Description

The invention relates to a method for laminating narrow sides of plate-shaped workpieces according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a method is known from EP 0 276 359 A2 known. Schmalseitenkaschierungen the type in question are used when plate-shaped workpieces are also made of plate-shaped semi-finished wood or wood substitute materials. In this case, it is usually the case that the surfaces of the surface sides, ie the two surfaces with the largest areal extent, are already coated. The semi-finished products are then cut to size according to the desired dimension on their narrow sides and provided with a regularly optically adapted to the surface coating of the surface sides Kantenkaschierung.

The applied Kantenkaschierungsmaterial is regularly strip-shaped, single or multilayer plastic belts, which are referred to as so-called edge bands. For the purpose of linguistic simplification, the term edge bands in general is used for edge lamination materials.

A common problem in the production of such Schmalflächenkaschierungen is the transition between the edge band and the surface of the surface side of the workpiece. This often results in a joint, in the area of which the adhesion of the edge band to the narrow side fails, so that a narrow space is created between the plate-shaped semifinished product and the edge band. In this can collect dirt, which leads to unsightly visual impairments of this transition area.

The present invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method for laminating narrow sides of plate-shaped workpieces and producible by this method Schmalseitenkaschierung, which allow better connection of the edge band to the narrow side of the plate-shaped semi-finished product in the region of the transition between the narrow side and surface side of the workpiece.

The object is achieved by a method according to claim 1. The features of the dependent claims relate to advantageous embodiments.

Since, at least in the case of the lamination of straight edges, the edge band rests with a flat surface on the narrow side and thus in particular on the projecting and middle region of the narrow side, the impression initially arises that recessed areas of the narrow side, adjacent to the surface side, would rather lead to a widening of the unwanted joints between edge band and surface of the surface side of the workpiece. However, it has surprisingly been found that these joints show a better connection of the edge band to the narrow side when using the method according to the invention and the joint by the adhesion-promoting material - at least largely - is closed. In this case, the adhesion-promoting material may be a glue, for example a hot glue, with which the edge band is connected to the narrow side; it may also be an adhesive layer or an adhesion-promoting layer of the edge band. This can for example have been activated by heat input, preferably by a laser or a hot air blower, wherein the activation in particular means a melting for the purpose of applying the edge band on the narrow side.

It has been shown that the profiling of the narrow side according to the invention can counteract the effect that could be identified as the cause of the poor connection of edge bands to conventional narrow sides. If an edge band is applied to a narrow side, it experiences a deflection before being applied to the narrow side. This deflection leads to a bowl, ie to form a concave surface on the narrow side of the workpiece facing surface of the edge band. If the thus-edged edge band is applied to the edge, adhesion-promoting material in the region of the edges of the narrow side, ie on the areas of the narrow side adjoining the surfaces of the surface side, is displaced out of the joining zone between narrow side and edge band. As a result, this adhesion-promoting material, for example, melted edge band material, is then no longer available for connecting the narrow side and edge band to the edge regions of the narrow side, whereby the interfering joints and areas of poor binding form.

By the method according to the invention, this displacement of adhesion-promoting material is reduced. It has been shown that the broadening of the joint by the recessed region is overcompensated by the reduced displacement of adhesion-promoting material from the region of the joint, so that overall a special connection in the edge region arises.

In this case, the profiling may have different geometrical configurations. It may be, for example, a chamfer, so a slight flat bevel of the edge region of the narrow side. But it is also possible to provide a rounding at the edge region of the narrow side or to create a fold, so a stepped shoulder, at the edge region of the narrow side. Of course, combinations of these geometric configurations may be present, for example in the form of a rounded chamfer or the like.

A thickness-wise middle portion of the narrow side is preferably the most projecting portion of the narrow side. Compared to this area, the profiles of the marginal areas of the narrow side jump back. Preferably, this middle region of the narrow side has a flat, perpendicular to the surface sides of the workpiece course.

Dieser Winkel kann ebenfalls als Maß für die Profilierung verwendet werden und bewegt sich vorzugsweise zwischen 85° und 89°, weiter vorzugsweise zwischen 78° und 85°.Due to the delimiting lines of the profiling on the narrow side or surface of the surface side can be a plane or in the case of a curved narrow side set a straight line that forms an angle to the surface of the surface side. This angle can also be used as a measure of the profiling and preferably moves between 85 ° and 89 °, more preferably between 78 ° and 85 °.

According to the invention edge bands are applied to narrow sides, which have a convexly curved course. This is the case in particular in the case of rounded corners of plate-shaped workpieces. In these areas, caused by the curvature, which is imposed on the edge band, which is applied to the convexly curved narrow side, also a bowl of the edge band. The narrow side oriented surface of the edge band is concavely curved due to the curvature of the workpiece in the direction of the narrow side following direction. Due to the internal multiaxial stress state, the In the material of the edge band is formed, is formed in the direction perpendicular thereto, ie in the thickness direction of the workpiece, on the workpiece facing surface of the edge band, however, from a convex curvature. As a result, the edge regions are bent away from the narrow side of the workpiece. As a result, an additional tensile stress of the connection between edge band and narrow side arises in the edge region of such curved narrow side profiles. The basic problem of the formation of gaps described at the outset therefore occurs to a greater extent in such curved narrow-side progressions. Accordingly, an edging of such curved edge courses by the method according to the invention is particularly advantageous, since the advantage of the present invention to bring about a better connection of the edge band in the edge areas becomes even more evident here.

In Fig. 1 schematically shows how a workpiece 1 is typically provided with an edge band 2 according to the prior art. The edge band 2 is brought to the narrow side 3 of the workpiece 1 and by a pressure device 4, which may for example be designed as a roll, with a pressing force F to the narrow side 3 pressed. In this case, the edge band 2 typically experiences a deflection when approaching the narrow side 3. This results in a curve, ie a curvature in the thickness direction Y of the workpiece 1, which in Fig. 2 is shown schematically. The connection between the edge band 2 and the narrow side 3 is effected by an adhesion-promoting medium, such as a glue or an adhesive or, as in the present example, by an adhesion-promoting or adhesive layer 5. This is applied in the example shown on a support layer 6 of the edge strip 2. The activation of such an activatable adhesive layer 5 regularly requires that it be converted, for example by melting, into a liquid or at least viscous state. As in Fig. 2 clearly recognizable, the edge regions of the narrow side 3 with the corners thus formed between the surface 8 of the surface side and the narrow side 3 first come into contact with the adhesive layer 5. As a result, in the region of these corner regions adhesion-promoting material from the essential for the material connection zone between the Narrow side 3 and the support layer 6 displaced out.

In a subsequent process step, which is described in Fig. 3 is shown, the edge band 2 is pressed with a pressing force F to the narrow side 3 of the workpiece 1. The situation immediately after leaving this pressure zone is in Fig. 4 shown. Due to residual stresses in the edge band occurs in the edge regions in which the connection between edge band 2 and workpiece 1 is weakened by the described displacement of the adhesion-promoting material, to the failure of the connection, it creates a gap 9 due to the partial Replacement of the edge band 2 from the workpiece 1 in the edge region of the narrow side. 3

This can be counteracted with a profiling according to the invention 7 of the narrow side 3 of the workpiece 1. An exemplary profiling according to the invention is shown in FIG Fig. 5 shown.

The profiling 7 produced according to the invention on the narrow side 3 of the workpiece 1 jumps back relative to the middle region of the narrow side 10 of the narrow side 3. In Fig. 5 the profiling 7 is exemplified as a chamfer. However, there are also other geometric configurations, for example in the form of a rounding or a fold in question.

According to the profiling is dimensioned such that the distance A1 between a perpendicular to the surface 8 of the surface side of the workpiece 1, extending in the thickness direction Y of the workpiece 1 and the furthest projecting portion 10 of the narrow side 3 touching line on the one hand and the boundary formed by the profiling the surface of the surface side on the other hand, at most 0.1 mm and at least 0.01 mm, and / or that the profiling dimensioned such that the distance A2 between a extending in extension of the surface 8 of the surface side of the workpiece 1 straight line on the one hand and by On the other hand, the profiling of the most projecting region 10 of the narrow side 3 is at most 1 mm and at least 0.1 mm.

Der Winkel α beträgt bevorzugt zwischen 45° und 89°, weiter bevorzugt zwischen 78° und 85°.Preferably, the design of the profiling results in an angle α between the surface 8 of the surface side on the one hand and a reference plane E on the other hand. The reference plane E is determined by the boundary of the most projecting region 10 of the narrow side 3, which is formed by the profiling, on the one hand and by the boundary of the surface 8 of the surface side, which is formed by the profiling, on the other. It is understood that in curved progressions of the narrow side, for example, in rounded corners of the plate-shaped workpieces 1, the reference plane corresponding to the tangential plane to the above-described boundary lines, which in the case of a curved edge of course also curved in space, is. The angle α is preferably between 45 ° and 89 °, more preferably between 78 ° and 85 °.

In Fig. 6 For example, it is shown how the profiling 7 is mounted in a rounded corner region of a workpiece 1. Such a profiling can be advantageous if a satisfactory manufacturing quality can be achieved by conventional methods in the region of the straight edge courses, but in the region of the curved narrow side profile at the rounded corner of the workpiece 1, a conventional production of Schmalseitenkaschierung is problematic. In these cases, it may be the most cost-effective solution to provide the profiled elements 7 according to the invention specifically at the curved and thus critical regions of the narrow side and to provide the straight regions of the narrow side 3 at least essentially according to conventional methods.

In Fig. 7 is again schematically the inventive method for applying the edge band 2 shown on the workpiece 1. As in Fig. 7 to recognize the profiling 7 according to the invention at the critical point at the transition between edge band 2 and surface side basically creates a wider gap, as is the case with the conventional method. How out Fig. 8 However, it follows that due to the profiling 7 according to the invention no such sharp-edged corner region presses into the adhesive layer 5 and leads to a high degree, as is the case in the prior art, to a displacement of the adhesion-promoting material. This can then be during the in Fig. 9 shown pressing the wedge-shaped forming gap between the profiling 7 and the support layer 6 of the edge band 2 fill and so provide a complete connection at this point. The result is the in Fig. 10 schematically illustrated connection between edge band 2 and workpiece 1, in which the joint area 11 is filled by adhesion-promoting material, which is why the edge band no longer triggers the formation of an undesirable gap without intact adhesive bond from the workpiece 1.
