel P.
- a guide pin 107 configured to cooperate with an opening of a panel P, can project on one of the bearing surfaces 106.
- a male keying element 12 or coding key is mounted in a complementary cylindrical housing 108 which projects on the other of the bearing surfaces 106.
- This coding key 12 is configured to cooperate with the female key 85 of the complementary plug 8 to the base 9.
- the guiding pin 107 and the male key 12/108 do not serve as means for fixing the base 9 but that one could if necessary use one and / or the other of the pin 107 or the polarizer 108 to achieve a complementary attachment type screw / nut.
- the housing 90 may comprise, at each of its lateral ends, a groove 109 formed from the front face 91 of the housing which extends parallel to its axis X. It may also be a solid portion. These grooves or solid portions 109 are intended to cooperate with the guide arms 84 of the plug 8 when connected to the base 9.
- the two multi-contact connectors 8, 9 of the connection assembly are advantageously configured to be mutually locked.
- the locking can be advantageously performed by a locking cap 10 mounted to slide transversely relative to the housing 80 of the first connector 8 between a locking position and an unlocking position, and vice versa.
- this locking cap 10 may have a U-shaped section in a plane perpendicular to the X axis of the connector 8.
- the cover 10 then has a bottom facing a side face of the housing 80 and two parallel branches coming from respectively facing a portion of the upper face of the housing 80 and a portion of the lower face of the housing 80.
- one or more windows or lights 11 may be formed in one of the branches or in each branch. These windows may have, when viewed in plan view or below the case 80, a shape substantially in L. The largest dimension measured between two opposite edges of a window 11 defines the amplitude of the sliding movement of the locking cover 10 with respect to the housing 80 as it moves from a locking position to an unlocking position.
- a first step the first connector 8 with the locking cap 10 in the unlocked position is pushed, for example by hand, to the base 9 which has been previously introduced through an opening O of the Pet panel secured to this panel by the hooks 94.
- the locking cap 10 is in contact with the housings 80 and 90.
- the locking pins 105 of the housing 90 are received in the small portion of the L formed by each light 11 of the locking cap 10.
- a force is exerted, for example by hand, perpendicular to the axis X. This force causes the sliding of the locking cap 10 relative to the housings 80 and 90, transversely to the axis X.
- each pin 105 is abutted against an edge of the light groove and blocked in the latter.
- the cover 10 is then in the locked position, securing the connectors 8 and 9 to each other.
- a free space E is disengaged between the bottom of the cover 10 and the lateral edge of the housing of the connector 8.
- the head 3 of the tool 1 is brought so that the support stirrup 4 comes to cover the first connector 8 with the branches 40, 41 on either side of the housing 80.
- the body 42 at the end of branch 40 is housed in the space E released by the unlocked cover 10, and the body 43 of the end of the other branch 41 comes to rest on the retention system of the foolproof key 12 ( figure 11A ).
- a coil spring 54 arranged transversely to each hook 5 advantageously allows to bring the piston 44 or 45 to the vertical. These springs 54 are compressed by the passage of the shoulders during the engagement of the head of the tool
- the opening hole 52 of one of the hooks 5 snaps around the pin 86 of the housing 80 and the clearance 53 of the other hook 5 hooks a portion 87 of the housing around the key coding / coding 85.
- the pistons 44, 45 are free to translate in their respective body 42, 43 because none of the hooks 5 locks them, that is to say, blocks them in translation. In other words, the shoulders 440, 450 of the pistons 44, 45 are spaced from the hooks 5.
- this configuration corresponds to a bearing of the pistons 44, 45 against the panel P.
- the manual operation of the handle 2 is then performed, which causes the displacement of the synchronized main pistons which transmit the pressure of the hydraulic fluid through the hydraulic circuit 6 to the two secondary pistons 44, 45.
- This thrust force allows a recoil of the head 3 to which is secured the first connector 8 via the reliefs 52, 53 of the hooks 5.
- the uncoupling Due to the simultaneous and symmetrical thrust force of the pistons 44, 45, the uncoupling is symmetrical and is in the X axis of the contacts, which guarantees the integrity of these.
- the manual actuation force to be applied to the handle 2 necessary for the uncoupling is reduced because of the significant gearing related to the use of the lever arm of the handle and transmitted with a minimum of losses to the level of the connector via fluid pressure in the hydraulic circuit 6.
- the handle 2 can then be released, and the pistons 44, 45 are returned to their inactive position, i.e. returned to their respective housings.
- buttons 46, 47 located on either side of the support-bracket 4.
- This support causes the buttons 46, 47 to the inside of the stirrup 4 and thus the pivoting hooks 5 and their return to their intermediate position in which they come again to lock the pistons 44, 45 by their shoulders 440, 450.
- the release of the connector of the tool does not therefore only on additional manual operation, which allows to release the connector of the tool only at the chosen moment.
- the uncoupling with the tool according to the invention is carried out for two multicontact connectors of the QR series type
- the tool according to the invention can be applied to all types of connectors as long as they have snapping reliefs complementary to those of the tool.
- These include the ARINC600, EN3682, EN4644, EN4165, MIL DTL 83527, SAE AS81659 or ARINC 404 multi-contact connector series. Circular connectors can also be considered.
- the examples illustrated relate to a disengagement tool with two main pistons synchronized in displacement to simultaneously support two secondary pistons on either side of the connectors.
- a tool with a hydraulic circuit that would move a single secondary piston of generally annular shape that would initially be positioned around circular connectors and whose thrust against the panel would be uniform and in an annular zone.
- the locking / unlocking system illustrated between connectors consists of a locking cover that is slid transversely relative to the connector housing. But any other manual locking / unlocking system prior to uncoupling according to the invention may be considered.
- the hydraulic tool according to the invention is used to perform the uncoupling between connectors of rectangular cross-section, it is possible to provide a tool for connectors of other section, such as circular section connectors.
- the two hooks of the tool that hang on either side of the outer surface of the connector housing are not identical because of the different hooking reliefs: a hole opening on one side, a clearance or groove on the other. It is also possible to make a tool whose head comprises two identical hooks.
- the handle of the tool is offset from the head in order to be able to uncoupling / disconnecting in a small space. It is also possible to produce a one-piece assembly that integrates both the handle and the head with its support bracket.
