Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for flush cutting of edge bands fastened to end faces of work piece plates, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a method is known from the document DE202013009753U1 known.
- edge banding machines are also known as edgebanding strips and are glued to the peripheral end faces of workpiece plates.
- the edge bands are on the support those of the workpiece plates, since they are usually glued with a length and width addition and only in a second operation flush with the support plane or surface of the tool plates, in which case a flat surface between the workpiece plate and the edge band arises.
- edge bands can be applied overhanging in different ways and cut flush.
- the invention is limited to a manual flush cutting of thin edge bands, the so-called bow edge bands. This is understood to mean 0.5 to 1 mm thick edgebandings, which are already precoated with a hotmelt adhesive and glued to the workpiece plate by means of an iron.
- edge bands One known way of flushing the edge bands is to use a chisel.
- the protruding portion of the edge band is cut flush by placing the sharp edge on the workpiece surface and simultaneous feed along the glued edge band.
- usually 2/3 of the cutting width on the workpiece plate and 1/3 of the cutting edge width projects over the workpiece plate.
- Another method to cut off the edge band projection is to cut off the edge band projection with a blunt object, such as a sheet metal part of a metal joiner angle.
- a blunt object such as a sheet metal part of a metal joiner angle.
- the sheet metal leg of the carpenter's angle is placed at an angle of approximately 45 ° obliquely on the workpiece plate and moved in this oblique position like a file in the direction of the workpiece plate.
- the edge band projection is scraped or repelled.
- the advantage of this method over a chisel is that the protruding edge band is repelled or broken off against the workpiece plate. This does not create a splitting effect on long-fibered real wood edgebands.
- This method can also be performed with a commercially available flat file.
- the edge planer consists of a handle body with a smooth planing sole and a cutting blade in a cutting plane. Special arranged guide surfaces for guiding the handle body and the cutting blade at a certain angle relative to the edge band to be processed are required.

- the invention provides that the recess in the feed direction of the metal body is open and having mutually parallel side surfaces, of which at least one side surface serves as a stop and guide surface for the outside of the portion of the edge band, that immediately behind the side surface has a sectional area with two Cutting edges is arranged in the region of the support planes of the workpiece plate, that the cut edges and the cut surface are at right angles to the support planes of the workpiece plate and butt stump the portion of the edge band and that the ejected portion of the edge band is fed to a arranged behind the cut surface chip guide and so deflected in that it runs out of the cutting tool without a problem.
- the basic idea of the invention is to provide a method in which the cutting tool can be used without expensive attachments and guides and is easy and quick to produce.
- the attachments and guides must always be aligned with the cutting plane and therefore are complex and easily lead to misuse of the cutting tool.
- the chip guide of the thin cut-off portion of the edge band is carried out via an optimal cutting geometry in the cutting tool. After the chip is cut off directly at the plate edge of the workpiece plate by the cutting edge, this chip is deflected directly after the cutting process in a sufficiently large chip space and transported out of the cutting tool via an arcuate design of the chip space.
- the severed portion of the edge band can also rotate spirally out of the cutting tool, so that the grip area remains free of the chip and the handling directly on the cutting tool always works without problems.
- the separation of the protruding portion of the edge band is further improved in that the cut surface is arranged with the cut edges at an angle between 10 ° and 45 ° to exert a pulling cut on the edge band and separate the portion of the edge band splinter-free.
- the cut surface can also be formed arcuate.
- the application of the cutting tool on the workpiece plate is facilitated by the metal body has a support member which protrudes with respect to a attachment point of the cutting tool to the workpiece plate with the recess by at least 10 mm and ensures a secure support of the metal body on the workpiece plate.

- the support planes 9 and 10 of the metal body 2 are also at a right angle to the cut surface 4.
- the cut surface 4 may also arcuately pass into the chip guide 5.
- the protruding portion 19 of the edge strip 15 is fed over the cutting surface 4 of the chip guide 5 and deflected so that the portion 19 can run smoothly out of the cutting tool 1 ( Fig. 3 ).
- the corners of the workpiece plate 14 and the metal body 2 are provided with a radius.
- the Fig. 4 shows a cutting tool 1, the two side surfaces 3 and 6 merge into cutting surfaces 4 and 21, which are bounded by cutting edges 7 and 8, and 22 and 23 respectively.
- the cut surface 4 and 21 are mirror images of the side surfaces 3 and 6, so that both side surfaces 3 and 6 can be used to stop and guide surface.
- the cutting tool 1 is therefore usable in both sides on the workpiece plate 14 both clockwise and counterclockwise. This leads to an optimization of the handling and to an increase of the service life of the cutting tool 1.
Description
So-called edge banding machines are also known as edgebanding strips and are glued to the peripheral end faces of workpiece plates. In this case, the edge bands are on the support those of the workpiece plates, since they are usually glued with a length and width addition and only in a second operation flush with the support plane or surface of the tool plates, in which case a flat surface between the workpiece plate and the edge band arises.
The edge bands can be applied overhanging in different ways and cut flush. The invention is limited to a manual flush cutting of thin edge bands, the so-called bow edge bands. This is understood to mean 0.5 to 1 mm thick edgebandings, which are already precoated with a hotmelt adhesive and glued to the workpiece plate by means of an iron.
One known way of flushing the edge bands is to use a chisel. The protruding portion of the edge band is cut flush by placing the sharp edge on the workpiece surface and simultaneous feed along the glued edge band. In this case, usually 2/3 of the cutting width on the workpiece plate and 1/3 of the cutting edge width projects over the workpiece plate.
Since there is not a large amount of support when attaching the chisel to the workpiece plate or to the plate edge, this method requires quite a bit of skill until the edge of the chisel has cut the beginning on the edge band. When attaching the chisel with the sharp cutting edge, the user has to lay down on the workpiece plate and at the same time screw in the chisel into the edge overhang and at the same time push it forward so that the edge is cut in the direction of the workpiece plate. Only after cutting the supernatant of the edge band can be completely cut off.
Further problems occur when a blunt or damaged crowbar is used. The sharp edges in the edge of the chisel increase the risk of surface damage and scratches in the surface of the tool plate to be machined. This method is preferably used in melamine or plastic edgebands. In the case of long-fibered real wood edge bands, a wedge effect of the edge of the chisel may result in a kind of pre-splitting of the wood grain during cutting, which can lead to the real wood edge tearing under the work plate during flush cutting. The workpiece plate is thus unusable. Due to the risk of damage to the workpiece plate, this method is practiced only by experienced users.
Another method to cut off the edge band projection is to cut off the edge band projection with a blunt object, such as a sheet metal part of a metal joiner angle. Important in this procedure is that the sheet metal part must be burr-free and sharp-edged. The sheet metal leg of the carpenter's angle is placed at an angle of approximately 45 ° obliquely on the workpiece plate and moved in this oblique position like a file in the direction of the workpiece plate. The edge band projection is scraped or repelled. The advantage of this method over a chisel is that the protruding edge band is repelled or broken off against the workpiece plate. This does not create a splitting effect on long-fibered real wood edgebands. This method can also be performed with a commercially available flat file.
The disadvantage of the repelling process is again the attachment of the cutting tool to the edge band. Both the file and the sheet metal part of the joiner's angle must be exposed at the top plate edge of the edge band projection. This again requires a certain amount of practice and routine.
The problem of applying a cutting blade or scraper to the edge of the workpiece is already recognized and optimized in various solutions.
The problem with this and many other solutions is the use of cutting blades. A sharp edge can create a splitting effect on real wood edgebands, damaging the edge band. The cutting knives are also blunt when cutting hard materials quickly and need to be postponed or replaced. Blunt cutting edges are much more durable in terms of tool life. On the other hand, the cutting blades in the known systems must lie in a cutting plane to the knife holder and often be aligned. Also the stops have to be adjusted, which In turn, misuse and ultimately misaligned cutting blades and stops can damage the workpiece plate and its edge.
It is an object of the invention to avoid the disadvantages described and to provide a simple and cost-effective simple and simple method that even by an untrained user without previous knowledge quickly and without detailed instructions for flush cutting of protruding, attached to workpiece plates edge bands made of melamine, plastic and real wood can be applied without injuring the edge band.
The stated object is solved by the features of
For this purpose, the invention provides that the recess in the feed direction of the metal body is open and having mutually parallel side surfaces, of which at least one side surface serves as a stop and guide surface for the outside of the portion of the edge band, that immediately behind the side surface has a sectional area with two Cutting edges is arranged in the region of the support planes of the workpiece plate, that the cut edges and the cut surface are at right angles to the support planes of the workpiece plate and butt stump the portion of the edge band and that the ejected portion of the edge band is fed to a arranged behind the cut surface chip guide and so deflected in that it runs out of the cutting tool without a problem.
The basic idea of the invention is to provide a method in which the cutting tool can be used without expensive attachments and guides and is easy and quick to produce. The attachments and guides must always be aligned with the cutting plane and therefore are complex and easily lead to misuse of the cutting tool. The chip guide of the thin cut-off portion of the edge band is carried out via an optimal cutting geometry in the cutting tool. After the chip is cut off directly at the plate edge of the workpiece plate by the cutting edge, this chip is deflected directly after the cutting process in a sufficiently large chip space and transported out of the cutting tool via an arcuate design of the chip space. The severed portion of the edge band can also rotate spirally out of the cutting tool, so that the grip area remains free of the chip and the handling directly on the cutting tool always works without problems.
Advantageous developments of the method can be found in the dependent claims.
The separation of the protruding portion of the edge band is further improved in that the cut surface is arranged with the cut edges at an angle between 10 ° and 45 ° to exert a pulling cut on the edge band and separate the portion of the edge band splinter-free.
Die Schnittfläche kann auch bogenförmig ausgebildet sein. The cut surface can also be formed arcuate.
The application of the cutting tool on the workpiece plate is facilitated by the metal body has a support member which protrudes with respect to a attachment point of the cutting tool to the workpiece plate with the recess by at least 10 mm and ensures a secure support of the metal body on the workpiece plate.
According to the invention, the cutting tool is formed so that the metal body has a protruding handle portion to hold the cutting tool with the thumb up and with the index finger down. Thus, during the cutting process, a lateral pressure on the side surface of the recess can be exerted as a stop and guide surface on the outer surface of the portion of the edge band.
The metal body can be placed with the lower support level on the workpiece plate and the metal body is displaceable in the feed direction in a clockwise direction about the workpiece plate.
The metal body can also be placed with the upper support level on the workpiece plate and is then displaceable counterclockwise along the front side of the workpiece plate, so that the handling of the cutting tool is optimized for both left-handed and right-handed.
The recess in the metal body carries a second cut surface with associated cut edges, which are mirror images of the cut edges of the first cut surface.
The cutting tool can then be placed on one or the other support plane on the workpiece plate and used in the feed direction in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. In addition to the ease of handling so that an extension of the life of the cutting tool is achieved.
The feed direction is provided for better understanding of the direction of application on the metal body with a mark in the form of an arrow, which is designed as a recess, breakthrough or laser marking.
The metal body is preferably plate-shaped and made of stainless steel, solid carbide or stainless steel.
This can be dispensed with a corrosion protection of the metal body. At the same time, an extension of the service life of the metal body is achieved.
