  • crease lines shown in Fig. 5 are arranged such that the thickness of the cardboard, in particular corrugated cardboard, which is used for the box, is taken into account, so that the crease lines defining the second corner panels are in a slightly different plane than the crease line defining the second end panel in order to allow that all three panels may form a right angel with the respective panel, from which they are folded.
  • corner panels and the end panels are glued together, it is as well possible to use other means for fixing and stabilising the box, i.e. attaching the respective panels to each other by means of self-adhesive tape or the like.
  • the invention has the great advantage that blanks of a standard shape respectively standard pre-formed boxes can be used to form a huge variety of different sized boxes such that advantageously not a lot of different boxes have to be kept in stock at a packaging company.
  • the invention advantageously allows adjusting at least the length (or, depending on the view, the width) of a box in order to fit optimal to the arrangement of items to be packaged in the box.
  • the height of the box can be adjusted.
  • box forming unit may produce pre-folded boxes on-site.
  • box forming unit may even be adapted to form custom sized pre-folded boxes from cardboard blanks or from cardboard continuously fed to the box forming unit from a stack of zig-zag-folded corrugated cardboard, such that all dimensions of the boxes can be varied as needed.
  • the items in the box may be arranged manually or automatically in the box.
  • the dimensions of the arrangement may be measured e.g. by a laser measuring unit or may be calculated from data known about the arrangement and/or the single items in the arrangement. It may be foreseen that a central control unit calculates an optimal arrangement of the items to be packaged and either controls a placing unit for automatically arranging the items or displays the optimal arrangement via a screen to a person manually arranging the items in the box.
  • the cardboard box may be held such that the bottom panel is slightly inclined downwards from the open end towards the first end panel, ensuring that gravity forces the arrangement against the end panel and at least one of the respective side panels.
  • the respective pre-fold box may even be used for assembling the items to be shipped, i.e. the box can be placed on a trolley used by an order picker to pick up the items of an order from a storage.
  • the trolley could advantageously also be adapted to hold the pre-folded box slightly inclined such that items placed in the box cannot fall out of the open end of the box.

Claims (13)

  1. System zum automatischen Verpacken von Artikeln (26, 28, 30, 32, 34), die in Größe und Anzahl variieren, für den Versand, umfassend
    - eine Packstation zum Halten einer vorgefalteten Pappschachtel (10) zur Aufnahme eines oder mehrerer zu verpackenden/verpackender Artikel(s) (26, 28, 30, 32, 34), wobei die vorgefaltete Pappschachtel (10) eine Bodenplatte (12), zwei Seitenplatten (14, 16) und eine erste Endplatte (24) aufweist, wobei die erste Endplatte (24) mit jeder der Seitenplatten (14, 16) verbunden ist, die Seitenplatten (14, 16) und die Endplatte (24) aus der Bodenplatte (12) aufgerichtet sind, um eine Schachtel (10) mit einer offenen Oberseite und einer offenen Seite zu bilden, die Bodenplatte (12) einen Endabschnitt aufweist, der dazu vorgesehen ist, eine zweite Endplatte (46) zu bilden, und jede Seitenplatte (14, 16) einen Endabschnitt aufweist, der dazu vorgesehen ist, eine Eckplatte (42, 44) zu bilden,
    gekennzeichnet durch Mittel zum automatischen Verpacken von Artikeln, einschließlich
    - mindestens einer Schneideeinheit, die dazu ausgelegt ist, Schnitte (48, 50) zwischen den Endabschnitten der Seitenplatten (14, 16), die zur Bildung der genannten Eckplatten (42, 44) bestimmt sind, und dem Endabschnitt der Bodenplatte (12), die zur Bildung der zweiten Endplatte (46) bestimmt ist, einzubringen und die Endabschnitte der Seitenplatten (14, 16) und des Endabschnitts der Bodenplatte (12) der vorgefalteten Schachtel (10) einstellbar zu kürzen, und
    - mindestens einer Falteinheit zum Falten der Eckplatten (42, 44) und der zweiten Endplatte (46), um die genannte offene Seite der Schachtel (10) zu schließen.
  2. System nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es eine Schachtelbildungseinheit zum Herstellen vorgefalteter Schachteln (10) umfasst, die jeweils eine Bodenplatte (12), zwei Seitenplatten (14, 16) und eine erste Endplatte (24) aufweisen, wobei die erste Endplatte (24) mit jeder der Seitenplatten (14, 16) verbunden ist, wobei die Seitenplatten (14, 16) und die Endplatte (24) aus der Bodenplatte (12) aufgerichtet werden, um eine Schachtel (10) mit einer offenen Oberseite und einer offenen Seite aus Kartonzuschnitten zu bilden.
  3. System nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es eine Deckelaufsetzeinheit zum Aufsetzen eines Deckels (52) auf die vollständig gefaltete Schachtel (10) umfasst.
  4. System nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die genannte Packstation dazu ausgelegt ist, die vorgefaltete Schachtel (10) so zu halten, dass die Bodenplatte (12) vom offenen Ende aus leicht nach unten zur ersten Endplatte (24) hin geneigt ist.
  5. System nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es eine zentrale Steuereinheit umfasst, die eine mögliche Anordnung des oder der zu verpackenden Artikel(s) (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) berechnet, die unter vorgegebenen Kriterien wie Volumen und/oder Stabilität der fertig gefalteten Schachtel (10) optimiert ist.
  6. System nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es eine Schneideeinheit zum einstellbaren Kürzen der die Höhe der Schachtel (10) definierenden Platten umfasst.
  7. System nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es mindestens eine Falzeinheit zum Einbringen einer Falzlinie (40) in die Bodenplatte (12) zur Definition der zweiten Endplatte (46) und/oder zum Einbringen einer Falzlinie (36, 38) in jede Seitenplatte (14, 16) zur Definition der jeweiligen Eckplatte (42, 44) umfasst.
  8. Verfahren zum Verpacken von Artikeln (26, 28, 30, 32, 34), die in Größe und Anzahl variieren, für den Versand, umfassend die folgenden Schritte:
    - Anordnen eines oder mehrerer Artikel(s) (26, 28, 30, 32, 34), der/die in einer vorgefalteten Pappschachtel (10) zu verpacken sind, wobei die vorgefaltete Pappschachtel (10) eine Bodenplatte (12), zwei Seitenplatten (14, 16) und eine erste Endplatte (24) aufweist, wobei die erste Endplatte (24) mit jeder der Seitenplatten (14, 16) verbunden ist, die Seitenplatten (14, 16) und die Endplatte (24) aus der Bodenplatte (12) aufgerichtet sind, um eine Schachtel (10) mit einer offenen Oberseite und einer offenen Seite zu bilden, die Bodenplatte (12) einen Endabschnitt aufweist, der dazu bestimmt ist, eine zweite Endplatte (46) zu bilden, und jede Seitenplatte (14, 16) einen Endabschnitt aufweist, der dazu bestimmt ist, eine Eckplatte (42, 44) zu bilden,
    gekennzeichnet durch automatisierte Schritte des
    - bedarfsweisen Kürzens der Endabschnitte der Seitenplatte (14, 16) und des Endabschnitts der Bodenplatte (12) der vorgefalteten Schachtel (10) in Abhängigkeit von den Abmessungen der Anordnung des einen oder der mehreren Artikel(s) (26, 28, 30, 32, 34),
    - Einbringens von Schnitten (48, 50) zwischen den Endabschnitten der Seitenplatten (14, 16), die dazu bestimmt sind, die Eckplatten (42, 44) zu bilden, und dem Endabschnitt der Bodenplatte (12), der dazu bestimmt ist, die zweite Endplatte (46) zu bilden, und
    - Faltens der Eckplatten (42, 44) und der zweiten Endplatte (46), um die offene Seite der Schachtel (10) zu schließen.
  9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es einen Schritt des Auftragens von Klebstoff auf die zweite Endplatte (46) und/oder auf die Eckplatten (42, 44) vor dem Falten selbiger umfasst.
  10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8 oder 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es einen Schritt des Bestimmens der Höhe und/oder der Länge einer Anordnung von Artikeln (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) umfasst, die auf der Bodenplatte (12) vor dem Kürzen der Platten angeordnet sind.
  11. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 8 bis 10, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es einen Schritt des Kürzens der Platten umfasst, die die Höhe der Schachtel (10) definieren.
  12. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 8 bis 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es einen Schritt des Einbringens einer Falzlinie (40) in die Bodenplatte (12) zur Definition der zweiten Endplatte (46) und/oder des Einbringens einer Falzlinie (36, 38) in jede Seitenplatte (14, 16) zur Definition der jeweiligen Eckplatte (42, 44) umfasst.
  13. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 8 bis 12, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es die Schritte umfasst des
    - Platzierens einer Platte (58) im Inneren der Schachtel (10) an der offenen Seite gegen den/die Artikel (26, 28, 30, 32, 34), der/die in der Schachtel (10) platziert ist (sind), bevor die Eckplatten (42, 44) und die zweite Endplatte (46) gefaltet werden, und
    - Zurückziehen der Platte (58), nachdem die Eckplatten (42, 44) nach innen gefaltet worden sind.
