- A method of fabricating a book-like document of value and/or security document (1), in particular a passport-document, having

with at least the data pages (3) and the security laminate (4) being adhered to each other along the gutter edges or gutter folding edges, which are arranged parallel to each other in a stack, by means of an adhesive (5),

characterised in that in the area of the book spine, the front-side and rear-side bindings or book covers (2) are both adhered to the gutter edges or gutter folding edges of the security laminate (4) and of the data pages (3) by means of the adhesive (5) realised in the form of an elastomeric polymer (5). - The method as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the document of value and/or security document (1) has an RFID transponder unit, preferably according to document 9303, MRTD, issued by the ICAO, in particular in that the RFID transponder unit is integrated in the security laminate (4) and/or in the front-side or rear-side binding or book cover (2).
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 or 2, characterised in that the perforation holes (6) are created by means of a laser, in particular a short-pulse laser, in particular a CO2 laser, a UV laser or by means of some punching technique, or by means of a combination 25 of two or three of these methods.
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the perforation holes (6) have a diameter of between 50 µm and 1,000 µm, in particular between 100 µm and 800 µm, preferably between 200 and 600 µm, and/or in that the perforation holes (6) are conically shaped, with the maximum diameter and the minimum diameter lying within the aforementioned ranges.
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the elastomeric polymer (5) is a TPU or TPE (thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer) or a PUR-based or EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate)-based hot melt system, and/or in that the elastomeric polymer (5) has a hardness of between 20 and 70 Shore A, in particular a hardness of between 40 and 50 Shore A, and/or in that the front-side and rear-side book covers or bindings (2) are formed in a compressed manner in the area of the elastomeric polymer, the degree of compression being preferably between 10 % and 30 %, in particular more than 20 %, of the thickness of the binding or book cover (2).
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the interconnection of the gutter edges or gutter folding edges with each other and with the elastomeric polymer (5) is realised through moulding or spraying or dispensing or by thermoplastic injection moulding or by means of a reaction injection moulding (RIM) technique.
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the front-side and/or the rear-side binding(s) or book cover(s) (2) is/are formed in such a manner as to be transparent or translucent in its/their entirety or in sections thereof and optionally integrate(s) security features and in that the security laminate (4) contains a photograph of the passport holder which is visible through one, preferably the front-side, book cover or binding (2).
- The method of fabricating a book-like document of value as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the front-side and/or the rear-side book cover or binding (2) have/has a preferably flexible photovoltaic device which is electrically connected to the RFID transponder, and/or a display unit, in particular in the form of a bistable display or an OLED display, that is connected to said RFID transponder and/or to said photovoltaic device.
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that the front-side and/or the rear-side book cover or binding (2) have/has a recess in the form of a circular hole or of a defined, non-circular hole, or in the form of a lateral recess (10).
- The method of fabricating a book-like document of value (1) as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that the front-side and rear-side book covers or bindings (2) made of elastomeric polymer are created by means of insert moulding and in that at the same time the elastomeric polymer (5) is pressed, or injected, into the perforation holes (6) which have previously been formed in the data pages (3) and/or the security laminate (4), thus holding them together in the form of a booklet, and in that preferably- the book covers or bindings (2) have a thickness of between 0.5 and 1.2 mm, in particular a thickness of between 0.6 and 1.0 mm, and/or- in the fold region of the data pages and at the edge of the security laminate (4), the perforation holes (6) have a diameter of between 50 µm and 1,000 µm, in particular between 100 µm and 800 µm, preferably between 200 and 600 µm, and/or- in the inner fold region, a slip having a thickness in the range of the diameter of the perforation holes (6) and a length of preferably between 3 and 10 mm is formed by injection moulding, and in that the surfaces are preferably moulded into three-dimensional shapes and in that, in particular, an inscription is formed in a raised or recessed manner.
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10, characterised in that the front-side and rear-side book covers or bindings (2) are made of elastomeric polymer (5) by means of insert moulding 15 and in that preferably a graphically designed, thermoplastic foil is placed into the injection moulding tool (in-mould decoration).
- The method as claimed in claim 11, characterised in that the thermoplastic foil is formed of transparent polycarbonate and is preferably provided with graphical design on the inner surface.
- The method as claimed in claim 12, characterised in that the thermoplastic foil made of opaque polycarbonate including the graphical design is laminated together with a transparent overlay foil and is inserted into the tool with the surface having the overlay foil facing thereto, thus forming the outer surface of the book cover, the polycarbonate laminate having smaller dimensions as compared to the format of the book cover so that the elastomeric polymer (5) forms a margin on the book cover (2).
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 11 to 13, characterised in that the RFID transponder unit is integrated in the front-side or rear-side book cover or binding (2), preferably in a region made of thermoplastic elastomer (5), and in that the security laminate (4) is integrated in the front-side book cover or binding (2).
- The method as claimed in any one of claims 11 to 13, characterised in that a security laminate (4) including personalised or non-personalised holes is integrated in the front-side book cover or binding (2) made of elastomeric polymer (5), said elastomeric polymer (5) being injection moulded from the inner surface of the book cover or binding (2) in such a manner that it passes onto the outer surface thereof by penetrating through the holes formed in the security laminate (4), a lens-like, raised structure being created on the front-side book cover by the elastomeric polymer (5) passing through the holes in the security laminate (4).
