Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a multi-point lock.
  • multi-point locks are provided with a laminar header coupled to a respective lock and to at least one respective auxiliary closure element.
  • multi-point locks are delivered, to locksmiths and to retailers, with the lock and auxiliary closure element already coupled to the header, in order to simplify mounting operations as much as possible and reduce the possibility of error to the minimum.
  • such header has a large space occupation since it must have a length and thickness that are compatible with the side profile of the door on which the multi-point lock is to be mounted.
  • DE 33 41 004 A1 discloses an espagnolette lock with a latch, push-bolt and espagnolette connection piece, from which the espagnolettes extend at the rear of the face-plate, the espagnolettes being in hooking connection with their espagnolette connection piece.
  • the hooking portion of the espagnolette is an intermediate portion which projects shortly above the face-plate and which is guided by a screw arranged on the rear face of the face-plate.
  • US 2008/184749 A1 discloses a door locking arrangement including a lock-point arming input element that is connected directly to a handle-operated control element of the locking arrangement, usable in hinged single or multiple-panel installations, having single, and/or multiple lock-points, for allowing keyless locking from outside, and including a latching arrangement.
  • the lock point arming element is selectively moveable between an armed and a disarmed position thereof, and is configured and connected to the handle-operated control element in such a manner that the handle-operated control element may be used to move the lock-point to the locked position thereof only when the lock-point arming input element is in the armed position thereof.
  • WO 02/33202 A2 discloses a multipoint lock system for use with the active and inactive doors of two-door sets, which provides an operator with the ability to lock or unlock a plurality of locking points both manually and automatically, and features a blocking mechanism to prevent unwanted locking.
  • the system comprises a pair of releasably engaged mechanisms, one of which primarily controls the deployment of the locking members, while the other primarily controls the receiving windows that receive the locking members.
  • Each mechanism is operated by a lever and thumb-turn attached to a centralized cassette, which houses the core actuating means for the entire lock system.
  • the aim of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned drawbacks, by providing a multi-point lock that, during transport and movement, has a reduced space occupation.
  • an object of the invention is to provide a multi-point lock that can be easily mounted and installed, while reducing the possibility of making mistakes to the minimum for the locksmith.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a multi-point lock which is low-cost, easily and practically implemented and safe in application.
  • the reference numeral 1 generally designates a multi-point lock representing the state of the art that comprises a lock 2 and at least one auxiliary closure element 3.
  • Such lock 2 is provided with a box-like body 4 provided with means for moving at least one component that is preferably selected from a spring latch 5, at least one sliding latch 6 and at least one rod 7 for actuating external fittings.
  • spring latch 5 is optional (it is possible for such component to be entirely absent).
  • a conventional locking roller may be present.
  • the auxiliary closure element 3 comprises a shell 8 for accommodating actuators of a respective sliding latch 9, which are controlled by a respective rod 7 for actuating the lock 2.
  • the lock 2 and the at least one auxiliary closure element 3 are stably coupled to a respective laminar header 10 that is intended to be installed on the side profile of the door on which the multi-point lock 1 is to be mounted.
  • the laminar header 10 is constituted by at least two separate portions 11 and 12, the mutually facing ends 13 of these portions 11 and 12 being adjacent substantially without play.
  • Such portions 11 and 12 are provided with means of stable coupling 14 to the lock 2 and to the at least one auxiliary closure element 3.
  • portions 11 and 12 In particular, the use is not required of joints or connection elements in order to firmly connect the portions 11 and 12 to each other. According to the invention, such portions 11 and 12 never overlap and if they do they have, respectively, a matching shape and a complementary shape, in any case maintaining the overall thickness of the laminar header unchanged, also at the junction between the two portions 11 and 12.
  • multi-point locks are supplied, to locksmiths and to retailers, in containers that are adapted to protect them and keep them intact during transport and movement.
  • Such containers of the multi-point lock 1 can thus have a reduced space occupation, since the header 10 accommodated inside it is still coupled to the lock 2 and to the auxiliary closure element 3, but is divided into two or more portions 11 and 12 that are accommodated next to each other inside the container.
  • the auxiliary closure element 3 can be a redirector (hereinafter the reference numeral 3 will be used to designate a redirector without, however, any limitation on the possibility of substituting it with any other closure element that is equivalent thereto).
  • auxiliary closure elements 3 different devices, such as transverse pins, which are adapted, when completely extracted, to be accommodated in adapted seats that are arranged in the door frame, or hooks that are designed to be removably coupled with respective protrusions of the door frame.
  • the separation line between the ends 13 can be arranged above the sliding latch 6 and 9 of either or both of the redirector 3 and the lock 2.
  • any tolerances of the excess length of the portions 11 and 12 could mount up, thus preventing the rod 7 for actuating the lock 2 from effectively controlling the sliding latch 9 of the redirector 3.
  • the portions 11 and 12 can be two in number, and the separation line between the ends 13 can be defined at at least one component that is selected from the front face 16 of the box-like body 4 and the front wall of the shell 8.
  • the portions can be three in number, 11, 12 and 17, and the separation line between a first one 11 and a second one 12 of the portions can be defined in a front face 16 of the box-like body 4.
  • the separation line between a second one 12 and a third one 17 of the portions is defined in a front wall of the shell 8.
  • the multi-point lock 1 can comprise a first portion 11 that is coupled to the lock 2 and to the lower redirector 3a that constitutes the main closure assembly, and a second portion 12 that is coupled to the upper redirector 3b that constitutes the auxiliary closure assembly.
  • the mutually facing ends 13 of the portions 11 and 12 present respectively a shape and a complementary shape that define a single reference point for the locksmith during the step of mounting and coupling the auxiliary assembly to the main assembly, corresponding to the shape mating between the shape and the complementary shape.
  • the ends 13 can present a male/female coupling of the type preferably selected from a dovetail coupling, a puzzle piece, and the like.
  • the ends 13 can have a coupling with complementary profiles.
  • ends 13 can be provided with end portions 18 with reduced thickness and with complementary shapes and sizes for mutual juxtaposition.
  • the separation line of the portions 11 and 12 can be located between the ends 13, and defined at an intermediate point between the front face 16 of the box-like body 4 and the front wall of the shell 8.
  • ends will necessarily have a coupling of the male/female type or of the complementary profile type, in order to ensure a stable connection between the two portions 11 and 12.
  • the means of stable coupling 14 can comprise a plurality of through holes 19 that are defined on the portions 11 and 12 and are arranged at respective openings 20, which are defined in either or both of the front face 16 of the box-like body 4 and the front wall of the shell 8, the holes 19 and the openings 20 accommodating corresponding elements for coupling 21.
  • the elements for coupling 21 can be screws.
  • the laminar header 10 can have a constant thickness over its entire length, also at the junction line of the portions 11 and 12.
  • the present invention solves the above-mentioned problems, by providing a multi-point lock 1 that, during transport and movement, has a reduced space occupation.
  • the multi-point lock 1, according to the invention can be easily mounted and installed, while reducing the possibility of making mistakes to the minimum for the locksmith.
  • the materials employed, as well as the dimensions, may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
