Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum automatisierten Wiederauffinden von fehlerhaften Druckbildstellen eines bedruckten Bandes und zur Synchronisation der Bandförderung auf einer Weiterverarbeitungsmaschine, wobei die Material- und/oder Druckfehler mittels eines Detektors und die jeweiligen Abstände der Fehlerstellen erfasst und in einem Rollenprotokoll gespeichert werden. nach Beendigung des Druckvorgangs das Bandende mit einem auslesbaren Etikett versehen wird, das beim Wiedereinlegen des Bandes zur Festlegung einer Nullmarke dient, durch die die Orte der Material- und/oder Druckfehlerstellen lagegenau auffindbar sind.
