Definitions
- the present invention relates to a heat pump laundry dryer.
- the heat pump used for drying the laundry is composed of flow tubes through which the refrigerant circulates, a compressor that provides the circulation of the refrigerant by pressurizing it, an evaporator and a condenser, and the drying process is performed by passing the processing air over the laundry.
- the condenser located in the heat pump functions as a heater and the evaporator functions as a condenser.
- the processing air is heated while passing through the condenser, delivered onto the laundry as being heated and after dehumidifying the laundry, leaves its humidity while passing over the evaporator.
- various embodiments are performed in order to decrease energy consumption. For example, the compressor speed is decreased/increased, the operational parameters of the condenser and the evaporator, which are the other components of the heat pump, are changed; however, the desired improvement in the energy consumption cannot be attained.
- the aim of the present invention is the realization of a laundry dryer which comprises a heat pump and wherein energy is saved by decreasing the time of drying process.
- the laundry dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof comprises a drum, an air circulation duct and a heat pump composed of a compressor, an evaporator and a condenser, and the processing air that is dehumidified in the evaporator and heated in the condenser is sent onto the laundry in the drum through the air circulation duct by means of the processing air fan.
- the control unit regulating the drying processes stops the operation of the heat pump at the end of the drying process, but does not stop the operation of the processing air fan and the laundry in the drum is provided to be aired.
- dry air is received into the air circulation duct from the outer environment by means of an opening on the air circulation duct and a shutter that is opened/closed on the opening.
- the shutter is opened/closed on the opening by being actuated by a driving mechanism with a thermo-actuator, solenoid valve, electric motor, etc.
- the shutter is located at the upper side of the air circulation duct and opens towards the gap between the air circulation duct and the drum.
- the shutter is located at the lower side of the air circulation duct and opens towards the gap between the air circulation duct and the exterior body base.
- the environment air heated by the compressor is provided to be received into the air circulation duct.
- the laundry dryer comprises a cooling fan that provides the compressor to be cooled with the outer environment air.
- the environment air which cools the compressor by means of the cooling fan and hence which is heated, is guided to the air circulation duct by means of the shutter opening towards the gap wherein the compressor is situated.
- the driving mechanism actuates the shutter by means of a crank connected to the center of the shutter.
- a sealing element is placed onto the shutter or at the edges of the opening.
- the processing air fan is operated for some more time after the drying process is completed and thus, the laundry in the drum is aired and the temperature and humidity inside the drum are reduced.
- the operation time of the heat pump and hence the total drying time are shortened and energy saving is provided.
- Figure 1 - is the schematic view of a laundry dryer.
- PA Processing air providing the drying of the laundry

- a processing air fan (4) located in the air circulation duct (3)
- a heat pump (8) having a compressor (5) wherein the refrigerant cycle is realized and which provides
- the laundry dryer (1) of the present invention comprises a control unit (9) which continues the operation of the processing air fan (4) for some more time after stopping the operation of the heat pump (8) at the end of the drying process.
- the compressor (5) is stopped by the control unit (9) at the end of the drying process and therefore, the evaporator (6) and the condenser (7), to which the refrigerant is sent by the compressor (5), are also stopped.
- the processing air fan (4) is continued to be operated by the control unit (9) for some more time, for example for 5 – 10 minutes.
- the laundry in the drum (2) is aired, and the temperature and the amount of humidity inside the drum (2) are reduced.
- the laundry dryer (1) comprises an opening (16) arranged on the side wall of the air circulation duct (3) and a shutter (10) which is opened/closed on the opening (16), which is kept in the closed position and does not allow entry of air into the air circulation duct (3) from the outside while the heat pump (8) operates during the drying process and which allows suction of air into the air circulation duct (3) from the environment inside the body (15) by being brought to the open position after the operation of the heat pump (8) is stopped by the control unit (9).
- the shutter (10) When opened at the end of the drying process, the shutter (10) provides the dry and hot environment air inside the body (15) to be mixed with the processing air (PA) sent to the drum (2) by the processing air fan (4) in the air circulation duct (3) and the laundry drying efficiency of the processing air (PA), which passes through the evaporator (6) and the condenser (7) without the application of drying and heating processes, is increased.
